lol, June is confusing enough as it is. Let's not make it worse. But someone remember to post this up there next month!

message 2902: by mc (new)

mc | 1308 comments I started Three Wrong Turns in the Desert but just haven't had the time to really start a new book. Hopefully this weekend I can give it some real reading time.

Cheryl, I'm in the same boat. Just a crazy, unexpected week, and I've read nothing but the mail, and I'm ridiculously behind even in my emails. I'm hoping to get to Three Turns on Saturday, though I realize that means I'll probably miss most of the conversation (you all do it on Saturday, right?)

I read it, but my Saturday is filling up really fast. I think we just begin discussing it on Saturday but the discussion can go on for days.

lol, I'm working Saturday and then doing an online chat in the middle of my day, I think, so I don't know how much I'll be able to add, but I'm sure the convo will go on for a few days at least. This is why I took notes on the few things I wanted to remember to mention.

If you read it, I want to know your honest opinion -- I think it's one of those books that has good points and bad points.

The conversation will go on for however long there's interest, so don't look at the thread till you've finished reading!

message 2921: by ns (new)

ns (vedi) Candice,

Thanks for the Prisoner (Megan Derr) rec -- I finally did get hold of it and was able to read it while on the road and really loved it. It turned out to be the prequel to Bound (or rather, Bound is the sequel to Prisoner, although occurring generations later).

Terrific writing from Derr as usual, lovely story, exciting plot and original world building. I think reading them in reverse order actually helped me enjoy the first book more.

Arggh, over 600 posts in this forum across all threads since I was last online and no time to wade through the backlog...

I already bought this book because I'd heard it was good. Now I just have to find the time to sit back & read it. I'm doing mainly audio books right now so I can get stuff done.

Rural India, at the moment. Local time is 4:00am. It feels like the world ended a week ago.

mc | 1308 comments Buying note!

I just noticed several used copies of the complete Brandsetter mysteries on Amazon. Given how much Josh and some of you have raved about this author, I just placed my order. There are several left at what I consider a relatively good price.

Hope this is of value.

mc | 1308 comments Suhi, keep checking back - sometimes they have UK sellers. The last time I had checked, all the used books were at ridiculous(ly expensive) prices, and just yesterday, all these new ones popped up.

Yes, I've checked on the UK site too. There wasn't "The Complete Brandstetter", but there were a few separate books (used) very cheap, but still the total price including shipping was impossible.
I'll keep checking, thank you! <3

The romance is very low-key in the Brandstetter books, but if you love mysteries, his are beautifully written. Classic PI stuff. Both in structure and style.

message 2939: by [deleted user] (last edited May 22, 2011 10:40AM) (new)

Well the world didn't end, and I figured here in Ethiopia we'd be the first to go, what with all the famine and locusts plagues that are daily occurrences here...

but what did happen this weekend for me was some awesome reading...read that great novel I shared about yesterday and today I've spent the day with S.J Frost's rockstars :O) Just finished Conquest (Conquest, #1) by S.J. Frost and immediately starting No Fear (Conquest, #2) by S.J. Frost

I can't have them *sniffles* Oh well, I still can read Nicole Kimberling, Donald Strachey, and of course, Partners in Crime.

message 2944: by [deleted user] (new)

Cleon, if you don't mind very little romance and like historical fiction, check "Lord John Grey" series by Diana Gabaldon ;)

Cleon Lee | 2235 comments Suhi wrote: "Cleon, if you don't mind very little romance and like historical fiction, check "Lord John Grey" series by Diana Gabaldon ;)"

I don't enjoy historical fiction that is set after Middle Ages, especially during World War I or II. It's just personal preference that I can't explain why. I don't even enjoy Regency romance, even though it seems to be the most popular sub-genre for romance.

message 2948: by Becky (new)

Becky (fibrobabe) | 1052 comments I'm weird about my settings. In m/f I like Regency quite a bit, but I find a lot of contemporary stuff awkward or ridiculous. In m/m I love contemporary and have little interest in reading historical. I have several paranormal series with m/f romantic elements that I love, but I don't have much interest in paranormal m/m.

Maybe it has something to do with really starting out with Josh's books. I'm looking for that same-but-different reading experience, and at some point I'll branch out into other sub-genres. But for me right now it's pretty much all contemporary, all the time.

I feel exactly the same way. I always figured it had something to do with what floats my boat. I have different expectations for what makes a romance good when it's m/m than when it's m/f.

Emanuela ~plastic duck~ (manutwo) | 1768 comments I'm reading a historical with (probably) paranormal elements Lover's Knot. I have some The Turn of the Screw feelings. I am liking it.
