Stuart (mccallum) | 5 comments Hey Charlene,

I understand where you are coming from, the need to get your writing into print and available for the world to read.

Follow the dream and make it a reality. Strangely, when this happens, which it will, all the sceptics magically disapear from your life. Terrific stuff.

Enjoy the muse.

Guys: I think the thing about writing is that, not only does it give you an opportunity to put your past behind you, which it did for me, its also a great release.

From a fiction point of view, we are at times, absolutely amazed at the imagination some people have and are able to put down on paper and into print.

Further on fiction work: I must admit, I'm absolutely loving working on the novel I'm currently putting together. Sometimes I find it just so exciting.

Cheers

Steve

Debra (debrapurdykong) Writing also enables me to stop thinking about the present. I can't concentrate for long - maybe 40 minute intervals - but during that time whatever crap is happening in my life is forgotten while I'm working on fictional plots. It's helped me get through some depressing times.

Stuart (mccallum) | 5 comments Hello,
Writing is truly a fabulous form of escapism, whichever genre you write. Our minds are totally focused on the story and reality takes second place. To be able to enjoy what you do in life makes us as writers - extremely fortunate people.

Jeffrey (professorjeff) Hi! I'm new to the group, so I'll do a quick introduction and give you the "why?" I've been writing for over 20 years: humor for myself and others, poetry, essays, novels (fiction and non-fiction). I write because I have to. I write to keep from getting too depressed, for those who came here with writer's DNA that's what you do: write. I write everything and anything. I'm promoting a piece of fiction now, I describe it as a philosophical, theological, science fiction / fantasy, comedy, satire, essay (basically Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy meets Gulliver's Travels meets Harry Potter meets Ghandi meets Groucho Marx). I'm also promoting a self-improvement e-book titled Give and Grow Yourself Rich, as well as working on a children's story titled The Search for Adrianna: A Christmas Story. I truly write because I have to, but most of my content is to uplift and inspire hope and a long life, one that considers that beyond the grave. Thanks for reading. Peace.

MELISSA (melissaannmassey) | 4 comments As a small child I was always day dreaming in school. I didn't get the best grades but when I got into high school I got more focused. I think my teachers got frustrated with me alot. I remember one of my teachers screaming at me. I was only in second grade. I think I want to mail her my first book. lol. I think that kids are suppose to day dream to a point. they need to dream about what they want to be when they get older...

I have let a few people read my poems they say they are good. But this is my first time writing a book. I am constantly analizing my past. What I've learned I write down.

Christine Hart (christine_hart) Hi - I'm new to this group too. I have to say, much of what I've read above applies to my own experiences.

In general, I write out of an insatiable compulsion. But I wrote Watching July because I felt that I finally had a story, a plot and protagonist, which had a real chance of making it out of a slush pile.

I grounded the supernatural elements in the reality of the region I grew up in. I thought if I could give speculative incidents a concrete setting and contemporary atmosphere, the reader would be able to connect.

Since my novel came out in May, I've been hearing good things, so it's encouraging.

Cindy (cindylouyoung) | 1 comments Hi -

I am new to the group - so hello everybody.

I love to read and write. I think that this is basically because I am introverted - this is my "comfort zone". There is no better medicine for me that a quiet place and a good book! When I am confused about a situation or a direction that I need to take, I read and try to understand all that I can about the situation.

I have gotten my first book published, and I hope that there are many more to follow.

A good book always speaks from the heart!

Karen (karenvwrites) Hi I am very new here. why did I write my book Dead On arrival? I enjoy the entertainment that books provide. I wanted to contribute to that. I thought my story was cute --humourous to entertain nad a neat little mystery without scaring the pants off people.
