Chris (dwarfsoft) | 6 comments Wow, so many published authors that I begin to feel a little unaccomplished ;). I should add then that I have written and been published in one chapter of Beginning Game Programming: A GameDev.net Collection.

I have aspirations for writing a novel and a technical book, but neither are on my agenda for 2012. I do hope the reading goal and this group will help me broaden my ideas before I sit down to write.

Cheers, Chris.

J.K. II (jkmillerii) Hi all! I'm J. K. Miller II! I'm an aspiring author (my first book is scheduled to be published in March 2012) and I love reading. Since I write Fantasy, I enjoy reading Fantasy the most. My ereader is a Kindle app on my iPhone (which I was in denial about spending money on until this Christmas season). Pleased to meet you all! :-)

I am dying to get mine published but as you know it is really difficult if you don't have previous publish experience. Congratulations on yours and hope we can share some recomendations in the near future.

My first novel is called Reborn and yes I do know the frustration of trying to get published. All I can say is keep up with it and get the Writer's Market 2012. They have publishers and agents that you can query. That's how I got mine. :-)

Adam Wasserman (keturion) | 2 comments Hi fellow readers of science fiction and fantasy!

I was born in the northeast of the United States and now I live in Amsterdam. My heart never really left the biggest, littlest state in the union, though. I find myself skipping back every summer for the food and the sun and the friends and family.

I work in an office, but enough said about that. I like to consider myself a writer, but enough said about that.

When I was a kid I read much more than I do now. Still, I alternate between reading ancient history (got to love those handy Loeb books that fit in one hand!) and science fiction. Philip K Dick is my favorite. After watching Stalker I got into the Strugatsky brothers as well. Man, it's hard to find their printed works in English!

I don't do eReaders. I prefer the old-fashioned paper and cover.

Anyway, hope this finds you well and thanks for having me.

Astrid (astridsilverleaf) Greetings!
I just got a fresh new Kindle from Amazon, my first experience with e-readers, and I'm just loving it! It was a little expensive, because I live in Brazil, and importation taxes here are somewhat outrageous...
Anyway, since I like reading books in English, Amazon was a good choice for me, and this way I have much better access to fantasy/scifi books :)
I'm currently into "A Song of Ice and Fire" series (George R. R. Martin), and after that I want to read William Gibson's books (for instance, "Neuromancer") with its cyberpunk theme.
Oh, and I'm currently in the middle of a masters program, I have a husband, no kids, I love video games and books, and it's getting harder and harder to find the necessary time to all of this!!!
Regards from Brasil!!

S.B. Davidson (sbdavidson) | 2 comments Hi everyone,
I'm S.B. and I'm from Oklahoma. I'm married with two kids and a cat who doesn't like me. My ereader is the Kindle app on my iPad.

I've been a voracious reader since I first discovered Encyclopedia Brown in grade school. I enjoy a wide range of books, but Fantasy is my genre of choice most of the time. I love getting lost in strange, wonderful worlds and spending time with rich characters. I love that the genre has no limitations, allowing authors to explore the story they have to tell by any means they can dream up.

I work as a counselor at a youth and family service. I enjoy being able to help youths work through the tough times they're experiencing. I got into my fair share of trouble in my teens, so I think it helps that I can draw from my own background. In my spare time (which there's never enough of), I write Fantasy. I have published one novel through Kindle Direct Publishing.

I'm glad I found this community. I love talking about SciFi and Fantasy, and am always looking for new recommendations. Nice to meet you all.

Royal Blood Chronicles six book series is about a Royal Blooded race of vampire. And my new series Phantom Lives is a magical series about past life experience. Strong female characters are a signature of my books and I love all mystical creatures. So if you like the paranormal, romance, action/adventure and magic. I think you will like my books.

D.J. Butler (djbutler) | 7 comments Hi

My name's Dave. I'm a husband, father, lawyer, guitar player, song-writer, gamer, home recorder and, above all, geek. I live in Idaho.

I'm also a novelist. I've loved fantasy and sci-fi since I read Tolkien and Asimov in the second grade, and that's what I write. I'm working on getting into print (boo, hiss!), but I am, under the name D.J. Butler, author of the exclusively ebook pulp action-horror-fantasy serial Rock Band Fights Evil (available through Amazon and Smashwords).

Thank you.

Elliott Kay (elliottkay) Hi! I'm Elliott Kay. I'm a geek, a Seattleite, a former Coast Guardsman, and an amateur writer. So far I have one self-published steamy and funny urban fantasy to my name, but I'm working on other stuff I hope to sell to mainstream publishers. (We can talk about why I chose to self-pub the first one, but really, I have ambitions in both directions regarding publication.)

Admittedly, I first discovered this site while looking for ways to promote my book, but now I'm here simply because I love books myself. I enjoy high/epic fantasy, sci-fi, historical nonfiction and roleplaying games. I'm the sort of Marvel True Believer who can't stand the current state of comics (maybe the less said about that, the better), and I love to geek out about...well...all things geeky!

My book is here--I have several review comments on the Amazon & Smashwords pages. If you like urban fantasy (and can stand seeing vampires get humiliated), give it a look!

