hi Isabella
Pleased to meet you, I think writing fantasy stories free to expression

COULDN'T AGREE MORE

Always interesting to meet another KY resident. I moved to KY 12 years ago, after living most of my life in MT and WY, with side trips to southern Nevada and Madrid, Spain.
The thing I notice about Kentucky, after nearly 60 years in more or less dry climates is the RAIN!

I'm about 60 miles south of Lexington and we didn't get as much snow as the northern or eastern areas did, but then being from MT where we talk about snow in feet instead of inches, I find the snow here pretty much a joke.
However, I'm sure that it was Murphy that did the rain this year, he's been after me and anytime the amount of rain in one year is higher than I am tall, that is too much rain for a dry-lander to deal with.
Hmmm ... I wonder if that would fit in a fantasy book somewhere ... someone cursed to be rained on no matter where they went to live?

Whew! That's a load off my chest.
I live in Los Angeles spending more time in traffic than I ever spent writing.
Oh yeah, I write, too.
I spent several years writing and shopping full feature spec scripts and got tired of dealing with the fickles of Hollywood, so I switched to writing books.
I just finished a new (first) book and published it on Amazon. It's a very exciting time.
As a reader I'm a fan of several types of books. My entry into fantasy - SciFi was Edgar Rice Burroughs. I devoured his stories and read just about everything I could find of his. I mostly read fantasy and currently enjoy alternate history, such as Anderson Taylors Destroyermen series. In a while my tastes will change again and I'll move on to who-knows-what.
When the weather is good I like to ride my motorcycle exploring back roads to see where they lead.
Nice to meet everyone and I look forward to joining in on some interesting posts.

Okay, I swore I was NOT going to download anymore until I caught up, but the word "warhorse" ... well, horse ... is like waving an open bottle under the nose of an alcoholic.

Thank you for asking. Yes, it's currently only on Kindle, but I'm publishing on Nook this weekend. I'd be happy to drop you a note to know when it's done if you're interested.

Regards, Greig (www.greigbeck.com)

Admittedly there's not an awful lot going on in that genre now that Mr. Crichton has passed on, which is why I decided to write my own book, PERIGEE. http://www.amazon.com/Perigee-ebook/d...
But I'm not here just to hawk my wares. I'm desperate for more of this type and hope you all can lead me to more.
Thanks for reading!

Hi Jody, I am Isabella and welcome to this group. I love fantasy and am waiting patiently for my kindle. Can't wait though. You only read Sci-fy

Ah, I've found your weakness. Mu-hahaha (insert classic rubbing hands together in villainous mirth)
First of all, let me say how awesome the vintage Disneyland People Mover pic is! I used to work at WDW and still visit every year, so that made my day.
I'm Heidi and I fell in love with my Kindle late last year. Just got a pretty green cover (with a built-in light) for it today.
Plus I love SF/Fantasy...so this seemed like a perfect group for me.

Hello everyone!

I was glad to see you realize that every hero needs a warhorse! But there aren't many authors who manage to really get horses right, so be warned!
However, I think it is more addiction than weakness but really, what can you expect of someone whose first memory (at somewhere around 3 years of age) was of being lifted to the back of a horse and who is still raising horses as an aging senior citizen?

I have to tell you that I recently discovered that the copy on Amazon was the victim of Dropbox. Meaning that my 'gold' copy was overwritten by a draft copy.
I'm in the process of having my editor clean it up and will be uploading a proper copy this weekend.
If you can't wait and buy it before this happens please let me know your email address and I'll send you a free clean copy.
As for horses, this horse is not a dumb animal. He's a Hero's horse and has character. Plus the main character and him are true friends. But, he's also a supporting role so please don't expect him to steal the show.

Hey Jeffery! Great to see you here!

Interesting 25! :) I'm with ya on 22!

I can live with that. He doesn't have to be like the "Companions" in the Valdemar books or Valadan in the Warhorse of Esdragon series ... I can live with a warhorse like the horses in Robin McKinley's "Blue Sword".
I can wait until next week, I'm already complaining about my TBR virtual stack so will just plan on next week.

Always glad to welcome another member in my 'age group' and also another 'westerner'. Though I live in KY now, I'm a MT native and spent many weekends in Colorado at dog, horse and art shows.
The photography and artwork on your website is splendid, BTW ...

Thanks for the welcome!

I found some gems that I'll be happy to recommend, and some not worth mentioning at all. I think it was the latter, more than the former, that convinced me to write my novel. After paying for an eBook that was simply horrible, I decided that I could write one that was much better.
Perhaps the best way to introduce myself is to offer you all a FREE copy of Voyage of the Dead - Introductory First Look. It is FREE today (1/21) only on Amazon. I hope you enjoy the 30,000 word cliffhanging introductory edition. If so, the full version is also available for sale at http://www.amazon.com/Voyage-Dead-Sov...
I look forward to discussing all types of sci-fi and fantasy with all of you.

