Kristin | 89 comments Not sure if this series has been discussed already but I am LOVING this series. Seriously LOVING this series, and I can't stop talking about it!

So far I have read the first three (in three days)
Beyond the Highland Mist (Highlander, #1) by Karen Marie Moning
To Tame a Highland Warrior (Highlander, #2) by Karen Marie Moning
The Highlander's Touch (Highlander, #3) by Karen Marie Moning

There is just a touch of Paranomal, really more fantasy than paranormal, but it does offer some bits of Fairy, Time travel, Immortality.

But yeah, really loving this series. Hot Alpha Males, strong female characters, it is Historical Romance, which I never thought I would like, but yeah, I am really enjoying it!

Anyone else love them some Highlander?

message 2: by Nita (new)

Nita (gillnit) I enjoyed this series a lot. My favorite books from this series are Kiss of the Highlander (Highlander, #4) by Karen Marie Moning and The Immortal Highlander (Highlander, #6) by Karen Marie Moning . Moning's Fever series is also great. It is urban fantasy as opposed to romance, but there is some great sexual tension between Mac and Barrons.

message 3: by Courtney (new)

Courtney (mrs_hf) | 173 comments I tried to read the first one in the series and I just has SO much trouble with the "heroine". She just took the "I have to deny myself because I've been hurt in the past" thing waaay too far. I've heard the series gets pretty amazing after the second book or so though so *shrug* I may need to give it another go.

message 4: by Kristin (new)

Kristin | 89 comments Courtney, it does get better, but yeah, each Heroine has some "Baggage" they have to get over.

The 2nd book, actually its the male character.

The 3rd book its the Heroine (Am I spelling that right?)

message 5: by Kelleigh (last edited Jun 26, 2010 07:50PM) (new)

Kelleigh (goodreadscomsunshine2047) Love this series! Karen Marie Moning is my favorite author of all time... if you love these you HAVE to read her Fever series. Hands down my favorite series ever. And yes keep reading, they get much better as you go.

Happy reading!

message 6: by Pearl Reads (new)

Pearl Reads (pearl24) This is one of those series that gets better and better. I think I also have to agree with Nita, "The Immortal Highlander" is also one of my favorites.

message 7: by Heather (new)

Heather | 243 comments I was the same way Courtney, couldn't stand BTHM but I read the second one and OMG, I completely and utterly fell in love!

message 8: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) I enjoyed the series but didn't love it. I couldn't stand BTHM and didn't really like #2 either. But the rest are good -- my favorite one was The Dark Highlander (Highlander, #5) by Karen Marie Moning

message 9: by Heather (new)

Heather | 243 comments KOTH and TTAHW are my favorites..

message 10: by Cona (new)

Cona Hartwig | 49 comments I love Hannah Howell's Highlander series!

message 11: by Jessa ♥ EvilDarkSide (last edited Jun 26, 2010 11:48PM) (new)

Jessa ♥ EvilDarkSide (metalgirl80) Yep, great series. Daegus(Dark Highlander) and Adam(Immortal Highlander) are my favs. Mmmm....sexy!

And I agree with the other's about the Fever series. It's a must read! Mac and Barrons set the pages on fire with their sexual tension!!

message 12: by Kristin (new)

Kristin | 89 comments The only thing that irritates me about this series, is that, unlike most series, where a supporting character in one book will then be the main character the next book, she seems to start fresh characters each book!

With the exception of Grimm and Adam's stories. So when I am reading, I see that she spends time on a supporting character (like Quinn in book two, or Duncan in book 3) and I think to myself "Och, for sure they will be the leads in the next book" only to find, she starts with fresh characters! And I am already vested in the characters from the previous books, but I don't get to see their HEA's?

message 13: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) Kristin, I read a chat or interview with her somewhere, she intended to write books on Quinn and Duncan -- but it never happened. In her later books, there doesn't seem to be any characters who go nowhere.

message 14: by Kristin (last edited Jun 27, 2010 06:23AM) (new)

Kristin | 89 comments oh good, It really irritates me so I am glad to hear it doesn't repeat the entire series.

