Suggestions on How We'll Approach Monthly Reads

I like that idea, or alternate subgenres every month. I think we start with first books or standalone.
I like this too. With two options those who want to could read both as well. It'll be fun and freer as well.
I like the read-alongs because thanks to the miracle of peer pressure, I'll read books that I otherwise wouldn't ever pickup.I do like the idea of having two choices; if one of them isn't doing it for me I can dig into the second one.
And selecting firsts and standalones is a very good idea.
Awesome! So, I guess we will have two books per month and stick to first books in a series plus standalones. When do you guys think we should start? Should we wait for more active members, or give 'er a go soon?
I'd say give it a go. I know, for me at least, classes/rehearsals are starting back up mid-August, so I might only be able to participate in August. I'd say try it and see if there's enough interest.

The only problem with this is that I can count at least three popular sub genres within the fantasy field, and not everybody enjoys them all. So, do you think it would be a good idea to have, perhaps, two different monthly reads? For example, one epic fantasy read and one urban fantasy a month?
Also, a lot of fantasy comes in series, especially epic fantasy. I was thinking that if we do have an epic fantasy monthly read, or any others for that matter, that we stick to first books and standalone books only.
Any suggestions?
