Eternal_syth | 55 comments In 2001, a Japanese mangaka (comic book artist), Hatori Bisco created a story titled, Sennen no Yuki (Millennium Snow. The story as follows:

Seventeen-year-old Chiyuki Matsuoka was born with heart problems, and her doctors say she won't live to see the next snow. Touya is an 18-year-old vampire who hates blood and refuses to make the traditional partnership with a human, whose life-giving blood would keep them both alive for a thousand years. Can Chiyuki teach Touya to feel a passion for life, even as her own is ending? - from mangaupdates.com

However, there is a love triangle hidden here. There is a werewolf (yes, that's right, a werewolf) who happens to interested in the heroine as well.

My friends argued saying Hatori Bisco copied Stephanie Myers. No way! Really!? Since when did 2001 come after 2005? I'm just curious. But then again, I believe Stephanie Myers ripped off a bunch of other vampire stories, like Anne Rice's stories.

So yeah, just wanted to point that out, because Hatori Bisco and Stephanie Myer's werewolf-human-vampire love triangle story resemble each. Though I find Bisco Hatori's more interesting, and fun to read.

Please Note that Millennium Snow is on hiatus. Hatori Bisco had said that she will continue it later, after Ouran High School Host Club (her current work) is finished, which should be sometime this year. However, it is still uncertain, since MS is quite old.

Millennium Snow can be read here:

Note: If you have never read a manga before, the text is read from right to left.

Alicia (aliciaftw) Interesting, I've never heard of it. I may read just to see how alike they are.

message 3: by Keara (new)

Keara (kearachristine) I've never read Manga before. We'll see how it turns out... >.>

message 4: by Kimathy (last edited Jun 30, 2010 08:09PM) (new)

Kimathy sounds like a much more interesting book, i might read it.

message 5: by Keara (new)

Keara (kearachristine) It's pretty good so far. I have to keep in mind that it's translated and therefore sounds like a four-year-old wrote it, but other than that it's interesting.

message 6: by Kimathy (new)

Kimathy i don't know what order to read it! @.@ I've never read manga!

message 7: by Keara (new)

Keara (kearachristine) It's right to left. It says at the top of the page.

If you read like ten pages you'll get used to it.

message 8: by Kimathy (new)

Kimathy oh, OK then. :/ I'm not sure if i will read it lol i feel really lazy, maybe tomorrow

message 9: by Keara (new)

Keara (kearachristine) It's really good, actually. Way the hell better than Twilight.

message 10: by Kimathy (new)

Kimathy it sounds like it! :P

message 11: by Keara (new)

Keara (kearachristine) It's just not very descriptive. Probably because it's a Manga...

I bet I'll get used to it after a while. It's just another writing style.

Yeah, descriptions are not really necessary when there's pictures. A picture says a thousand words?

message 13: by Keara (new)

Keara (kearachristine) Nonono, I mean like... HOW does she already love him 50 pages in?

message 14: by Alicia (new)

Alicia (aliciaftw) ☺MYHAPPYMONSTER wrote: "Nonono, I mean like... HOW does she already love him 50 pages in?"

Oh okay. I haven't started it yet, no clue. Have you really not read a manga before? You should read Fruits Basket. I read it when I was at the age I'm guessing you are, and I loved it. Very optimistic story.

message 15: by Keara (new)

Keara (kearachristine) I'm 14. So...

Eh... maybe. I haven't heard the best things about Fruits Basket.

And I THINK I read a Manga in second grade. It was really confusing - I had the whole story backwards.

I wouldn't trust what other people say - most of the general population like Twilight at this point.

message 17: by Keara (new)

Keara (kearachristine) Yeah, but I heard it from my friend, N, who is a Manga/Anime freak.

Seriously, you should see her room.

She's a sculptor and made models of her favorite Death Note character.

message 18: by Eternal_syth (new)

Eternal_syth | 55 comments I bet, that in just a couple of years. Middle schools are going to have Twilight be literature that students have to read.

message 19: by Eternal_syth (last edited Jun 30, 2010 11:41PM) (new)

Eternal_syth | 55 comments Anyways, back on topic. lol.

Millennium Snow was a good read for me. But, Hatori Bisco needs to continue it soon, because the last chapter of her current work (Ouran Host Club) is going to come out in late July. So hopefully, she'll announce that MS will be continued.

message 20: by Keara (new)

Keara (kearachristine) Yeah, I read that on the Manga page.

