What else are you reading? (June 2010 - May 2013) *closed*
I finished and really enjoyed both Hell Cop anthologies. All the stories are very good, which is rare in an anthology, IMO.
I really enjoyed those too -- all the stories and in both anthos. It is rare!

I started it, but couldn't get into it. But, I've heard good things about it.

I am kinda wary of reading Amy Lane because most people say her books are angst filled. I am not in the mood for angst right now. So I've been avoiding her books. Real life stressful is enough. lol. Hawtness on the other hand...

Not all her books are angst filled. She has a wonderful set of novellas that are mostly sweet with just a hint of angst (I can give you a list, if you'd like). Stay away from Keeping Promised Rock if you want to avoid angst. It is OMG wrist-slashing angst filled.

Yeah Edina I LOVED Kindred Hearts, and I'm looking forward to whatever she writes next...

I have a hard time picking up fairy tale books like this so I probably would never get this one. But I wonder if a book is a MMM romance, why don't they put that in the blurb somewhere? I don't know why you'd have to find that out from reading reviews. Is that considered a spoiler?

I agree, when it's MMM I definitely want to know before I buy.
Oh I always want to know it's mmm before I buy. Which is why I'm kinda mad (along with a few others) about the Deviations series which wasn't mmm and swore it would never be until the last book.

Yeah M/M/M has to come very well referenced for me to read...any menage really...I took me months to get the courage to read Vintage Affair and it was JOSH!!

Well, Lauraadriana, you just told me something I didn't know about the book! lol. But that's good to know going into it. I don't have it yet, but because it's Josh, I fully plan to get it at some point.
Oh yeah, and I just ordered Someone Killed His Editor the other day! Along with the much anticipated GhosTV in print, Dr. Fell volume 1, and one about werewolves, which I've already forgotten the title. lol.
Sadly, I need to finish two YA books this weekend for work, so I won't be reading M/M. Though the first YA book (Scars by Cheryl Rainfield) is truly fricken amazing! Dark, scary, and I can't put it down!

"We should shower together. We could save the whales with our sexy water conservation effort."
This quote is made of WIN!

Some I've seen mentioned recently whom I've never read are Ginn Hale, SJ Frost and Tamara Allen (and Megan Derr). What book(s)/series would you recommend that I start with each? I'd like to branch out. I'm pretty broad in my interests, and don't mind some angst if it suits the story.
I already have Three Turns - getting ready for my first 'book club' next week!

All of Nicole's stories have the same sort of humor. It's just funny and snarky and wonderful. :)

And feel better...it's a miserable day here. Get a heating pad and something warm to drink with a cookie. Cookies are medicinal, if used properly.

I would recommend if not everything but most everything by the authors you've already listed. Megan Derr writes a lot of fairytale type fantasy. They are usually sweet and cute with very little angst. Ginn Hale's story usually have a bite to them. I haven't read SJ at all, so cannot comment there.
Try the anthology series Hell Cop and Hell Cop 2. The three authors in the anthology all write very well and distinctively. Nicole Kimberling is another fantastic writer who has a bevy of great books under her name.

After Nicole's book I definitely feel better. lol. I've slept and used a plastic water bottle filled with warm water to help with the pain.
I usually only read yaoi in fanfic. The thing that I don't like in most yaoi is how feminine/ weak the bottom is.

Then she's definitely on to-collect author list! :)

Yup! Definitely on my to-buy list. But I also want Ginn Hale! decisions ... decisions...

I do like some yaoi a lot. The Japanese element is particularly interesting to me, given that I've studied the language a bit. Of course, those books weren't part of the curriculum.
Hope you feel better soon Cleon! I'm glad you found a good book to help cheer you up! It sounds like I need to check it out!
My original goal this weekend was to finish two YA books for work. I finished Scars by Cheryl Rainfield last night, and it was amazing! So dark and scary, but I couldn't put it down. And yeah, the main character is a lesbian. Her older gay friend was an awesome guy, and the glimpse of his boyfriend made me want to read a story just about them! lol.
I was going to read Delirium by Lauren Oliver, but it's too much like Matched, which I read about two or three months ago, so while I'd well written, I feel like I've already read it!
Which leaves me with one evening and a day before GhosTV shows up on my doorstep. Wonder what book I'll get lost in before Monday? Hmmm.... This next one needs to be m/m for sure. After Three Wrong Turns, I need more!!! lol.

Reading
with Sylvia today. It was MLR freebe last week I think. So far I think we are both surprised by this book...

Good surprise or bad surprise? I've read review for this book and it got 5 stars review on Jessewave.

So far for me good...the first chapter DID NOT read well, but after chapter four it's like a different book. The theme of revenge is forgiveness is presented really well. There are some things that I'm a bit unsure about but that's probably because I'm not used to First Nations spirituality. Also the romance aspect is not coming across, maybe there isn't any?

Thanks, Merith - a few of those are paperback only, but that doesn't mean they won't go on the list. Let me add, it is a hand-written list. I have actually gone through this thread and jotted down nearly all the authors and books mentioned here. I am clearly insane.
I only wish I could be as devoted to cleaning my apartment, which is revolting.
Also, I'm sorry I didn't reply right away - I still haven't figured out how to see new comments (I do click on new, but sometimes, some replies don't show up).
I actually am good with technology, generally, but somethings take me a while to figure out. I guess I should offer a blanket apology to all the posts I haven't responded to.

