Jason (darkfiction) | 3204 comments Caitlin is one of my all-time favorite authors. I pimp her stuff so often, I'm surprised I didn't do it here earlier. LOL

Her books can be so strange and wierd that you're left scratching your head. I'm surprised she's not more popular.

Have you read her? If so, what are your favorites.

My favorites are, well, pretty much everything I've read from her. But the ones that stand out the most are:

The Red Tree
Threshold
Silk

Danielle The Book Huntress (gatadelafuente) She's a wonderful writer. Very strange. Often I have no idea what she's writing about. :)

Amanda M. Lyons (amandamlyons) God I love her! I try to get everything she writes after I read SILK. Her characters are generally southern Gothic and so much happens to them. I've only gotten to read so many of her books as I get most of them through the library however. And I agree of what I've read The Red Tree, Threshold, and Silk are some of the best examples of her work. Poppy, Caitlin and Christa Faust all came out about the same time and are still active in books in various ways. I do wish they did more however. They (along with authors like Kathe Koja) were the new voices of horror in the 90s and well followed by those of us into goth culture at the time.

Have you added her on facebook? She actually maintains her page there and talks throughout the day.

LOL If there is a reason why Caitlin isn't more popular, it would be because of this. For some reason, I love it when she leaves me somewhere on left field, scratching my head and wondering what's going on. I think it's because I like things being left as unknown. Comes across as more scary. But some people don't like that. Which is cool!

Jason (darkfiction) | 3204 comments @ Amanda. Yeah, she's a friend of mine on Facebook too. I like how she keeps you posted with her word count.

Have you ever read her blog?

Danielle The Book Huntress (gatadelafuente) I do like reading stories that leave me with a fair amount of questions, if they are well done. Kiernan definitely does it well.

Jason (darkfiction) | 3204 comments Indeed!

Yep. I follow Poppy and Caitlin's blogs pretty regularly.

Jason (darkfiction) | 3204 comments Amanda, since you follow Poppy's blog as well, I was wondering if she ever went back to writing. I was following her back when the pain of her sciatica was preventing her from doing so.

Not that I've seen but she did reorganize her office and has been getting involved in things like making decorative books to sell and her garden lately. I'm holding out hope that she'll go back to writing soon. I like her Liquor books thus far even if they aren't horror.

message 11: by Jason (new)

Jason (darkfiction) | 3204 comments I didn't mind her transition from horror to the Liquor books, either. I imagine that she'll get back to it in all good time. Hopefully anyway.

message 12: by Amanda (new)

Amanda M. Lyons (amandamlyons) Yeah I think its mostly all that happened with the hurricane still affecting her emotionally. Though things have been getting better for her and Chris.

message 13: by Jason (new)

Jason (darkfiction) | 3204 comments That's good. Maybe one day she'll decide to sit back on that writing throne!

Matthew Brown (matthewjbrown) | 218 comments I had Caitlin and Christa as guests on my radio show once! They were great. Caitlin is seriously, seriously tall :)

message 15: by Jason (new)

Jason (darkfiction) | 3204 comments That's awesome, Matthew! She sort of looks like she's tall!

message 16: by Traci (new)

Traci Comments made about this author has intrigued me enough to want to try one of her books. But I'd hate to start with the wrong one. Which book would be a good start? Not too difficult, if she is hard to get into, but a good representative of her writing.

message 17: by Amanda (new)

Amanda M. Lyons (amandamlyons) I think Silk is a good one to try.

message 18: by Traci (new)

Traci Thank you.

message 19: by Amanda (new)

Amanda M. Lyons (amandamlyons) No problem :)

message 20: by Jason (new)

Jason (darkfiction) | 3204 comments Silk or The Red Tree. The Red Tree is almost as if Shirley Jackson were still alive and writing today!

message 21: by Traci (new)

Traci I love Shirley Jackson. The Haunting of Hill House is my favorite ghost story. Basis of my favorite horror movie too. The original The Haunting. Reading reviews on both I'm leaning toward The Red Tree because it sounds more gothic horror. And reminds readers of Hill House. But Silk sounds like a dark fantasy akin to Neil Gaiman, which I also like.
Have either of you read Where Are You Going, Where Have You Been?: Selected Early Stories. I read that story in school. Left a big impression on me along with Jackson's The Lottery. Where Are You Going, seems like a straight forward tale of a rebellious teenage girl but hidden in the wording is a tale of the devil claiming an innocent.

Jason (darkfiction) | 3204 comments The Red Tree is an excellent choice.

I have not read that, but it is now on my TBR mountain! Thank you for the suggestion.