Its too bad there probably won't be anymore Highlander books! I am really enjoying them, but yeah, I will definitely check out the fever series when I am done!

message 15: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) I prefer the fever series. It is darker and definitely not romance based, it is urban fantasy.

message 16: by Sally (new)

Sally (larwos) | 258 comments I've always agreed that the Fever series was better, but I'm reading Spell of the Highlander at the moment and I'm really loving it.

message 17: by Jesse (new)

Jesse (Jessep) | 119 comments I'm glad to hear that this is a good series. I've read her Fever Series and was absolutely hooked from book one, so I picked up the first couple of books of this series and just haven't had it at the top of my list. I'll have to move it up a notch now.

message 18: by Heather (new)

Heather | 243 comments Shoot! I don't remember as it has been so long since I read them. That and I have a little brain..

message 19: by Angela (new)

Angela (angbens) | 343 comments I've read the first 2 so far. The next two are sitting on my book shelf waiting thier turn....

message 20: by Heather (new)

Heather | 243 comments Angela, I know what you mean.

Here's a thought; what if men were like that? They would just sit there, waiting their turn..

message 21: by Mhollie (new)

Mhollie | 178 comments Too bad the series is done. I read somewhere the author said that she has no intention of continuing the series.

message 22: by Rebecca (Bec) (new)

Rebecca (Bec) | 248 comments I just started this series and now have a fetish for men in kilts where i never had before.. strange. Read the first two so far, waiting on the rest that I just ordered to come my way.

love it so far! Making this a headline in my TBR with kresly coles immortals after dark series.

Suzanne (Under the Covers Book blog) | 411 comments I have read most of these I think, but it was a while ago! I am going to have to give them a reread. I remember liking them though and my fave was aboout someone trapped in a mirror, and a woman lets him out. I can't remember which one it is now!

message 24: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) Spell of a highlander or highlander's spell - Cian. Yeah he is very likable.

Jessa ♥ EvilDarkSide (metalgirl80) Regina wrote: "Spell of a highlander or highlander's spell - Cian. Yeah he is very likable."

I listened to that one on audio and I loved the guy's accent. He gave me chills with that Scottish burr. YUM!

message 26: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) Funny!! That is the only one I haven't listened to on audio. I plowed through and read this series in a few weeks. Then I checked out from my library all the audio books and listened to all of them. But my library doesn't have cian's!! The narrator is fabulous. He narrates all the HL series and #4 of the fever series. He brings the hotness of the men to life.

Jessa ♥ EvilDarkSide (metalgirl80) Regina wrote: "Funny!! That is the only one I haven't listened to on audio. I plowed through and read this series in a few weeks. Then I checked out from my library all the audio books and listened to all of them..."

Yeah, that is funny because it's the only one I have listened to on audio. The rest I read back to back but didn't do the audio thing. I would rather read than listen to a book. For some reason it doesn't stick in my mind if I don't see the words on the page. I guess I have a photographic memory.

Phil Gigante narrates all the Highlander books, and he also serves as the voice for all the male characters in Book 4(DreamFever) of the Fever series.

That man can read for me all day long and I will never get tired. :)

message 29: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) I listen to audio while at work (sometimes) and while walking to and from the train (home and to work) -- so when I can't read I listen to audio. :)

Jessa ♥ EvilDarkSide (metalgirl80) Regina wrote: "I listen to audio while at work (sometimes) and while walking to and from the train (home and to work) -- so when I can't read I listen to audio. :)"

Thats cool. It only takes me 5 minutes to get to work.

message 31: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) Well that is nice!! :) I have a train ride each way, but it is my alone time and reading time so I don't mind. I have 4 kids so I will take what I get.

