Technique?

Would anyone care to comment on whether they think this book was written with skill, or were they just interested in the story? I tend to enjoy books for the author's use of creativity as opposed to just the story itself.

Colby Buzzell definitely has a strong hold on his prose, his writing style is extremely natural. I've been in many, many writers' workshops over the course of my life and you can often tell even by reading even a few paragraphs whether or not an author has control of their writing. Some people write pretty sentences that go nowhere, others write characters with unintentionally unrealistic dialogue, and so on. Some people only list facts. Buzzell has a great blend of internal thought, good pacing, and I love how he isn't afraid to portray himself negatively at times.
