I actually have the Shadow series in my TBR. I'm such a dork about reading things in order, and that series is a spinoff of her Blood series, which I haven't finished yet. But I still bought them all, b/c I adore Huff, so I know I'll love them. *sheepish grin*

That one's on my re-read list for sure. AVA is on that list too, Josh. :-)

Aw. I'm glad!

OMG, Kindle is crazy awesome! Got mine last week (the same day my first bk came out - oh happy day, LOL) and I've been in love since. Granted, transferring books from the laptop to the Kindle was a whole lot of no-fun, but you wouldn't believe how much easier the Kindle is on your eyes. And I can sprawl again! Woo hoo!!!

Get one as soon as you can. You won't regret it. If anything, you'll kick yourself for waiting so long. I certainly am.

message 404: by Lissa (new)

Lissa (parisbvamp) Okay so I've been rereading Langley's Regency series. (which is hilarious if you haven't read it) I'm thinking goodreads needs a reread shelf. Since I've reread Josh's TGWYS and Langley's My Fair Captain in the past week. Not sure why I'm so slow with the ebooks. I think it's cause my Sony is a small screen and I have to page down three times to read a whole page.

I will start reading the Englor Affair again tonight. What's on everyone else's list?

message 405: by Lori K (new)

Lori K I'm reading I Spy Something Bloody :). Don't know how I got away with not reading it before now.

Listening to Cry Destiny during the commute. I only have to go into the office twice a week tho (1 hour each way) so audiobooks take me awhile.

message 406: by Lissa (new)

Lissa (parisbvamp) Now working on Grave's End (which is a true haunting story) and Infected:Prey e-book, which actually looks like two books. First one being Infected, second one being Prey. Can't read the haunting one before bed. haha

Josh (joshlanyon) | 23709 comments Mod
Hope you enjoy it, Lori! There's a little follow up story for it called I Spy Something Wicked -- last year's Halloween offering, come to think of it!

I do love a genuinely scary book -- so long as everything turns out well in the end. I find scary ending in gross tragedy just leaves me flat. Let us know how it turns out, Lissa.

message 409: by Lissa (new)

Lissa (parisbvamp) Grave's End was sort of a let down. Scary in the beginning and then everything is solved in like two pages from some psychic lady who comes in and no one really knows what she's doing. I'll keep searching for a good scary Halloween read.

The Demon Inside felt sort of that way too, since the main character lost to a ghost he couldn't really confront. It was creepy though. I'd like a ghost to do all the cleaning and cooking.

The one I just finished today Infected: Prey, while not scary, was one of the best I've read in awhile. This book has no explicit sex and does fine without it. The characters are likable and story believable, it was great. Reminded me of that feeling when finishing the first Adrien English book. Gotta have more. Need to know more about the characters.

Now I need to find something else to read.

Bubbles Hunty Honest & Direct Opinions (vapidbubbles) I am about to start Jack My Lantern Gay Halloween Erotica by Rusty Saber Jack My Lantern: Gay Halloween Erotica

I couldn't resist the title, just like with A Wet Dream on Elm Street

Bubbles Hunty Honest & Direct Opinions (vapidbubbles) They are both so-so. not bad but not good either.

message 413: by Lissa (new)

Lissa (parisbvamp) Bummer. I think I will reread the first book in the Bay City Paranormals even though it gives me nightmares and I have to sleep with the lights on.

message 414: by Bubbles Hunty (new)

Bubbles Hunty Honest & Direct Opinions (vapidbubbles) i haven't read Oleander House(that's the one you meant right)it is o my to read list. I will have to move it up closer to the top

message 415: by Lissa (new)

Lissa (parisbvamp) Yep, that's the one. So creepy. The rest of the series, thankfully, is not quite as scary.

message 416: by Lissa (new)

Lissa (parisbvamp) Okay so just finished Drawn Together by Z.A. Maxfield and I have to say I loved it. Sweet, funny and a complete story without overdone girly men. Haha Though Yamane gets pretty quirky sometimes. Sad that I put off reading that one for so long.

Got two hardcore Josh reads for the weekend Don't Look Back and Old Poison. I need to work on my own stuff to get out to betas, I keep thinking if the stress will someday end at home I can get back to it. But I guess that's why we read, right? Escapism.

message 417: by Bubbles Hunty (new)

Bubbles Hunty Honest & Direct Opinions (vapidbubbles) Thanks, Lissa I needed something light and sweet to read. Just finished The Way You Say My Name I spent 60% percent of it crying so I need something a little more happy, I absolutely loved the book it was just sad

message 418: by Lissa (new)

Lissa (parisbvamp) I know what you mean. I have to steer a wide path around those sort of leave you in tears books. I'm always looking for fun reads though. I'm trying to get through Josh's backlist before the next rush of pieces come through. While reading stuff in between. I'll have to do more searching this weekend for what to read next weekend.

I agree, [book:At Piper's Point
is my favorite of Ethan's books to date.

I enjoyed all of the Smithfield books, too, but I likedCatch Me If You Can even more. There's just something about Ce's big Italian family that tugs on my heart strings. The story is typically wacky Lb, though. The sequel to this book should be good, too.

Lots of very good new books to look forward to in the next several months!

I find that kind of story annoying. Not a dynamic that entertains me.

Great! Who wrote it?

I've sure done my share of escapist reading.

I don't think you can wait for the stress to go away -- unless it's extreme and unusual stress. I find that I just have to write around it the best I can.

If you're in the mood for fantasy I'd read Archer's Heart and Strange Fortune together. Well, not TOGETHER, but one after the other. I think they make a good pairing.

The Petit Morts are fun but very different -- as a matter of fact, I am reading the next batch now. Trying to, anyway!

Andrea Speed wrote Infected: Prey I am anxiously awaiting the next in the series.

The Bay City books are great. Other than the first book not all that scary, but great relationship dynamics (except for the one with Dean and Sommer which just didn't work for me) And the new spin off with Bo's kid Love, Like Ghosts was great. Again spooky but not scary. Loved the relationship of these two college kids.

Oleander House, the first book is my favourite. It's scary, has an interesting story and the characters are enjoyable. I have to say I lost interest with the series. However, Oleander House is one I will read again.

I'm curious about MONSTERS.

So...it's not books, but everyone's favorite Halloween movie(s)? Name the top three (any order is okay).

The Changeling
Carnival of Souls
Wizard of Oz (haven't seen it in years, but it used to be a tradition)

Hmm off the top of my head (and it's more than 3)

1. A Nightmare Before Christmas
2. The Legend of Sleepy Hollow (any version, my high school was named after one of the characters so I have to watch it)
3.Salem's Lot - Original, still scares the Hell out of me - it's the damn scene with the vamp scratching at the window
4.Alien
5.Any Hitchcock (Shadow of a Doubt, Rear Window, Torn Curtain, Trouble With Harry, Psycho, The Birds, Frenzy)
6. Bell, Book and Candle
7.Ghost Story
8. Poltergeist
9. Phantom of the Opera
10. Nosferatu
11. Misery

I actually shy away from scary-scary movies, dating back to the time I saw Children of the Corn when I was a kid and had screaming nightmares nightly for about 6 months afterwards.

That said, I do have some favorite Halloween-themed/creepy films:

1. The Nightmare Before Christmas (absolutely #1, tops the list, hands down)
2. Sweeney Todd (haven't seen the Burton version yet, I'm talking about the Angela Lansbury stage version)
3. Sleepy Hollow (Burton again, hmmm...)