Good Intentions

Alexandra | 2 comments Hi, I'm Sandra calling from the Gold Coast, Australia. Supposedly sunny all the time but currently very, very wet. All the better to read though :)
I'm a mother of three almost grown up girls and two cats (well the cats think I'm their mother) a full-time multimedia teacher and all round bookaholic.
I'm particularly fond of fantasy, sci-fi, and of late, regency romances... - I know I can't see the link either but there you go, I think it may be due to the lovely use of language -
After receiving a Kindle ebook reader for Christmas last year I've become almost totally digital, it takes some of the financial pain away as well as the guilt about using up natural resources. Being a voracious reader it means that now I can indulge myself rather than eek out the contents of my library until the next pay day.
It's great to see other idealistic and enthusiastic readers out there too!
Does anyone else re-read their favourite series' on a regular basis? If so which is/are you favourite(s)?

Hi Kenny, I have re-read a good percentage of my library and some several times. Oddly each time I read the books I see something else in the story that I missed the first time or some subtle nuance that changes the tone, always worth the time invested.
Having said that, I read a lot of new books and am always interested in finding new authors and opening my comfort zone a little wider.
I had a huge shock recently when I asked colleagues what books they read... several admitted cheerfully that they hadn't read a book in 10 years and most didn't read for pleasure at all. Stunned was an understatement, I couldn't imagine my life without books.
What do people that don't read do instead?

Yes, always have. My bookshelves are for the books I want to keep and re-read, I have some books that I've had for nearly 50 years and still re-read. Some of my preferences have changed over the years, but I still have favorites from years ago, including genres I no longer read ... period romances by Georgette Heyer, westerns by Louis L'Amour, gothic romances by Barbara Michaels.

Cloey.k (cloeyk) | 14 comments Hello, my name is Cloey and I am a bookaholic. I have been hooked on my Nook since the First Edition and now my addiction has escalated to the Nook Tablet with a library of over 300 books including my side loaded books. I know, all those books and so little time to read but my paper library had 100 less books before I gave them away in order to use the room as my new ghetto fabulous walk in closet (for those who don't know - it is a room with temporary plastic shelves awaiting the permanent ones for the past 2 years). My son gave me my first Nook as a gift when I was going through my book withdrawals.

@Elliott your book seems very interesting I added it to my TBR list.

Laura Hart (lobopub) | 12 comments Hi All,
I am new to Goodreads and liking what I see. Little wonder it is the most talked about bookworm site. I am a debut fantasy fiction authoress of The Toy Sorcerer YA/Adult - only just posted here. I've published with Amazon and Smashwords for all e-book formats. I, like most of us, was reluctant to go the e-reader way until I bought a kindle. I became a convert immediately - you can actually have a drink or eat a biscuit without the book shutting round your thumb!

As I've only just published - prior to marketing, which apparently was a HUGE newbie mistake - I'm asking for reviews. I've had three tremendous critiques so far, which are invaluable as I write the second of the series.
I would like to invite you to join me as a friend and I will be glad to e-mail you all an e-pub in any format you choose. I'm hungry for feedback, so if you're hungry for material - please get in touch.

I have regularly re-read Tolkien all my life. In the last several years, I have also re-read large chunks of my childhood reading, and it has been interesting to see what really was as good as I remembered it (Robert E. Howard, Edgar Rice Burroughs, the first Dune books, Fritz Leiber, Elric) and what turned out to be not so awesome (erm, some others).

Stephen Gibson (dungeontiger) | 2 comments Hello all!

I'm Stephen and I live near Ottawa, Canada. I sometimes go by the moniker 'DungeonTiger' (long story to that name).

I love both good fantasy and science fiction though it seems hard to find sometimes.

For that reason (hard to find good stuff), my brother and I have decided to co-author a number of books. The first of which is call "Sea of Dekatos". It is available in both printed and Kindle versions. Both are available from Amazon. However, if you are willing to pay for the shipping contact me directly and I will send you a signed personalized copy and a poster.

You can follow my blog at www.kingtigerbooks.com

We aim to create unique original worlds. Our stuff is unlike anything else you have read before, at least in my opinion. I know many people prefer traditional fantasy with dwarves and horses and such, but we are a little bored of that.

I'd love to know what you guys think. I'd like to connect with other authors and readers. Please stay in touch!

BTW, on my blog, (www.kingtigerbooks.com) I have declared 2012 the Year of Adventure. I encourage everyone to do the same. Let's make it happen!

Stephen.

My name is Jeff and I'm a sci-fi, fantasy author who finally got around to joining this amazing website! I can't wait to get more involved with it and with the people here!

I'm always looking to discover new work and new writers to share my passion with. I'm primarily sci-fi, fantasy but I like reading anything with intriguing, complex characters.

I have one book on here right now, The End Begins: The Nine, but a few more will be coming over the next year. Current book can be found here:

Colin Tate (colintate) | 2 comments Hiya one and all - I've been a member of this group for a wee while, but I haven't introduced myself properly.

My name is Colin Tate, and I'm an avid reader - Fantasy, Science Fiction (and all the shades between), as well as non-fiction.

I'm also a writer (like quite a few of us, it seems), and I am currently working on a novel that I hope to complete and have professionally edited/self-published (or touted around to various houses - still up in the air on that one), by the year end.

And with that, back to reading!

Joanna Gawn (lazuliportals) Hi, I'm new to Groups and just dipping a toe in the water! My name's Jo and I'm an avid reader (obviously) and newbie author. With my co-author, I write spiritual fantasy/adventure novels (definitely cross-genre!)

I'm also a Reiki (energy-healing) practitioner when I'm not reading, writing, or reading about writing/publishing, so I spend a lot of time in my head lol.

Hoping I can find some time tomorrow to catch up with the Groups I've joined tonight, and give something back! ;-)

Edited to add: Our giveaway closes 31 Jan so I'm just adding
