^ What he said. Also, I believe Romero himself acknowledged that they're zombies, but I could be mistaken.
I can't agree...even if Romero thinks they're zombies...but I have a feeling my opinion won't matter much LOL. If any monster in a trance is a zombie I've seen a lot of zombies in a lot of movies. One definition says it the word can be used for a person who acts zombie like... but I can't see that as a Zombie.
Then again, I still can't stand friendly, romantic, "nice" vampires either. It's not me...the world is confused!

Oh well.
It still bugs me.
sigh.
Lmao. I just love that I have something to tease sensei with now :) The 28 Days Later Zombies :D
so it is a fact we can put each other in trances and actually be zombies!but, if you are a zombie in a trance, you couldn't drink the tequila...
hmmm, maybe not
I'm with you, Mike.
A zombie isn't brought about by some measly man-made infection. They are the walking dead! Reanimated corpses! The damned forced to walk the earth with no minds and no thoughts but hunger for living flesh!
That's what a zombie always was and what a zombie always will be.
You can keep your infected victims and call them zombies, but we know better.

If it's of a dead person, then it's a zombie.
If it's someone who is alive, then it's a possession.

(Smiles finding myself not alone after all...)By the way, aside from the Rage plague...didn't the idea of a "zombie plague" originate in a video game? Wasn't it like Resident Evil?
Oh well.
brains...brains....isles of langerhans...

Guess your right. I was thinking of the 'gods' stuff from On Stranger Tides.

Weird, the edit didn't go through the first time.
At any rate, even the voodoo zombies as spoken of in that article(the haitian part) aren't really 'dead', just dosed.

Well I finally finished Stars in My Pocket Like Grains of Sand a most difficult read for me, but worth it. So, needing something simple and escapist while my subconscious processes the above so started my 1st Supernatural novel: Supernatural: Nevermore.
So, I just finished the BEST PNR I've read in FOREVER. Yaaaay! It was dang good and I can't wait til the next one comes out!I'm guessing I'm supposed to go back to reading 1984 or something like that but for some reason I'm in the mood for some action!
While giving Sensei a little time to finish up library books & such so we can do Daemons Are Forever...who's in the mood for a Buddy Read of Monster Hunter Vendetta?
Umm...already read it :) but I'll chime in! Super good. The new one will be out later this year :) I don't think I've ever read a PNR. Was the one you read something you think I'd like or would I just gag and throw away the book?

Was the one you read something you think I'd like or would I ..."Ummm, last I checked you're not really into romances, lol. It's a great book but you'd have to be ok with reading a romance - and then be taken with the action of the book (not the other way around). Have you even read a regular romance before? Kushiel's Dart doesn't count...
I've read all of Nicholas sparks novels. Does that count?
Kernos, let me know how that Supernatural book is when you're done please.
I'm tempted to give them a go myself.
I'm tempted to give them a go myself.
Monster Hunter Vendetta is great, I didn't like it as much as his first, but Larry Correia is definitely on my "auto-buy list".I'm almost through Midnight Riot...pretty good so far, I ordered the second.
Now to get to the 8 library books I have waiting. It's like I see an interesting book and lose perspective. I'll be leaving to go to the "Y" in a minute and I need to write some when I get back... then there's the leather work. I also have to keep the dirt level in the house down to a level where you can get around and find clean dishes. Then there's preparing meals...luckily I can read as I eat.
sigh...still at least I can still do this stuff. Not complaining...actually, I'm very blessed.
Carry on...talk to you later. :)
The Dread Pirate Grant wrote: "I've read all of Nicholas sparks novels. Does that count?"No, no, no, no, NO! LOL! That is NOT romance...it is "romantic." I'm talking more like Devil's Bride. Here's the PNR I've just finished: Dragon Bound.
(Form right and left index fingers into cross and hold it before me)...Uhh, right. I'm glad you like those MrsJ. Please feel free to enjoy...(back away from PNR book carefully to be sure it doesn't attack). Hope you find all the PNRs you want...:)
Mike (the Paladin) wrote: "(Form right and left index fingers into cross and hold it before me)...Uhh, right. I'm glad you like those MrsJ. Girls like romances...and in PNR I get romance WITH fantasy thrown in. LOL! It's a good book but unlike The Iron Duke it's more of a romance with fantastic action vs a fantasy with romantic parts.
As noted personal taste is a wonderful thing...(* see earlier discussion concerning "boiled okra, tripe, haggis, et al):)

