Sure it is catchy, and the artists behind it are very talented at making music. But catchy is no excuse for the lyrics. Would you listen to a song that supported killing children if it was catchy?

If you take away the music, Uptown Funk is about a vain, arrogant, self-centered guy who objectifies women and expects them to fall at his feet.

And have you seen the music video?? Every time he sings, "girls hit your hallelujah" it shows girls walking across the screen, but their head is cropped out. It is dehumanizing. Obviously they are no more than sexual objects.

And I have not even talked about the language, or close equivalents that you know what they actually mean.

This is all disgusting and repulsive. So, I don't really care if it is catchy.

For me, I basically just ignore the lyrics and enjoy a good dance to it now and again. It's definitely not a great song...

I can come across quite strong when I'm passionate about something. I've just heard so many people use "it's catchy" as an excuse to listen to any song they want. And Uptown Funk is huge! We are letting the music industry know that we want more of it! While I would be all for more quality, catchy songs, I won't support them if they have disrespectful lyrics.

That's a good position to have!!! I never really gave it much thought before. It seems most songs I hear nowadays beyond the Christian radio is kind of disrespectful in some regard.
