Thanks, Kaje! I do want to read their works, I do want to read, just don't have the time to read much. So I pick my friends' work which I already know the quality & voice. Kinda like comfort read. lol

I already have the stories in my head for the 2 calls. The first is done, only need edit it. But I am at the stage where I hate it now. lol.

The second is a long way to go. But they're both in my head and I really really want to write them. Anyway, I'm going to post the 1st part for the 1st story in a few mins at group.

I always hate my stuff after I write it. Doesn't mean it won't turn out to be good but yeah, that's the time to let someone else have a look at it.

Well, I'm glad too, but I wouldn't have posted if that were the case. Of course, some of those authors might be silent lurkers here, it just occurs to me. But really, they're all mostly really big names and successful and laughing all the way to the bank and I doubt anyone cares a rat's ass what I think. At least I hope they don't. Surely I'm not the only exhausted and peculiar reader around here who couldn't get into their book :). I really do hope people don't take my input too seriously.

It'll be awesome to write your love story and turn it to M/M romance. LOL. Maybe you should write it, Anne.

message 4209: by Anne (new)

Anne Tenino (annetenino) | 3156 comments Well, I want to read Hot Head, but I'm afraid to. Although I think Damon could do it justice. It's just when you know how it's really supposed to be and then you read something that's inaccurate... It's annoying. Also, firefighter culture on the east coast is very different than on the west coast, so some if it I'm not familiar with.

Thank you, Mandy! I have two more books in the series about 80% done, but we have to see how sales (or interest in more books) go. Apparently M/M sci-fi doesn't sell well historically.

If you want to register your opinion, you might visit Dreamspinner's GR group, on the thread someone (?) started for 18%. http://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/6...

I'm reading 18% Grey. I am very very fond of Sister Benigna. I can say she'll get bright future. Also, she might be a little bit like me. Only a little. And certainly not the part when she wants to watch them fuck.

Becky (fibrobabe) | 1052 comments Just finished the latest Sookie Stackhouse book. It was disappointing. Ghost Story was much better.

I also read Hard Fall the other day, which was quite good. Joe's struggle between his sexuality and his religious beliefs was handled seriously. I would have liked to get a better handle on Kabe, but there's a sequel, so I hope it will happen there.

message 4221: by Kaje (new)

Kaje Harper I've burned out on Sookie; too many characters and it just stopped holding my attention (I really liked the first few.) Hard Fall is a favorite of mine; I'm saving the sequel for when I really need a distraction.

Cheryl | 232 comments I just started Shades of Gray today and two chapters in I'm completely hooked. I'm so happy about this because I feel like I haven't finished any book I started for the past few weeks (except for two by Josh) and was actually thinking maybe I needed to take a break from m/m for a bit. Hopefully this one holds up to my high expectations.

''Shades'' is one of the best things I ever read! Enjoy the experience!

For my part last night I got hooked on
Knight Errant by K.D. Sarge
and I read it from 10 p.m to 4 a.m. Sadly around dawn I noticed I wouldn't manage to read it in one go... I hope the ending doesn't disappoint me.

I thought James Buchanan's writing was even better in Spin Out. It's quite outstanding for a sequel.

It seems like people either love Bareback or think it's too long (and has too much sex). I loved it, and the sequels. I usually am not a big fan of angst, either, but that book worked for me.

Cleon Lee | 2235 comments Reading reviews for Chris Owen's Barebacks really show me that at least more than half readers love my fics, then it's fine even though 1/3 seem to hate it. There are several books that piss me off but they're best sellers. And some books I like seem to be buried and not many know about them. It almost made me want to create a blog to review obscured but high quality books. LOL. But I can't commit to such things, esp now when I am swamped with my own writing.

I know! There are always more good ideas than time or energy to execute them.

I really enjoyed Bareback, and I have the sequel in reserve for when I need a treat. I can understand why some people don't like it-- it really does have a lot of sex in it. But I liked Jake and Tor so much, and really rooted for the two of them to work out their problems.

Tracy (tracykitn) | 461 comments *whimper* I can't concentrate enough to read anything today! I'm in GA and it's muggy and hot and the AC isn't working. And I have dishes and laundry to do, and I just can't face any of it!

message 4232: by Kaje (new)

Kaje Harper Dump the dishes, grab a book and go somewhere with free AC and seats (like the mall food court). It's the weekend, after all. Or take the laundry to a laundromat for a change if there's a clean one with AC. You can sit and read as the clothes get clean and have the perfect excuse for doing nothing else.

message 4233: by Tracy (new)

Tracy (tracykitn) | 461 comments My DH has the boys out on the boat fishing, but the girl decided to stay home with me. Only place in town with the AC and a place to sit is fast food, and I don't think my tush can take that for very long! I'm just muddling through and dealing till Monday, when the new fan motor gets in and can be installed. And I'm browsing through the HSD stories...they don't require too much time and attention! (also, I love oscillating fans. I love that word, oscillating. I think I should maybe consider eating something.)

Emanuela ~plastic duck~ (manutwo) | 1768 comments I read Nicole Kimberling's Primal Red and I think I have to thank someone else again in this group for the rec. It was a revelation. The writing was great, it's something you realize suddenly because good writing tends to disappear before your eyes.

I'm reading AM Riley's Immortality is the Suck. I like flawed characters and Adam wrote the book about bad boy.

oooh, popsicles! I like green and purple and orange! (and sometimes I make my own out of green Kool-aid. My favorite is chocolate pudding layered with frozen raspberries in a homemade popsicle mold. ......hmmm.....)

Kaje Harper Cleon wrote: "some books I like seem to be buried and not many know about them. It almost made me want to create a blog to review obscured but high quality books. ..."

Maybe we should create a thread somewhere, here or in M/M for little-known books that deserve more recognition, where people could post such things (might have to define "little-known" to keep it from being just overwhelmed; maybe books with less than X number of ratings on Goodreads?). Easier than a blog for Cleon but more exposure than just rating a book on your own site?

I think you have to analyze why readers dislike certain books. Sometimes it's a kneejerk reaction to a certain theme or event within the story, but sometimes it's unique to the story and the writing, so a different approach could result in a different reader reaction.