PNR = ParaNormal Romance
It basicly covers any romance book that has paranormal characters as love interests. Twilight would be considered one.
lol! It's ok, a lot of people don't. Aloha refuses to read them anymore (but I think she'd like this one...) In addition to fantasy I read a ton of romance, too. I guess PNR was a natural progression for me.
Ah I like romance. I don't like sex. Well in books at least. Ive yet to see sex that i thought added to a story. And i loathe romantic vampires
Again I find myself in complete agreement with Grant. I detest not only romantic vampires, but also friendly...charming...kind vampires. I'm more of a "stake 'em and move on" type.
The Dread Pirate Grant wrote: "Ive yet to see sex that i thought added to a story."Don't read Endless Love.
I finally finished Master of the Senate: The Years of Lyndon Johnson!!!Ahem.
I started reading Room today. It's...intense. I have the feeling it will end up as one of those books I admire as excellent but didn't really enjoy so much.
I'm currently reading The Left Hand of Darkness, and it's... wow. There are times when I'm completely lost, but I still keep reading because I can tell it's quite well-crafted. I think I'm going to have to re-read this after I'm done to see if I can get everything I missed.
I finished Red yesterday. It ended in a cliffhanger. I'll have to finish the trilogy soon. Then I started Hearts In Atlantis.
I finished up The Black Company last night, and am staring my re-read of House of Chains for the Malzan re-read.I between I squished in Nine Princes in Amber, Old Man's War,Bitter Gold Hearts and The Warded Man.
Ala said: "Kernos, let me know how that Supernatural book is when you're done please.I'm tempted to give them a go myself. "
I'm about 2/3rds through the book. If you're a Supernatural lover, you'll enjoy the book. The interplay between the boys is done well and the story is good. Keith Decandido has written a lot of Star Trek novels and is rather good at doing TV->Novels. It's fun and easy, perfect after a difficult book.
After this I think I'll read some Hal Clement. I've a bunch of his books which are trying to slide off my stacks. Then onto Stormed Fortress
BTW what does PNR mean? There are 79 hits on http://acronymfinder.com from Passenger Name Record to Plug and Run (must have to do with Windows), but nothing related to books.
PNR = ParaNormal Romance: Romance novel crossing over with fantasy, usually with one main character or the other being non-human or meta-human or undead-human.
Library reads I need to get finished before I start anymore of my own books (well part of the library reads): The Magical World of the Inklings: J. R. R. Tolkien, C. S. Lewis, Charles Williams, Owen Barfield, After the Golden Age, The War After Armageddon, The Terrorist Next Door: The Militia Movement and the Radical Right...and more are coming.
Mike (the Paladin) wrote: "Please don't tell me there's a PNR where one of the romantic leads is a zombie..."I haven't found one yet, undead usually = vampires

The actual definition of zombie has nothing to do with actually being dead or alive but instead in a trance without control of your own actions. any movie or book in which there are "monsters" without the capability of concious control should be considered a zombie movie. it has to do with the way that they act, not with the physiological properties of their own bodies. the zombies in 28 Days Later are more zombie than Romero's zombies since patient zero in 28 Days was indeed put into that state through a Clockwork Orange type hypnotism.
the zombie movie in the west has become more of a metaphor for the rapid spread of socio-political change as seen in 3rd world countries, and can be construed as hyper-political. If nothing else it is a metaphor for mass hysteria. anything that uses the typical zombie plot is a zombie movie, undead or not.
