Introduce Yourself

I have an eclectic reading taste - all genres as long as the are well-written, interesting, and thought-provoking.
My favorite science fiction and fantasy authors include Isaac Asimov, Ray Bradbury, Arthur C. Clark, Robert Heinlein, Christopher Priest, J.K Rowling, and J.R.R. Tolkien. (Listed in alphabetical order.)
I look forward to becoming acquainted and sharing opinions with all of you.

I'm retired and so I finally have a chance to read all of those SF and fantasy books that I missed out on while working. I also enjoy horror and military fiction, especially anything with airplanes.
I started reading e-books with the Kindle 2nd generation, and now have a Touch and Fire.
I've also written one satanic/techno-thriller e-book with a friend, and am currently writing a hard SF e-book taking place on and near Mars.
My favorite SF series are from Asimov (multiple) and John Carter of Mars by ERB, and fantasy series Thomas Covenant the Unbeliever, Eragon and Lord of the Rings.

I am a new author. I spent way too long in property management but evicting people was killing my bleeding heart liberal soul. I am married with two kiddos. One of my kids is on the autism spectrum but my Star Trek and Star Wars knowledge skills were established before his obsession. Although his SW knowledge is seriously impressive.
I married a rock star who has become a computer geek. He still plays out and Music it a major investment in our home.
I love good banter. I love a good cause. I have even taken my kids out "Trick or voting" When we needed to canvas I allowed them to wear their Halloween costumes to make it fun. That was extra fun when we were in MD knocking on doors for question 6.
I love my kindle and I have to say that I am a book listener a good bit of the time. That way I can get my story fix and still get my life stuff accomplished.
That's me in a nut shell.
Kerry

Thanks! My book is Paranormal, YA , Humor. Called "Over Cast" It is a departure from what you said was your favorite style but I hope you give it a chance. I am not sure of your age group but if you like that kind of writing and can go a bit more adult Iiona Andrews has two series I really liked. Karen Marie Moning has a good one Fever/Iced. (The highlander series was a little too smut heavy for me. But some people dig that so...) Faith Hunter's Jane Yellowrock series is fantastic. (Although human world based with paranormal characters, again more adult)
D. D. Barant has a alternate world series which is good. Julie Kagawa "Iron King" is another good one and more YA. (Faery World stuff)There are some steampunk books that are pretty good too.
Thanks,
Kerry

I'll see those other books you mentioned as well.. oh well, I'm just 25, and I loved classic, Gothic, epic, mystery/thriller and some and sci-fi/fantasy coz it always fascinates me..

"Soulless" by Gail Carriger might be a fun read for you too. And if you like the humor side of Fantasy try Molly Harper's books they are really fun. Start with the "Nice Girl's don't..." Series.

A book such as 'She' or even 'She and Allan' can qualify as Fantasy in my system of things. I suppose I favour character-heavy stories, but the tale has to get a move on, too.
Looking forward to sharing likes and dislikes with members.

ok I'll try that K.W. thanks for the suggestions.. I wish I have all the time in the world, just to sit and to read..

My name's Ben and I'm a high school teacher, reader, writer and editor from Victoria, Australia. I've been in a science fiction/fantasy writing group for the past five years and in that time I've delved in to a range of books, although hard science fiction is still a step too far.
I prefer urban fantasy/superhero novels, new weird (China Mieville et al), and a smattering of fantasy. I've enjoyed a few of Ian M. Bank's science fiction (Transition being my favourite).
Here to encourage myself further into the genre!
Cheers,
Ben

My name is Michael John Olson. I'm a former commercial diver living in South Florida with my wife and two children.
I now write Science Fiction and Fantasy novels. I just put my first book up for sale on both Kindle and Create Space.
I must admit there was a lot of anxiety and hand wringing about whether or not to go traditional or straight into independent publishing, but after reading endless horror stories about doing business with the big houses, I knew my path was clear.
My influences run the gamut from Orson Scott Card to James Clavell.
My style of writing leans toward a mix of superheroes set in the deep future with a space opera in the background.
Glad to have found Goodreads, and looking forward to meeting new people and making friends.
Best Regards to all,
Michael

Great to hear you're writing. I'm going to go check it out.
Edit: Actually, could you provide a link? Can't find it on Amazon.

