The one I have in mind is pretty elaborate, at least a 6 monther, but it could be a year one too, depending on how many categories you decide on.It's a title challenge, you have to find specific words in the title of the books. But instead of giving words to choose from, we give categories of words to choose from. I was trying to think of categories earlier today, here are some I thought of for you guys to yea or nay. :)
Title must contain:
A color
A number
A flower
A tree
A name in the title
A city, state or country
A body part (heart, eye, hand, bone, etc)
A weapon (knife, sword, arrow, dart, etc)
A body of water (sea, ocean, river, lake, pond, etc)
A form of water (ice, fog, rain, snow, water, etc)
A product of fire (heat, smoke, fire, burn, flames, etc)
A heavenly body (sun, moon, star, etc)
A piece of architecture (castle, house, tower, bridge, etc)
One of the 5 senses (sight, sound, touch, scent, taste)
A royal title (king, queen, princess, duke, etc)
A family member (brother, daughter, mother, etc)
One of the 4 elements (fire, earth, water, air)
One of the 4 seasons
A time of day (morning, noon, night, evening, midnight, etc)
A metal (gold, silver, bronze, iron, steel, etc)
I like them all actually. Sounds good! I'll give people time to absorb the challenges listed and add this one soon. :)**NOTE TO SELF: Create group challenge "I Spy" by Laura LuLu**
Add more categories if you can think of any--I didn't actually go through my TBR to see what I have that fits, but maybe I'll come up with more ideas when I do that tomorrow.
LOL! No, Judithe, you have to wait until I post and "open" it to the group. hehe >:)I'll take a look through my covers and come back with any suggestions I find.
Gonna be fun! Oh wait, I'll have to make this one like Yz does for some of hers with rules stating you can choose 3, 5, 8 or all or something like that. I gotta make sure my TBRs already chosen for 2010 will fit before I can join in the fun! LOL!!
Bad is good...so very, very good! I've been flipping through my on hand TBR's to see where they fit for covers...one book for challenges...maybe I need to sign up for some more? Just kidding! 33 minutes until July....
I still have 4 hours until July. Should be just enough time to finish this last book. And I shall finish! Long live OCD! Hoorah!
YEAH!!!! I finished mine and am happily through July's first selection. And have also cooked meals, done laundry and dealt with garbage! Side note...I also managed to sign up for one, or was that two?, more challenges...
LOL Sandra! Challenge enablers! That is so true!Dang, Judithe, already finished 1 for July? I gotta get readin'! I started The Darkest Lie and had to take a break b/c Gideon's lie-talk was beginning to take a toll on my morning-brain. LOL!
Yeah, Laura LuLu! Congrats! Anytime you need a cheering squad, we're here! :)
Spent a lot of time at the vet's this morning...that should have been "partly" at the time of writing, and "completely" now. It (the novel) went surprisingly quick...which is good as am now too depressed to read.
Well, the dog is sick, and the vet's not sure what it is...more tests, and the medicine for a highly probable cause(though this could still be a fatal illness even with treatment, it maybe just making her more comfortable). The depressing thing is I just watched my spending money for the month disappear, in fact, bills will become tight if we continue treatment (and how can we not???!!!)so, ouch. The good news is after her injection and round 1 of meds, she's eating a little and drinking a little more water. Selfish thinking is there went my birthday dinner out...and new books will probably have to wait a bit longer (glad I do have a stock of TBR's...particularly cause I'm not inclined to go anywhere =except work= until she's doing a little better
:( So sorry, Judithe. It's always hard when our pets are sick. I hate it. They can't tell ya how/what's going on. Sucks! Hang in there and all digits crossed for a speedy recovery! If you run out of books to read, let me know and I'll use the JP shipping thingy to loan ya some of mine. :)
Thanks, sweetie! I think I have a couple books you're looking for too...Drakon ones, and something else. Dang...was that your list of books to be read thread? We'll have to talk more about this, and I've got to make another trip to the vet's office. Fingers, toes, legs, even eyes crossed! :)
I think you could easily have challenges based on fairy tales:EXAMPLES:
SNOW WHITE
1. A darked haired girl on cover
2. about a witch or has a witch in title or cover
3. has an apple on the cover
4. has the number 7 in the title/ is the 7th book in a series
5. Has mirror in the title or cover
CINDERELLA
1. a blond haired girl on cover
2. is about sisters or has sister in the title
3. has a shoe on the cover
4. has prince in the title
5. has a fairy, godmother, angel or guardian character.
You could have them be able to pick and choose ones where the readers list all 5 books if they want and have to read 3 or more? with a 3 month duration? Each could be a separate challenge. Other challenges based on other fairy tales could be added.
What about a quarterly challenge? Maybe a "Hopscotch Series Challenge" where you "hop" around between 3 or more different series that you are currently in the middle of. Have a mininum of 9 books to read over the time frame of four months. See how many series you can complete during that time. "Hopscotch" may sound lame...maybe someone else can come up with a better name, or expound on the idea.