"Pellucidar is but a realm of your imagination - nothing more." I love Burroughs! Everyone remembers him for Tarzan, but Pellucidar and Carter of Mars were mind blowing.

Hi, I'm Stewart Prince. My home is near Oxford, England, though I'm now in South Africa for a while. I'm delighted to discover a group devoted to my favourite genre!
I've been sold on sci-fi and fantasy ever since I read Asimov and Tolkien. I read really fast, so I have a huge collection of print books; but I'm delighted, like Alberto, that I can now carry hundreds with me in one simple e-device.
Mine is an iPad, though: I need colour, even if the text is monochrome. I got on the bandwagon just a little too early for Kindle Fire! The only problem I find with the iBooks reader on the iPad is that the dictionary seems a little more limited than the Kindle one.
Otherwise, my job is to prepare print books for publication (though using electronic means!). So I do find myself rather critical of the layout and formatting errors I find in some ebooks. (In one that I read recently, I found a new chapter heading at the bottom of the page!)
That aside, ebooks are great. I wouldn't like to see print books disappear altogether though (or I'd be out of a job!). There's still something special about holding a well-produced volume in your hands and turning the pages physically. And I still find myself reaching for a physical bookmark when I put my iPad down after reading in bed!
Anyway, I'm glad to be part of this group, and look forward to sharing ideas and discovering more fantastic fantasy and scintillating science-fiction!

I started reading SF etc about 1959 and started with Tom Swift (son of the original TS from the 30's) and haven't stopped. I thought I would die of ecstacy in HS when I was "required" to read (OK, for me, REread) "Methuselah's Children" for English class.
I take it as a personal affront when my favorite authors write slower than I read, but that does lead me to investigate other authors. When I run across a series, I TRY to start with the 1st book (not always possible) and if I like it, I go nuts trying to acquire the rest of the series immediately (ebooks will help with that immensely).
I can be quite opinionated, but I do try to keep it civil when I disagree with someone (I know - board requirement - raspberries).
Yeah, actually I can sympathise with that. When I prepare a book for publication it has a single, fixed type size for the main body of text. But digital books allow the reader to freely change the body text size—something that would force me to re-do the whole book in print publishing! I'm sure that's how errors like the chapter beginning at the bottom of a page come about…

Aside from backup problems writers should also be aware of when you're importing your work from another writing program. It can carry with it hidden formatting that'll cause you countless headaches.
I speak from experience. Long. Frustrating. Experience.
I only use Scrivener now and other than learning the compile feature it's a great program for me.

SciFi and fantasy are 2 of my 3 favorite genres (horror being the 3rd). I love all types of both genres, but tend to shy away a little bit from space operas. That doesn't mean I'll pass up a good one, though! :) In my combined physical, ebook, and audiobook library of 1300-1400 books, probably about 60% is scifi and fantasy.
I look forward to getting to know the members here and and being a part of this group.

Okay, you can now send me Sho. Just let me know what transporter you've booked him with and when they will arrive!

As luck would have it, he's available now although transporter technology still eludes me I have devised another method sans the glamour whooshing sounds and blue sparkly lights.

But if I can't have the sparkly blue lights, can I hope for more adventures soon?

But if I can't have the sparkly blue lights, can I hope for more adventures soon?"
Although I don't recommend it you could hyperventilate then jump up and down. You'll get all kinds of fireworks going off.
What can I say. I'm just helpful that way.
And yes, lots of adventure. This weekend the story line for the next in the series began to fill in really well. I'm excited to see it all come together.

I'm also the author of a dystopian novel called Ephemera. It is priced very reasonably on Kindle. Hopefully, once we get to know each other some of you will be interested in giving it a try. www.theephemera.com

I'm also a gay geek. I'm interested in all kinds of genres but I do tend to drift towards SF, fantasy, and horror. Of late, I've been focusing a little more on fantasy but that varies.
So far as my day job, I'm a museum curator. That means a number of different things, from public speaking to research to creating exhibits. I'm also a fantasy author myself (my first book was recently published) but in the interest of not spamming, I'll let all of you discover it for yourself. :)
My interests include lampworking (making glass beads), hanging out with my three kids (Amaranth, Nynaeve, and Oisin--geek mom, obvs), reading, and heading off to the woods when I can. Oh, and museums, of course, though I don't get to them as often as I'd like.
I love to chat and am going to crack open Leviathan this week so I look forward to meeting all of you and having great discussions!
