My PNR gets in the way every time!! I swear this stuff is like candy. Total empty calories but it tasts sooooo good!
My problem is that when I eat too much candy, I start to have a gag reflex. I'm in the gag reflex stage.
Aloha wrote: "My problem is that when I eat too much candy, I start to have a gag reflex. I'm in the gag reflex stage."LOL! I wish I could. I guess I'm still pretty new to the genre (just started in late 2009) so I'm still finding plenty of new stuff. Now, I can't deny that a lot of it is crap...but it's quick crap :) I have another 6-8 books that I've read that aren't listed in my shelves (cause I haven't shelved them) that are only PNR, PNRE, or E that I read in 1-2 days. (Sorry Locke).
I have been a PNR addict for about ten years now. I haven't slowed down, but I'm just more selective about which PNR series I read.
Dawn, if you think that's bad. Try being a moderator of a PNR group who can't stomach any more PNR. It's a good thing they're my friends.
In my defense, I am currently reading Dracula.. That's got the PN part, I don't know about the R though..

As I'm reading it I keep thinking about that movie Forgetting Sarah Marshall. Die, die die... I can't. lol...
Here's a clip of it, in case anyone has no idea what I'm talking about:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X5Ztwb...

The thing that I find annoying about YA paranormal is the persistence on every book having a love triangle. Believe it or not, some girls make it through their adolescence without trying to choose between two guys! (stamps feet)Well, I love romance, and paranormal elements is like another layer of icing. There is something about the mix that I find irresistible. I find I don't like the paranormal erotica at all. It's hella creepy to me.
If I were to read PNR again, it would have to be for the gratuitous sex in combination with the paranormal creatures, basically PNR erotica. Something has to make up for me being able to predict every plot line.
I can't stand pining in romance. I'd rather have the fiery chemistry right away, the hard chase, and the sex.
I don't mind pining, so long as it doesn't linger. I prefer that to insta-sex, unless there is a really good reason. I like my love scenes, but I don't really care for emotionless sex in the books I read. Just my personal tastes. No judgments to anyone.I've noticed some of the PNR/polyamorous books are basically like the YA PNR in that the heroine has to choose a guy/love triangle/quad/hexagon/you name it, even though she has sex with most of them. LOL!
Oh I so agree! Who the hell has love triangles?? I always want to slap someone for jerking with other people's emotions. And chaste panting/pining...please! Save me from it. My major rule in love is I like the people who like me. :)
I focus on the weird happenings and gory creatures. I'm not much on the alien intrigues. That seemed to drag on forever. But I love those weird episodes they have in between. Mulder and Scully are both so business-like with each other, I don't care whether they pair up.

In PNR books, I want everything to be hyperreal. I want them to be passionately attracted to each other. I want the guy to crazily pursue her to the end of the earth, even with bodily harm. He's paranormal. He can regenerate a body part. LOL I want her to be particularly adept at dodging him for some reason, although she's passionate about him, too. And when he finally caught her, I want them to have earth-shattering sex.
Mulder is sexy, but Scully is not that sexy to me. That's why I'm not visualizing them getting it on.
I agree with you description Aloha, to the tee! That's good PNR for me. When I read on that's so-so, it's very disappointing. I don't get my PNR endorphin rush!
Nicki and MrsJoseph, I feel the same way. I don't like emotional dishonesty. It's very dishonest to string two people along like that. Deep down, there is one person that you really want to be with. Choose her/him. You can't have your cake and eat it.
I'm the same way about love triangles. I like people who like me. The wishy-washies can go to the competition with my blessing. I dated a guy for a month who was pining away for his ex-girlfriend. When they accidentally ran into each other, she sent him an e-mail that she would like to date him again. He sent me an e-mail saying he would like to date us both. I sent him an e-mail back that he can have her.
Sookie Stackhouse novels are pnr?
Charlaine Harris Lol..the only reason I asked is it kinda of tickles me that I might be a fan of PNR's lmao. I enjoyed the Sookie Stackhouse novels (mostly)
aw how you gonna blow my hopes like that, Thoa :P
You gonna come watch Edwin McCain and Sister Hazel with me on my birthday? ;)
I wish I could. It sounds like a blast! You're going to have to party extra hard for me. People don't know the story, but I'm really thrilled that you're able to spend your birthday in such a special way.
I'll take lots of pictures and hopefully some vid backstage :)
Ahhh, Sookie. Those were good right up until 4 when Eric took center stage (*gag*). I kept reading after that, hoping that they would come around, but no. They just got more and more ridiculous. I haven't read the most recent one yet. I do think they are PNR though.
The only other Harris I've read is Grave Sight and *shudder* for the loved of everything you hold dear, don't read it. It's quite possibly the worst book I've ever read. (Or, OK, tied with Beloved.)
Nicki wrote: "The Sookie series is novel for me but the author's writing style is nothing special."That's kind. Her writing is pretty bad... but I still enjoyed the books enough to give that a pass - until the story got annoying to me. LOL
I'm about 1/4 of the way into
. This is a very interesting and exciting read. I've noticed that it's been Sci-Fis that I've been very happy with. Granted, they're Hugo winners. Maybe I should go and read all the Hugo winners.
I am currently reading Reaper's Gale and re-reading Gardens of the Moon for a discussion in another group I'm in. If that wasn't enough, I polished off Poison Study and The Lies of Locke Lamora.Friday I went on my monthly Nook spree and got The Scar, Return of The Crimson Guard, Daughter of the Forest, and Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell. I also went to the bookstore with the kids and picked up Smoke and Mirrors
I still have Old Man's War andJurgen that I didn't get to last month, so I think that should keep me busy!
I'm finally reading Wolves of the Calla, which I love so far. I'm thinking I'll follow it up with Song of Susannah and The Dark Tower, to finish out the Dark Tower for once and all. Aye, so I shall, thankee-sai.
I am reading The Name of the Wind and I am absolutely loving it. I work in Higher Education and right now I am at the part where Kvothe is seeking admission to the University (view spoiler)