Thats nice. I feel ya. I've got 3 kids and hardly no quiet time. I work in a Emergency Room so even when I'm away from the kiddos I still have to deal with other peoples kids and sick people. LOL! I always wondered why my husband never complains about his 45 minute drive to work. It must be peaceful. :-)

message 33: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) LOL! But hey what a very important job, at least you are doing something to help people. He can't wait to hit traffic! My poor hubby is a stay at home dad, so he has no time but his weekend soccer games.

Aw, I bet he's a wonderful Dad.

Suzanne (Under the Covers Book blog) | 411 comments I think I may have to get these on audio, I have never listened to a book before, but I have a fairly long journey to work and back so might be worth it.

It will take a little time to adjust to listening to an audiobook, like learning how to focus and not let your mind wander, but once you get the hang of it, it can be addictive.

I never used the radio in my car, because I always have an audiobook playing every time I drive. Sometimes I think I look for excuses to go somewhere so I can continue listening. :)

message 37: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) And it is great for rote activities like folding clothes, doing dishes ..... I load on my iPod and go.

Suzanne (Under the Covers Book blog) | 411 comments That is what I would do, put it on my iPod, are they quite exspensive?

message 39: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) Well I get the majority from my online library system. Overdrive.com. I do not know if this is applicable in the uK or if you have a comparable alternative but I bet there is.

I am also a member of audible.com which has great sales and benefits.

message 40: by Sally (new)

Sally (larwos) | 258 comments I get the overdrive audio too. I get it through the public library.

I bought a Kobo eReader today from Borders and am having a lovely time downloading ebooks from the same library.

message 41: by Kristin (last edited Jul 02, 2010 05:45PM) (new)

Kristin | 89 comments Is the fever series set in Scottland?

I am wondering because if the same narrator does both series audio books, does he change his accent.

I have never considered a scott to be a hotty. Let alone a mid-evil Scott. But Dayam...if Drustan came to my door tomorrow morning....a Tuppin we would be ;)

ETA: I have 3 kids too (2 kids and one husband) so yeah, reading is my sanctuary! I have a Kindle and my daughter calls it Mommys Candle. (she is 3)

message 42: by Sally (new)

Sally (larwos) | 258 comments My Kobo wasn't working properly and I called Borders who told me they had such a demand for them that they had rushed them through and one of the batches had a glitch - evidently I bought one of those. I took it back today and they put in the chip and reset it and it's now working fine.
i've been downloading from theebooksbay.com and have got some really good ones. None of them seem to have the Highlander series, but if you want to hear a good version of a sexy Scot, listen to Davina Porter portraying Jamie Fraser in the Diana Gabaldon audio books.

I read the first 2 in the series a few months ago. I liked it but It just wasn't my thing at the time. I picked up the 3rd book in the series from my used bookstore last night (gotta love $3.50 books) and plan to start it back up.

Too funny! I am going to start the 3rd one after the current book I am reading is done.

Stephine (paranormalhaven) | 81 comments Has anyone read the Lynsay Sands' highlander series? Her vampire series is hilarious but I haven't yet picked up any of these books.

message 46: by Angela (new)

Angela (angbens) | 343 comments I've heard they are good...

Suzanne (Under the Covers Book blog) | 411 comments Paranormal wrote: "Has anyone read the Lynsay Sands' highlander series? Her vampire series is hilarious but I haven't yet picked up any of these books."

I have read them, they are quite good, TBH they don't differ that much from her other historicals, they are light and funny, not the most amazing books, but certainly entertaining

message 48: by Angela (new)

Angela (angbens) | 343 comments Just finished The Highlander's Touch (Highlander, #3) by Karen Marie Moning and I liked this one the best so far.

Jessa ♥ EvilDarkSide (metalgirl80) Dark Highlander and Immortal Higlander are my favorites. Daegus and Adam are the best!

message 50: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) Mmmm..... Daegus.
