I will appreciate it big time. Need honest opinion because I am too close to my project and don't want to send in a manuscript that could have been ten times better.
Thank you so much to those of you that has grabbed this opportunity.

It's Christian here - just started reading SF again for the first time since I had acne and a flat stomach...
So far I've been enjoying quite a bit of "near" sci-fi: hanging out pretty much in the solar system, not too far into the future, and where everyone's still pretty much human or thereabouts. Have just finished Leviathan Wakes and I'm also enjoying Up Against It. I definitely like that fact that these are very recently written, so don't "feel dated" like some of the classics do.
Leviathan Wakes
Up Against It
Any recommendations, let me know! Thanks and best wishes.
Christian.
PS Have decided to try and be a little "creative" with my reviews. See what you think... :)

My name is Paul (although you can tell that by the title bar on my post!) and I joined GR back in December 2011. I've been a massive science fiction fan for as long as I can remember, always preferring stuff that manages to maintain plausible science and engineering.
I've been writing fiction for years as a hobby but only decided to get something properly finished and published after my brother bought me a Kindle last year. An amazing device, it really opened my eyes to the possibilities and practicality of ebooks. It was definitely the catalyst which made me get serious about writing scifi. Now I've got two books published and a third on the way. The first is already more popular than I dared hope, and the second is growing in popularity too.
I bet he never expected that when he bought me the Kindle!
Looking forward to being involved in this group.

I'm a new author, looking to build some name recognition and to stay in touch with what readers are talking about in my favorite genre (though I admit to tending to favor a blend of science fiction and fantasy). I've published two novels (the first with Double Dragon Press and the second self-published), and in the interest of encouraging people to spend their time with a writer they've never before heard of, I'm giving it away for FREE at smashwords. Please avail yourselves of it , and spread the word.
At my website www.ericdiehl.com there is a link to the ebook on Smashwords, and there you can view other samplings of my work, as well as reviews/interviews. Several of my short stories have been published in small press anthologies, I have two SFF novels published, and some of my RV and motorcycle articles have been published in national magazines.
Enjoy!

Last SciFi read was Wool Omnibus Edition and I liked it very much.

My name is Denique and I live on the wonderful isle of Portland on the south coast of England. I am 33 (not for much longer!) years old and work as a supervisor in a care home for the elderly.
My greatest obsessions are the search for sentient life somewhere "out there" and the possibility of time travel. I totally believe that both of these things are so much more than speculative fiction and cannot wait until all the non believers have to eat their words!! I just hope that it happens in my life time.
I have read many great Science fiction books and lots of theory based non-fiction, I just wish I paid more attention to Physics and mathematics when I was at school so that I could grasp the concepts better!
Gotta highly recommend James Jackson and his great first book "First Contact", totally looking forward to the next part of the tale!
Anyway, that's a bite sized snippet of me and my interests, nice to meet you guys!
:0)

I am Harrison Davies, author of the fantasy novel The Aduramis Chronicles: Destiny of the Wulf, the first of sixteen.
I hail originally from the cold North of England, Hartlepool, but now reside in Newcastle, just as cold, but a friendlier place to live. Here is one of my favourite views. http://www.goodreads.com/photo/author...
I have an African Grey parrot called Oliver, and a Staffordshire Bull Terrier called Patch, who sadly suffers from a dust mite allergy.
I've been with my partner now for eight years, and life is good.
I got my kindle in November before I finished my novel, and it has helped to ensure formatting is good. I do have my eye on the rumoured glow screen versions.
I do work at a normal day time job (boo) and write when I can. I am currently working hard on book two entitled Underworld, and I am excited about it. Bigger and better springs to mind.
I've recently had my first review started on Goodreads here, http://www.goodreads.com/review/show/..., and this makes me so happy.
I look forward to contributing and talking to everyone.
Feel free to add me as a friend, here, or on twitter, I am approachable and I don't bite...much!
Thanks for having me.
Harrison

I'm also author of The Weeping Empress. It's an epic fantasy. If interested you can download an epub here on Goodreads until the end of April.
I look forward to getting to know everyone. I can tell from all of the long, detailed intro posts before mine that this must be a fun group.

I am here to read some good books! I do not really have anything to say, so I will leave you to your forum browsing.
Cheers!
-Molly

My name is Rachel Hunter, and I am an author of fantasy. In fact, my first novel - "Empyreal Fate" - was published just this week on Amazon Kindle, and the print version is due for publication next month. As of now, I do not own a Kindle, but I certainly use the Kindle app quite a bit in order to delve into speculative fiction works at leisure. It's wonderful to meet you all!
Rachel~

Welcome aboard: there is no "acceptance" required -- signing up is all it takes, then it's up to you to join the fun. :-)

Anything by Heinlein, but especially his mid-period. He's good at plotting and character development. Sometimes misses the "B" story, but is spot on for the "A" part.
For Fantasy, McCaffrey is very good at developing the "A", "B", AND "C" stories. Start with her first book in the Pern (Dragonrider) series.
For general guidance, head on over to AKW Books' blog for authors (anyone can use it). Start here and branch out after you finish the series.

