I just broke down and purchased:
Dark and Stormy Knights
Hexed
Must Love Hellhounds
Hex Appeal
Gunmetal Magic
They should arrive by Wednesday. All of them, I hope.
That's all of the novellas except one. The last one was offered as a free download for a limited amount of time. It doesn't seem to be for sale anywhere (so far) so I have to spend some time digging around to see if I can find a seller.
After that I start on the Curran POVs.
By then it should be Friday. *sigh*
Carol wrote: "Oh, which one are you missing? Magic Gifts?"Yup.
But I'm good for right now. I just got through reading (almost) all of Curran's POVs. I think I can stretch out book 5 until Wednesday then I'll have the novellas to fill in the gap. Plus Gunmetal Magic.
I read the first one some time back Hit Man thinking it might be interesting and got hooked. They're in some ways an odd series (told from the point of view of a hit man).(read the entire series back to back) I was surprised how much they drew me in. I'll look at the series you mentioned, haven't read those.
The Scudder books are fast, good reads, Mike. Here's my review for the first (I just finished book 3 today)http://www.goodreads.com/review/show/...
I'm currently readingThe Hobbit, and The Sum of All Men, which is kind of lame. I'm not even inspired enough by it to write a really funny/scathing review. Also bought Game of Cages, number two in the series. Very excited to crack into it!
I'm into Monster Hunter Alpha. Haven't been able to get into a book for a while. Have been rereading the Amber books with the new audio versions.
After Eldest became a boring slog. I'm glad my current read, The Name of the Wind is phenomenal. It's already on it's way to becoming one of my favorite books of all time and I'm only half way through. I'm listening to the audio and Nick Podehl has been fantastic as the narrator.

Magic SlaysI re-read book 4 last night in order to keep from starting this one.
I opened the cover by mistake this morning.
But my novellas come in tomorrow (all except .05!! Arrrgh!) and so does GM Magic.

Oh, sure... "by mistake." I make those kind of mistakes too. Last night I ate a Peppermint patty by mistake. I thought it was a carrot.
Carol wrote: "Oh, sure... "by mistake." I make those kind of mistakes too. Last night I ate a Peppermint patty by mistake. I thought it was a carrot."ROTFLAMO!!
That's too funny!

Strangely enough I am not reading anything right now as I am totally obsessed with the Olympics!!!!! This book void almost never happens to me!!!!!

I am also readingDead Reckoningby Charlaine Harris.
The Sookie Stackhouse series was the Urban Fantasy series I read. 3 years ago I devoured all the books there were at the time, up to Dead and Gone and then went on to discover other fantasy authors. When Dead in the Family came out I did not like as much anymore. I was not even that eager to read this one, but it was there in the library and the other books I ordered hadn’t come in yet.
Now I remember that it is Charlaine Harris’s humour that made me like this series. There is something that cracks me up on almost every page. I am not crazy for the vampire sex or the fact that Sookie gets beaten up repeatedly only to be healed by vampire blood, that is why I don't like True Blood, but the Southern humour along with all the colorful characters make this series like popcorn for me, once I start I can’t stop but I always feel a little icky afterwards.
I love Charlaine's writing voice, as if she effortlessly transports the reader to small town Louisiana. As a writer, I know this is not "effortless". I am amazed how she can paint her settings with so little words. The books really are candy. Hard to put down and so enjoyable. As to the HBO series, I did not like the first season, but I am really enjoying the later seasons. I'm keen to compare the books to the later HBO seasons and see how much they changed the story. I really like the Marny character, but I don't remember her from the books. Perhaps it has been too long since I read them. I'm glad I picked the books back up again.
Karen wrote: "I really like the Marny character, but I don't remember her from the books. Perhaps it has been too long since I read them. I'm glad I picked the books back up again. "That came from the storyline (view spoiler) I'm actually enjoying how much the series differs from the books.
I'm looking forward to rereading that one. I loved the Marny character and the threat to all the vampires, very intense.
Just finished
My computer has been out of service for 5 days so I'm playing 'catchup' ... I've finished 9 books and need to do reviews!

I only saw part of the first season of True Blood and felt it lacked the offbeat humour that the books have. I will definitely check out the next seasons.
I only watched a couple of shows of the first season, but like you, I did not like it. It was too dark compared to the books. Then I accidentally came across a later season, gave it another try, and now I am really enjoying the show. I suggest you skip to season three and see how you like it.
I am re- reading Jennifer Roberson's Cheysuli chronicles. I think this time, it's because they are trying to kill me at work.I just need an old friend to go home to.
;)
Just getting into Song of the Fairy Queen who is a new author for me. So far a 'classic' plotline but good writing and good characterization.

Now if only I could persuade my husband to watch them with me!
Jalilah, I'm sure your husband will like them. I'm so impressed by how they manage to put so many plot twists into a single episode. Very fast paced and interesting.

Mmm, love me some Kate Daniels & Curran! :D I'm binge reading through Sharon Shinn & Carol Berg novels at the moment.

I finished The Lies of Locke Lamora. I enjoyed the book but for some reason it just took me forever to finish it.Now I'm reading Seed. Enjoying it so far.
The Lies of Locke Lamora was a fun read but I thought the second book of the series was disappointing. Lamora was a cool character. You never quite knew what he was going to do next.
Brenda wrote: "Oh nooo.I'm undone. Karavans 3 / The Wild Road, by Jennifer Roberson is due out Sept 4th."
How lovely to see this excellent series mentioned - I will be zipping out to get the concluding volume, too!
Dead Six, The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier & Clay and Zombie Fallout...all library books.A gluteus maximus load of library books came in at rhe same time...again.
I am taking a break from straight fantasy and reading The Girl Who Chased the Moon by Sarah Addison Allen. It is delightful magical realism. Just what I am in the mood for!
I just re-read one of my favorite YA series, by Megan Whalen Turner. The first book is The Thief. It is only fantasy in that it is imaginary--there is no magic, unless you count gods, but lots of kings and political intrigue.

It can be a tough read and you really have to pay attention, but the more I read it the easier it becomes. I'm really enjoying it.
I've started Sandman Slim and I'm eager to really get into it. Right now I'm focusing on finishing the The Iliad but after that I'll jump back into Sandman. I've also started listening to Earth Unaware on audio, the newest book in the Ender Universe although it takes place during the First Formic War.
