message 26355: by Abby Elizabeth (new)

Abby Elizabeth | 4157 comments @Briana I'm on chapter 7.

@Rebecca It is totally not overrated for feminine party-loving romanticist extroverts like moi. :P

message 26361: by Abby Elizabeth (new)

Abby Elizabeth | 4157 comments Pretty good. I've had a half good/half bad day. Today was a my dad's first day on the day shift! It was weeeeeiiird. And on the way home from the gym I saw a double rainbow at the same time as the beautiful sunset. That was cool. How are you?

I'd kind of like a prom, at least in grade twelve... To dress up and wear a fancy dress and dance and stuff
Alas, 'tis not to be...

I was just kinda moody yesterday sooo yeah.
Cool! Ooo what did you get?

message 26369: by Zechariah (new)

Zechariah (zechbarrett) | 2992 comments Alien theme music, Angelina? What's the occasion? :P

@Abby: Gotcha.
I believe it was 117. :)

message 26371: by Abby Elizabeth (new)

Abby Elizabeth | 4157 comments Does there need to be an occasion for alien music?

117 out of 100?! Awesome. 0.0

message 26372: by Zechariah (new)

Zechariah (zechbarrett) | 2992 comments I suppose not XD

Yup! I thank God :D

message 26373: by Abby Elizabeth (new)

Abby Elizabeth | 4157 comments XD

That's really awesome! Extra credit is such a great tool for motivation, I think. (Although if it were up to me I'd do away with the whole grading system the way it is now.)

message 26374: by Zechariah (new)

Zechariah (zechbarrett) | 2992 comments Thanks! I agree.
There are many aspects of the education system that are inefficient.

message 26375: by Abby Elizabeth (new)

Abby Elizabeth | 4157 comments If I had my way there wouldn't be public schools (no government involvement in education anyway.) The evaluation of a student would be reformed (different grading/testing system) and more emphasis would be put on cultivating a student's strengths (so for a student like me there would be more emphasis on the writing and less on the math/science, which is what I do anyway) and actually preparing them for the real world.

message 26376: by Zechariah (new)

Zechariah (zechbarrett) | 2992 comments That sounds great. :) Although I'd say all practical math and science should still be taught (which I imagine you're not arguing against). Just certain things like calculus, trigonometry, physics, etc. needn't be required unless that's the students' focus. Kinda going to back to the apprentice approach. Specializing.

message 26377: by Rebecca (new)

Rebecca | 3428 comments Yes! And focus on the students actual understanding and real world application rather than just test taking ability.

Ya know what I struggles with the most in Cost Acct? The classroom stuff that the teacher even admitted we would never use again. :/

message 26378: by Abby Elizabeth (new)

Abby Elizabeth | 4157 comments Yeahhh it's really dumb. I dream of a world where the education system makes sense but I'm not going to see it in my life time. :P

message 26379: by Zechariah (new)

Zechariah (zechbarrett) | 2992 comments Hey, it could be reformed in this generation.

Ahh, yes, cost accounting. My professor often skims over or skips content that won't be used again.

message 26380: by Rebecca (new)

Rebecca | 3428 comments Yeah, you could start the reformation, Abby!

Why can't there be professors like that everywhere?

message 26381: by Abby Elizabeth (new)

Abby Elizabeth | 4157 comments I have been told I should run for Congress and/or President...who knows ;P

I can't wait for college. I'll be that weird kid who is friends with all the professors. :P

message 26382: by Zechariah (new)

Zechariah (zechbarrett) | 2992 comments :P

@Rebecca: I knowww. I'm grateful.

message 26383: by Abby Elizabeth (last edited Apr 05, 2016 02:40PM) (new)

Abby Elizabeth | 4157 comments I wanna go into the Honor's College program at a University in my area. The University is already a really good school I've heard but with Honor's College it's supposed to be the best professors and small classes. My brother got in so that's where he's going to go.

message 26384: by Zechariah (last edited Apr 05, 2016 02:50PM) (new)

Zechariah (zechbarrett) | 2992 comments Cool :) Small classes are nice.

message 26385: by Rebecca (new)

Rebecca | 3428 comments Well, my college is supposed to have great professors and small classes. For the most part, it is true. But there are a handful of professors that seem to want the class to fail...

Yes, small classes are great :)

message 26386: by Zechariah (new)

Zechariah (zechbarrett) | 2992 comments I've had and heard of those professors before too... -.-

message 26388: by Abby Elizabeth (new)

Abby Elizabeth | 4157 comments I just read the course description for next year's chemistry class and just reading it gave me heart palpitations and made my eyes tear up. -.-

message 26389: by Rebecca (new)

Rebecca | 3428 comments I know what you mean!

(but Chem is fun)

message 26390: by Abby Elizabeth (last edited Apr 05, 2016 05:25PM) (new)

Abby Elizabeth | 4157 comments But there's an emphasis on the math and let me tell you I don't math. Plus the teacher is a really hard teacher (I had her in MS and that class almost killed me) and it's a really hard class and just noooo.

Plus I'll be in Algebra 2. But my sister is teaching it so it'll be fun. Except I'll have to call her Mrs. ____ (I'm not gonna put her last name for any and all to see but you get the idea)

message 26391: by Zechariah (new)

Zechariah (zechbarrett) | 2992 comments Maybe with your sister you'll start to enjoy math, and maybe, just maybe, chemistry. :P

message 26392: by Abby Elizabeth (new)

Abby Elizabeth | 4157 comments That'd be nice. Or if not enjoy, at least understand it to a degree that the class isn't stressful.

message 26393: by Zechariah (new)

Zechariah (zechbarrett) | 2992 comments :D I'm hoping and praying for that outcome.