I’m Francesca from Italy.
I do love reading (science fiction, fantasy, weird, ect., but many other genres too, like poetry, literature, and so).
Hope to find people to talk about great books and fiction. :)

My reading preferences have expanded over the years, perhaps tracking career choices. At one time or another I've been a cell biologist, a phycologist (Spirogyra, Procloron), an oceanographer (light- and scanning electron-microscopy, photography, Antarctic diatoms, Eucampia), a clinical chemist (robot repairman), a histocompatability technologist (the Frankenstein business, epitope investigator at large), a reluctant hematologist (counting to 100 repeatedly, robot repairman), a microbiologist (normal flora detective, antibiotic resistance, vancomycin-resistant Enterococcus, virology, genomics, bioweaponry, West Nile Virus), a transfusion medicine technologist, a father (sub-roles too numerous to itemize), an appreciator of psychedelic and impressionist art, a Dylanologist, an aficionado of Frank Herbert, Ernest Hemingway, Herman Melville, Walt Whitman, Thomas Pynchon and James Joyce, and a life-long writer. Most of my professional training was at the University of Arizona in Tucson, where I presently blog compulsively about my most recent novel (American South, the blues, jazz, the Civil War, Civil Rights, New Orleans, Savannah, the Mississippi River basin, etc.).
Oh, I Kindle.
Did I mention I'm always eager to talk about Frank Herbert?

Welcome aboard. I, for one, am always willing to talk about Roger Zelazny (my all-time favorite author). :-)
Now if we could just get his estate or whoever owns his copyrights to get with the 21st century and publish his works as e-books. :-(

Looking forward to being a part of the group. One quick thing, I have noticed that now that I have my Kindle I am very reticent about buying / reading books that are not available electronically. If it's not on kindle - I either just totally stop considering it - or I throw it on one of my amazon lists - never to be looked at again. I loove books, own tons of them, always thought I would never buy an e-reader, and now that I have one - its hard for me to go back.

Aw hell no, I haven't recovered at all. I have no power over books. But the meds are nice. Anyway I'm the self-published author of EVEN THE DEAD DANCE TO LIVE, which is a near future action-fest in space, and that pretty much sums up the kind of SF books I'm looking for at the moment, so any recommendations are good.
Looking forward to the book discussion in June for 'Leviathan Wakes' as I actually have that one!
For my day job I'm a househusband in the UK with three children to chase around. I enjoy reading history, thrillers and crime as well as sci-fi, and I like to read more about characters than concepts. Can't be bothered with aliens though.
You can check out my work and blog either at my author site here, or at http://www.shakespeare-cruz.com/

My favorite author is Neil Gaiman. My favorite book is Never Let Me Go by Kazuo Ishiguro. I enjoy reading Brandon Sanderson, Isaac Asimov, Robin Mckinley, Robert Charles Wilson, Ursula K. LeGuin... The list goes on. I would like to read some more self-published authors in the future. Any suggestions?
Oh, and if this doesn't sound to crazy. I wish I was an Aes Sedai from the Wheel of Time series. Ah well, if only. :-)

My name is Robert. I have been a geek since the 70's, my mother has the photos to prove it, and love to read, write, watch and play anything Sci-Fi or Fantasy.
The first book I remember reading was 'And to Think That I Saw It on Mulberry Street'. It was the most wonderful thing I'd ever encountered up to that point in my life. There have since been many hundreds of other books of course, but that one has a special place for me because it gave me my love for reading.
In school I always had a book with me to read whenever I had a spare moment. I was one of those kids that loved to read the assigned books for book reports. I just didn't like to do the reports. I wanted the next book.
I discovered a passion for writing in the ninth grade thanks to Stephen King. I'm not sure why it took me so long to realize I wanted to write, or why Stephen King was the one who opened that part of my mind. All I know is I have written ever since. Nothing major, just scribbles and notes, ideas and stories that I enjoyed. Things that would play out like a movie in my head. I have recently decided I want to publish what I write. So now I'm putting the finishing touches on what will be my first published novel.
I look forward to reading and discussing the books with all of you.

I’m Athena from the Portland, Ore. area. Writer and reader, just a lover of stories, really.

Life isn’t easy when you’re more of a “real man” than your creator (I call him “the nerd” and other less complimentary names), so please have patience with me when I go a little over the edge (it’s actually thereputic for me). I’ll try not to do any physical harm to any of y’all around me when that happens.
I love science fiction and some fantasy, especially the old masters like Heinlein, Harrison, McCaffrey, and such. Once in a while, I discover a new talent who can hold my interest (like John Bowers and Hugh Howey), but it’s hard to beat the tried-and-true.

