well...very simplistically, the Regulators were a group of colonists who did not like ways in which justice was served under British rule and took the law into their own hands. So, as I understand it, they were the precursors of the patriots. At that time though, Jamie was still acting as a Loyalist even though he knew he would eventually switch sides. Plus he didn't like the methods the Regulators used. I'm sure the Regulation is historically accurate because DG's research is impeccable. Aaron Beardsley was the old trader who knocked his wife's teeth out (Frannie), then had a stroke when he was chasing her up the ladder into the attic. She just let him lie there for a long time and he was lying in his own filth, etc. when Jamie and Claire found him. Jamie was able to communicate with him, through eye blinking I believe, and he indicated that he would rather die than attempt to live in his condition (after Claire had given her medical opinion of his condition so that he gave informed consent), so Jamie mercy killed him. It WAS a disturbing situation, and the farm was spooky place which according to Frannie was haunted, I think by the ghost of Aaron's first wife. I hope this is all accurate because I am relying on my memory. Turned out that Frannie was pregnant by an escaped slave and was terrified of what Aaron might do when she gave birth to a baby of mixed race. She abandoned the baby girl when she was born and Jamie and Claire took her to Brownsville where the family adopted her. I think that's it in a nutshell.
Why do Claire and Jamie marry other people. I understand before they got together again but afterwards I can not recall.

Cindy wrote: "Why do Claire and Jamie marry other people. I understand before they got together again but afterwards I can not recall."Claire was married to Frank before she met Jamie. She went back and stayed with him for Bree. Jamie married Loaghaire because Claire was gone and he needed someone to take care of to keep going.

First, when they talk about the Regulators and the Regulation...can someone give me a summary of what exactly that was about? I remember that it was a big part of The Fiery Cross, but I just can't remember why exactly the war happened, and who the "good guys" and "bad guys" were.
Second, when Jamie, Ian and Fergus question Lionel Brown after they rescue Claire, they then tell Claire what they found out. Jamie asks her if she remembers Aaron Beardsley's old place. I remember them coming across a house at some point in one of the books, and I think I remember it being a very bad, almost disturbing, situation in the house but I'm not sure. Can someone please explain that part to me?
Thanks so much! :)