Why are Manga series so long?

message 21: by Eternal_syth (last edited Jul 01, 2010 12:08AM) (new)

Eternal_syth | 55 comments They just are. I guess, it's because the author is telling the story using pictures instead of words, and the plot/storyline is more complex(?). Sorry, I can't really explain it well, eventhough I've read so many manga series already. Vampire Knight is one you might want to check out, though I suggest you only read the first 5 or 6 books, because after that the storyline drags, and it becomes like a soap opera version of twilight, where the heroine becomes selfish and can't make up her mind, she transforms into a "Mary Sue". But yeah.

HUGE SPOILER: The heroine can't decide weither she is in love with her brother (how sick and disturbing) or her childhood friend. This happens after the 9th book I believe.

message 22: by Keara (new)

message 30: by [deleted user] (new)

Argh. I don't like fruits basket- never could get into it. XP my friends like it though.

Alicia (aliciaftw) ☺MYHAPPYMONSTER wrote: "HOLY... *refrains from swearing*

A manga volume takes less than 30 mins to read though, keep in mind.

Another popular one is Inuyasha. I saw the anime and liked it when I was younger - the soundtrack was beautiful. I don't know how the manga compares.

message 32: by Keara (new)

Keara (kearachristine) So... you're paying at least $5 for a book that will take less than an hour to read?

Sometimes I take longer than that to EAT.

message 33: by [deleted user] (new)

you bet! that's the adverage for me to :D
OMG I LOVE INUYASHA!!!!!!!!!!
i've rad the first volume but i can't find the rest T_T

message 34: by Keara (new)

Keara (kearachristine) Have you looked at book swap?

message 35: by [deleted user] (new)

message 36: by Keara (new)

Keara (kearachristine) http://www.goodreads.com/swap/search?...

Here, I'm actually surprised they have them.

:/ Too bad it only ships to US and Can...

You could always request them sent to a relative or something and then forwarded to you.

message 41: by Keara (new)

Keara (kearachristine) OH MY GOSH! I JUST LOOKED AT THE COVERS!

THAT'S THE MANGA I READ IN SECOND GRADE!

I only remembered there was a person with white hair and cat ears on the cover.

message 42: by [deleted user] (new)

ahaha. really second grade? no wonder your a bit funny in the head XP
nudity- gore YAY!
well.. it is quite sesered...
not as bad as some stuff :D

message 43: by Keara (new)

Keara (kearachristine) No, it's because of my parents.

Mom: "Keara, pass that ranch."
Brother: "THAT'S WHAT SHE SAID!" He's only ten and doesn't know what that means.
Mom: "GO TO YOUR ROOM!"
Dad: "Yeah! You used it wrong!"

Wait... did they show a boob in that Manga?

Alicia (aliciaftw) ☺MYHAPPYMONSTER wrote: "So... you're paying at least $5 for a book that will take less than an hour to read?

That's the reason I read them online, actually. I feel bad for not giving money to the company, but right now with my income I can't justify spending ten dollars on something I'm done with in less than an hour.

message 45: by Eternal_syth (new)

Eternal_syth | 55 comments When is comes to "Smut". But, watch out for things like "Josei", "Seinen" and "Ecchi (this definitely will have some)" as well. I don't think you have to worry about "Mature".

I buy manga, and it really is expensive. But, I try to buy used mangas from bookstores and if I can't find the one I want, I will usually just buy them new.

btw, Inuyasha has 56 books.

message 46: by Keara (new)

Keara (kearachristine) o.o How do these people find time to write this junk?

message 47: by Keara (new)

Keara (kearachristine) Sorry... stuff... ?

message 48: by Eternal_syth (new)

Eternal_syth | 55 comments I dunno. One of my most favorite manga author, said that in an interview that she is able to do/draw up to 30-50 pages a day. I suppose they are just gifted and devoted to what they love. I mean, there's no other possible answer in my opinion. It's like writing, many authors are able to write many different stories/books in a short amount of time.

To be honest, I never could get into Inuyasha. I thought is was boring and just didn't suit my tastes and plus, it kept repeating itself. But, my friend loves it and is collecting all the books, though she has 5-7 more years to go. Since Book 36 is the latest that is out in the U.S, lol.

message 49: by Keara (new)

Keara (kearachristine) Only half-way there.

I never did finish Inuyasha. I really liked what I read but that author does not know how to finish a series.