My wife Kate and I and our son Liam live in Fareham in the UK and when we're not being run ragged by a two year old and watching Waybuloo or the Night Garden, we're kicking back with a few beers and geeking out to Whedon or some other Sci-Fi brain candy. I'm quite into Jack Higgins and Mcnab, though Kate and I are both pretty big fans of Kelley Armstrong and seriously wish Hollywood would give "Bitten" the big screen treatment in the not too distant.
I've got a free promo running on Amazon this Saturday for my first novel, Ashen, Black Dawn, Book One. If anyone would like to check it out my links are below.

I have read so much Science Fiction and Fantasy. According to my goodreads shelves, I am split fairly evenly. At this point in my life, I find myself leaning toward fantasy. My tastes are hard to quantify, and I frequently find myself on a book hunt. Happily, I recently found the Michael J. Sullivan books and read those. Now, back to the grind.
Anne McCaffrey is she who began my love affair with the genre. I never cared for Tolkien or Lewis. (Am I banned now?) I read Jordan, Martin and Goodkind with the release of first books. I tired of the WoT before Jordan did. I simply could not take the death in Martin (I invest my heart in characters, to lose them is too much for me - especially if I am forced to wait YEARS before sequels) and Goodkind is, well, Goodkind. I found the first 3 books enjoyable, the next less so, and stopped reading in the last 3. At any rate, at this point, I prefer to start on completed series. (Patience is a virtue . . . )
Like others have said, I like to read ebooks. I read them mostly on my Android Tablet (and phone) using mostly the Nook app. If I can't find a book in an ebook, I won't read it. The library here is atrocious and I simply don't want to have to find a place for a DTE.
For me, I think Michael J. Sullivan is the perfect author. His books were light, but not fluffy, epic, but not too deep, and full of action, but not blood and gore. Mostly, unlike other series which really seem to bog down, the Riyria books felt as if there was a plan. When the story began, it had an ending. I think this best describes the types of books I enjoy.
I also recently enjoyed the Raine Benares series by Lisa Shearin. It is truly light and fluffy, but oh so much fun. And, non-stop action through almost all of the 6 books.
I do not care for Urban Fantasy. Some days I want to smash Stephenie Meyer and Charlaine Harris for the popularity of their vampires. (While I am truly thrilled for their successes . . .) And I do not care for the deaths of my beloved characters. (So, you can probably see why the book search begins to get old . . .)
I do not write anything other than terribly long introduction posts. I prefer to enjoy what others have labored over.
I look forward to suggestions and adventures.

I just wanted to say that your synopsis of the Riyria books was spot-on. I haven't read a really long epic fantasy series in a while, mostly because I get tired of the same story after 12,000 pages. But Sullivan kept me interested without having to learn a new language or keep track of 300 different characters. He put together just the right blend of everything, as you said.

I recently graduated from trade school where I studied electrical construction and technology though honestly, I don't really feel becoming an electrician is the route I really want to go. I'm kind of debating whether or not to go back to school for something computer-related since that's what I'm most passionate about.
I've loved reading since even before I could read on my own. I enjoy all genres of books. Some of my favourite authors are Steve Alten, Stephen King, Eric Nylund, James Patterson and Charlaine Harris.
I've always been a big geek. Video games, computers (technology in general), sci-fi.. I went to see Star Trek on opening night instead of going to my senior prom (twas a much more enjoyable evening). I've been writing for years, but unfortunately, I've only gotten around to completing one short story.

I love fantasy in film and life, but don't really read it and yet, I write what I ♥ and ♥ what I write. I just hope it's of interest to the sane.
I love characters to be shades of grey, rather than black and white. I love names of people and places to be memorable, rather than having to check back a couple of pages and spoil the flow of the book. I believe writers are smart and are difficult to fool, so I don't like keep secrets and yet, I like them to fathom the truth and not want them to believe its true.
I believe in books in all formats; I would love an agent, publishing contract and, paperbacks and hardbacks, but just can't afford to go down that route at present. I don't even own a Kindle/ereader! But I will take advantage of any opportunities to reveal my words to the blue-green world.
My first fantasy ebook was unleashed upon the world exactly a month ago and is currently hunting on the Amazons. Sorry in advance if it devours the other books! It's only on the Amazons at present and, after 3 weeks, the sales reached double figures, in 2 countries, so it's slow but sure progress, but FUN!

Mostly use the Kindle app on my Android tablet.

I write because I have these bloody stories in my head and they want out! My first book, Hammer of Amahte: Book One of the Triumvirate Trilogy was a blast to write, and I can't wait for my second one to come out (due later this year)

I'm a sci-fi author and just released my award-winning debut novel.

Perfection Unleashed
It's available on Kindle, unfortunately, not on Smashwords (I hope to participate in the Select program). If you really want to read this and you have a nook, just contact me. We'll figure something out. :-)
