Oh, what a great idea!! I wish I could come. I am convinced that Harper Lee will participate in some way, don't you think? How could she not??

Harper Lee has had a longstanding avoidance of interviews about "To Kill a Mockingbird." I was thrilled to find this article this morning:

OMG!!I went to the Festivities.. and actually met Harper Lee. She is such a quiet woman, who simply nodden politely when I said it was an honor to meet her.
Thanks for the heads up on this Ann!!
Oh my!! I'm so thrilled for you. Tell us more about the event ... Or better yet, please call in a voicemail and we'll air it on an upcoming podcast. 209/867-7323 -- I think you can leave a message up to 5 minutes long.
:)

OH!
MY!
GOSH!
I am so shocked!
Usually I am the optimist, but I didn't think she would show up. Are you coming to the book weekend next April, Jarrod? May I touch you?

What a thrill to attend the celebration. Please call in Jarrod! I would love to hear a few details on the next podcast.Ann, since I live too far away to attend the event, I reread the book as well as your recommendation, Scout, Attikus and Boo. I enjoyed it so much and I am wondering if you know how I might view the documentary on which the book is based?
Thanks too for reminding me of this anniversary, I really didn't find anything locally which was a big disappointment.
Jarrod wrote: "I went to the Festivities.. and actually met Harper Lee"I'm shocked, too. Jarrod, I have to admit that I thought you were likely to be disappointed but didn't want to say so. Your gut feeling was spot on! Now, if you have any premonitions of winning lottery numbers....

Yes, please call in, I want to hear every speck of detail over the meeting! I think I might have fainted if I met her I'd be so excited, either that or cried like a baby! She is one of my favorite contemporary authors, albeit, with just the one book.
Just received my bookeporter.com newsletter (a great book resource with reviews and very different from BOTNS...any way an interview with Mary McDonagh Murphy regarding Scout, Boo and Atticus will be on CSPAN 2 this weekend @ 8AM Sat & Sun and 2:30 PM on Sunday. To Kill A Mockingbird is one of my favorite,if not my favorite book of all time and I am enjoying all of these 50th Anniversary celebrations.

Thank you so much Kate. I would have missed this without your note. We are on the west coast, so will watch this interview Sunday. Also, I've subscribed to bookreporter. Another treat!

Yes, Kate, thank you so much. If I were home in Ohio I would not been able to see this show, but I am at my sister's in NC and she has this station. My brother-in-law recorded it in Hi Def for me this a.m. and I am watching it as I type this.
I already get bookreporter, but since I'm visiting my sis, I probably would not have read that e-mail closely enough to have realized the show was on.

After hearing Ann talk about the 'To Kill a Mockingbird' event in Monroeville, Alabama on the podcast, I was shocked to learn that Monroeville is about 45 minutes away from my house. So I was wondering if anyone from here is going to be attending the event over the course of the weekend. Maybe we could have a Meet-up??
Thanks
Jarrod
