@Zechariah: Woah, that's awesome!!

@Johanna: It's a little different in different states. The libraries in Pennsylvania are split up by county. All the libraries in one county (expect for those that decide to be independent for varying stupid reasons) are connected. I can order a book from any library in the county and have it sent to my local library. I can also do what is called Inter Library Loan or ILL, where I can request a book from anywhere in the state. Reasons I don't do that often are it takes longer to receive the book, you can have it for a shorter period of time, renewing is trickier, you cannot get new books that way, and it costs the library more money. So I just get memberships in different counties because it's less hassle.

There's only one library in my town atm, so I can only get books from that one! And when I order books, it'll usually take them about six months or they just won't get it at all... Which is disappointing. I get it, though. We only have two stories and our shelves are pretty full already. Every time we buy a new book, we have to get rid of an old one.

This is fascinating. We should have a topic just for discussing library systems.

That makes sense, Rivka. That's probably the equivalent of what we have here. Smaller towns are probably worse off.

message 27854: by Rebecca (new)

Rebecca | 3428 comments A topic on that would be fun! This is all so interesting :)

Yeah, I kinda feel bad for small libraries sometimes

Dakota Stein (droelofs001) I just love libraries in general expect for when you really want to read a book and your put on hold but thats just how it goes because everybody else wants to read the book as well so in the end I guess it is worth it

lorien ‧͙⁺˚*・༓ଳ It is. But when you have to wait two months because twenty-five people put a hold on that particular book, it's a bit funny actually. Patience is key in those situations. ; )

message 27858: by Dakota (new)

Dakota Stein (droelofs001) oh I know I have been waiting patiently for this book to come in I am sure this book will not disappoint and will be worth the wait but the good news is that I am 10 out of 19 holds it beats being 17 out of 22

Yes, definitely.
It's terribly annoying when you have to get up the next morning, though, and can't read so late.

message 27866: by [deleted user] (new)

lorien ‧͙⁺˚*・༓ଳ I try to not read late at night because I've noticed that I have huge circles underneath my eyes. I could be over exaggerating, but still . . .

message 27882: by Rebecca (new)

Rebecca | 3428 comments You are welcome to jump in now. What is your library like?

message 27883: by Briana (new)

Briana (brianals) | 15203 comments Mod
From what I read it's kinda like yours in the fact that VA's library systems are divided into counties, and I can put a hold on a book and get it shipped from any library in my library system to my main library. They do also have the inter library loan but I've never used it. You can request books for them to buy, but it'll either take a while for them to do it, or they may never do it. I don't think I had to pay for my library card when I got it, but if you lose your library card, you have to pay to replace it (which one of my sisters did have to do because I accidentally lost it when I had it one time cause I was picking her hold up at the library cause I was going to pick mine up and why take an extra trip). And I have no idea what y'all are talking about with this whole "renewing your library card" thing cause I don't think I have to????? And you can always just edit your information on the website. With ours you just have to use it. If you don't use your library card for a certain amount of time (which I don't know the length) your library card doesn't work anymore and you can get a new one free of charge. I think I can also get library cards in some surrounding counties even though I don't live in them, but I see no reason to cause the libraries are farther away and it would just be a hassle. There are (I think) three libraries that I can get to in a 20 minute radius. There is one a little further down the highway, but I'm not sure how long it takes to get there. And then there's one on the way to church. But I mostly just go to the one 5 minutes (if traffics good cause highway and it's all right turns) away

message 27884: by Dakota (new)

Dakota Stein (droelofs001) If we are still talking about library's this is my local library and the one I am usually always at. I love it they have a great selection of books and a nice area for teens over by the windows and part of the children's area also by the window which overlooks the garden and outside reading area it is pretty.

feel free to follow link to learn more I guess

Abby Elizabeth | 4157 comments Buuut it's a more muted red. Not overtly red like a Weasley.

Woooow awesome! I've only dyed my hair once...and it was dip dyed with Kool-Aid. :P