My name is Dave and I'm an ebook reader. I'm also a writer, but I'm a long-term convert to ebooks and as I've gotten older it's just become more pronounced.
I can't read paperbacks anymore. The small print and gutters make me weep with despair, making them even harder to read. Luckily, I have a Kindle to save me.

Welcome to the group, Dave.
I've read a number of your posts in other groups. They are usually informative and entertaining.

I'm Bentley. I'm 24, I live in New England where I work in an office setting in a basic administrative position while I'm also going back to college to further my education. I made a horrible discovery last year where I only read a handful of books for pleasure, so I've recommitted myself to reading and writing this year and I've set a goal to read 25 books in my free time over the course of this year.
I'm beginning to see that I might have been a bit to lenient on myself as I've already read 10 books this year! I'm hoping this group can introduce me to other people who are as interested in reading as I am!

Welcome to the group. I'm glad that you have found time to experience the joy of reading once again.
You would be surprised at what potential future a basic administrative position might have in store for you.

You're in the right place Bently..

My internet name is Charlotte (long story, you can ask if you'd really like to know), I'm 22 from the East coast (of the US), and I've been an avid reader since the age of 2!
I recently graduated college and was thrown into the real world and a real 9-5 job, so now that I commute on public transportation every day, I get to read a lot. To be honest, I prefer the experience of reading physical books over ebooks, but that being said, I have almost 3000 books in my Kindle library, and cannot wait to read all of them!
I am a nerd at heart and I love fantasy, sci-fi, and historical fiction genres. I have also been trying to catch up on classics that I've never read (Pride and Prejudice, 1984, Wuthering Heights).
Finally, I am just looking for a group of people I can bond with and not have to worry about societal norms (I am a very socially awkward, anxiety-filled individual).
Hope I will be able to give insightful input to this group!

Glad to be a part of this group!

Welcome Domino, nice to know some indie author like you.. I like that intrinsic motivation, though it seems disturbing yet it really dig deep within so I like that part in every novel, coz it makes me connect to the characters.

I am actually. I have a whole stack of books in my room that I want to get through before my next B&N order comes in (which probably won't happen since it's supposed to ship in 3 days), and I started with the book Mirror Mirror by Gregory Maguire. It's a pretty good twist on the Snow White story.

Noticed my website address was corrupted by the word 'and' so here it is again - www.grahamjwood.com
I will take a look at Mirror Mirror.
Cheers

So far my to read list is:
1. Perdido Street Station (about half way through)
2. Hunger Games
3. Foundation (at least that's the forerunner at the moment, but I'm a little ADD so it might change)
Anyway, it's great to meet you all. See you around!

I'm glad to have discovered this group. I was a fact checking, mostly unbiased journalist for 25 years, bound to write well balanced articles.
Now I write sic-fi (what fun...feel like a filly let out to a large green pasture) and would love to find some readers to review my new book
which is offered up for some reviewing on the DYSTOPIA LAND site here on GOODREADS.
My name is Christine E. Mackenzie

My name is Angélique and I'm rather new on Goodreads. I was born in France and moved to Ontario, Canada, a few years ago. I was introduced to Sci-Fi by my father when I was small and it has been my favourite literature genre since then.
I read all kind of books, but I particularly like novels which make me think. My last favourite reading were "Mockingbird" by Walter Tevis (Sci-Fi) and "The Guilty One" by Lisa Ballantyne (Fiction, about murder perpetuated by children).
I wanted to join a Science-Fiction group to get reading suggestions from other people and hopefully make some friends. I particularly like to read books from different culture (I read in French and English, so anything in or translated into one of these language will be ok!).
I won't make it for "Stand on Zanzibar" since I'm deep into "It" by Stephen King right now, but I'm planning on joining you for the next one "All the Windwracked Stars" !
I used to read on the iRex's Iliad e-reader (it's from Europe I think). Last year I got a Kobo here in Canada (so much lighter!).
I also collect the "SF Masterworks" series, the black edition with a number for each book.
Well, that's about it. I have two cats, and it's snowing.
See you!

I work as an author and journalist, and two of my fantasy novels (The Call of Agon and The Road to Rebirth) have been published so far.
I read a wide range of genres, but speculative fiction will always be my favourite. Some might even say I like things that are unusual ;)
I look forward to getting to know you all better :)