Thanks. I am glad you like my idea. :)
Both of those look fun!!(And thanks for your get well wishes, southpaw285. She's doing much better :) )
I'm glad Judithe, I was only thinking yesterday that I should ask how she was doing. And the ideas just keep popping here. They all sound good.
Those are great ideas, ya'll! I've made note of them and will come up with something soon. Just added the "the end" challenge and don't wanna pile too much onto everyone's plate at once. Or would everyone rather I just list them and people can jump in whenever they'd like? Keep 'um comin'! Love the creativity! We'll have fun with them both.

How about, since a hopscotch "board" is made up of 10 squares, we have 10 books that have to be ... book 1, book 2, book 3, so on, but each from a different series? What do you think? Or had you had a different thought?

Very cool idea! Everyone loves a cover/title hunt. :)

:) Cool! Me too.Would everyone like me to post challenges as they come to mind (or are suggested) -or- would you rather they be spaced out a bit to allow for reading time in already on-going challenges?
Ummmmm....spacing them out is... throat clearing ...responsible/reasonable/perhaps even a good idea...but I have a bunch of new books (how did that happen????). What about setting some to start from August? (And you have to promise not to take out your whip!)
LOL :) Yeah, that's what I was thinking. For now, I'm just making note of these great suggestions to post at a later date. Not sure when, but not before August. Plus, I gotta start thinking about which books to put in the next BOM poll. (ok, I'll keep the whip holstered, for now)
How about the next round of challenges start in September; especially with the relay challenge I know a few of us have taken on at RRRC, now under way. Pretty please, I don't want to miss out.
That sounds good, but we need a twist, cause otherwise its the same as RRRC's Read Your Name Challenge.Twist away people.
Will come up with something as soon as I've drank my brain juice I'm tired today....Been staying up to long @ night I guess.
Hmmm...that one (name) is only books...we could do authors (first and last) or characters, and of course, steer other challenge lovers to that one and the others. If we wanted to be wicked, we could do it where every book had a different creature as well (taking ideas from awesomevegan's lovely challenge).
Another challenge I want to do is an A-Z. Those are nice challenges to start the year with (though I got into it a bit later). My first A-Z idea is a main (or secondary recurring character in the series) profession challenge. Profession name-real or unique to that world (i.e. xenobiologist) or field name (film industry). I thought only professions at first, but don't want to be tearing my hair out trying to find some unbelievably obscure thing.
Any other A-Z ideas?
Another one that I haven't thought out completely is on the lines of a quarterly/half-year challenge. Breakfast cereals got me thinking about Saturday morning cartoons....Fat Albert: a book over 400 pages (or 500?)
Wonder Woman: a kick-ass heroine
Starblazers: story set in space
And so on. I've seen some similar challenges, but they are fun, and I haven't seen anyone do cartoons yet!
Oh...one more...read the year. Read 12 books, one a month, with the author (first or last) or title starting with the first letter of that month. Maybe even make it a first of the series, or second book of the series. Or, read a singleton for January, then one book of a duology for February, one of a trilogy for March, one a series that has only for books published for April (4 books at the end of April...if a 5th comes out later in the year, it still qualifies) and so on.
That just turned into two more...blame it on the natural showers today!

Like were you going with this one.
Boy, Judithe you are on a roll. You'll need to space them out (except for the yearly ones) or we'll never get to them all.The profession one could get really hard if you do A-Z. Why not pick a number to do say 13 (half the alphabet) and do A-M or N-Z (the really hard ones). Just thinking aloud.
Used to love Sat morning cartoons.