Which books can you only find in paperback form? I've got everything in ebook form (though a couple of Megan's are out of print).
It's a good idea to keep track in one place what books and authors you want to read. On paper is a good way. I use ARe's wishlist. They tend to have all authors and most all books by those authors. I can still pick up the books elsewhere, but have a logical location to house my list. :)

Nope - All Romance eBooks. They have most of Megan's books listed. I think there's one or two that are 'out of print'.

This happens to me all the time. I figured it's a sight glitch, but I suppose it could be operator error.

The blurb sounds interesting. Let us know how you like it when you are finished.

That's a great idea.
Or maybe not. :-D Not sure I need to buy more books until I read the library I've already collected.

LOL. I can imagine.
Anyway, I am curious how you and your SO managed your collections. Do you share your ebooks with each other or you buy for yourself? If you do, how do you avoid overlap buying?

I do the same, and it's SO long at this point, I may never be able to put a dent in it...I also have a monkey-wrench in-my-tbr-shelf :O)...those are the ones that I see, buy and read instantly...I think it's one of my favorite lists, I've been rarely disappointed with my impulse purchases :O)

We haven't figured out how to share his Nook and my Kindle yet. As for the physical books...He's got a backstairs porch turned into an office lined with bookshelves. I've got an upstairs porch glassed in and turned into a library lined with bookshelves. And then we have stacks of books in every room. And boxes of books in the garage. I mean...as in stacks and stacks of boxes. It's kind of nutty. In fact, I warned him that if the boxes in the garage didn't go, I would.
However, both the boxes and I remain. :-D

It's so hard to part with books, because of our work every couple of years we move countries and must give away a lot of the books we've collected during that time, its always traumatic for me...My SO got me Kindle after this last move because he said he couldn't bear another book breakdown...we're moving back to the US in 8 weeks after three years here in Ethiopia, and I've already started hiding books in suitcases and random boxes :O)

Awww. I can relate. My mom threw away our manga collection when we moved, and me and my sister cried ourselves silly. Most of them are not published or available anymore. sigh... weeps...

That's TERRIBLE. My dad still bemoans his mother tossing his comic books. We're talking comics from the forties. :-(

It's awful...about three years ago we moved form Honduras to here, and by mistake my SO gave away my 20 year old copy of One Hundred Years of Solitude, which was full of notes on the margin, and I had read a million times...I cried for days over that book :O(

And I am talking Waki Yamato manga! And Rose of Versailles and Pansy. They're classic! *wails* No manga now even come close to their artwork and stories.

But then the problem with that is the inevitable eventual clean out. You can't just dig and toss, you actually have to look at everything because it might just be valuable. :P
As for reading -- I just finished Mexican Heat (luuuuuvvvvved it!) and right before that the Charlie Cochrane book that was a freebie last month or so - "Lessons in Love". Both were great reads. :D
Josh, that's so cute!
Yup, my livingroom is packed with books! I've run out of room for my m/m collection, and I don't know where to put them, since I don't want there to be piles on the floor. Right now though, everything is still in the crates I bought for bookshelves while I was in college and grad school. I'm looking to move those into the bedroom for storage for other things, and get real bookcases for the livingroom. I think that'll give me more space for m/m!
And my coworker keeps telling me I need to learn to let go! No way. With books I don't like, sure. No problems there, but so many are books I'd reread a dozen times that the library doesn't have. And who can run to the library at midnight for a craving of Josh Lanyon?!?! lol.
Besides, if the largest thing I collect the most of is books, I figure that's a good thing. When I die, they'll be easy to throw out, simply by donating them to people who need books to read. I like that idea a lot.
As for my to-buy list, I created a shelf on goodreads here that's called "need-to-own", so if I don't have one, it goes there. I also use the wish list feature on Amazon to keep track of books I want to read. My list is so long, I wouldn't be able to keep track of it on paper anymore. I'd need a notebook, and this way I can change my mind about something without messing up the list, having titles crossed out. And, I can check it while I'm at work without having to bemoan the fact that my list is at home or something. I love that.
I also have a shelf that lists what books I own and what books got borrowed from the library, so I know where I can get them, or that I don't own it if I ever want to read it again. The library shelf also includes books I've read and donated to the library, or books borrowed from friends too.

NS: Thank you. I did finally find my copy; much relief.
I thought this work by Derr was more disciplined than so much else she has done--not self-indulgent, if you will. So much of her writing involves family or friends or an environment where love and sweetness are so fulsomely delivered that I can't get the taste out of my mouth. I like feel-good, but if it becomes excessive, then I am, unwillingly, taken out of the story.
However, there is little enough of that tendency in Prisoner that I happily overlook it where it may appear. It's like, for this story, Derr held out for something better. Obviously, this is my totally subjective opinion. Let me know what you think when you've read it yourself.
I took your advise and got Bound. Reading Lanyon's 2nd Moriarty story right now (Just got my first Kindle!), so after that.
