Hey there, good to see you're back :)
Hey there, good to see you're back :)
Just finished Paris A to Z by Marie Sexton. Really loved it. 4 stars from me. This can be considered as a good ending to the Coda series, although I'm not sure if this is the end or not

I was thinking the same thing. Many of the unresolved issues from the previous stories have been taken care of, but... there seems like there's something more. Maybe Ang's reconciliation with his mother? Jon's father finding someone to settle down with? (and wouldn't it be a hoot if it was either Matt or Jared's mother!?!?)
I really enjoyed the story. Clicked on 5 stars, though think it was more a 4.5 (no halvesies on GR). I enjoyed the story so much, I had to go back and read Promises and A to Z again! (I thought about Letter Z and Strawberries, but since I'd just read them both less than a month ago, I won't).
It'll be interesting to see if Marie will write one more and if so, what the conflict there will be about.
Also, so cute that Zach is just as clueless now as he was in A to Z!!
Just started
, and am enjoying it a lot so far. I adore "First Time" stories, and this one qualifies. :)
Merith wrote: "Also, so cute that Zach is just as clueless now as he was in A to Z!! '..."hahaha I sooo agree; Zack is really cute and I used to think that he deserves some1 better than Angel u know.
But after this book, I think Angel is becoming- atleast trying to become a person worthy of Zack :D

Heather C wrote: "Hmm. The ones in the anthologies, are they available as stand alones?"Hi Heather C, only a few. I've linked to them where possible (when they were available as stand-alones) in my bibliography.
I'm happy (and surprised) to see so many nook users -- hadn't suspected. I'll add a nook availability column when I can..

Thanks to Jperceval for the link.

That would be awesome (doesn't need to even be free).

I've updated the bibliography at http://lanyontide.com to include Nook availability as well. I've pointed to individual stories where they were available, or the next best alternative - any anthology or collection it was in if available.
Strangely enough, Fictionwise doesn't seem to carry Fair Game or Snowball in Hell, nor any of the collections.

Ok, so I finished the final book in the Deviations series last night, and for once, I wrote a rather lengthy review on here about it. Check it out if you want the full thing.
***SPOILERS*** I only gave it three stars, while the first three got all five. Basically, it was magic. That's what happened. I LOVED the scene where Noah answers the door to Phan's father in full uniform so the guy has no idea he's a sub and thinks he's there on official business. That gave me a little more cop stuff to moon over. However, that was also the scene where the magic happens and everything is magically better. At the BEGINNING of the book. Oiy. lol. Yeah, I know the major problems in the book mentioned on the back cover don't happen until near the end (WTF?!), but they're quickly dealt with because of the magic at the start of the book. lol.
There were some other great scenes, but it was mostly just sex and talking. ...yeah... it could have been sooo much better. ***END SPOILERS***
I'm now on a temporary break from m/m and I'm reading a great nonfic book called "From Baghdad With Love", which is about a puppy found by Marines who then try to get him back to the states when they're not supposed to have one in the first place. It's either secretly get him to the states, put him out on the streets to survive alone, or kill him. It's a crazy story, but I'm loving it so far!

So I was trying to read Dash and Dingo, but honestly, it failed to hold my attention. I got more than halfway, three-quarters in, I think.I don't know if it was because the previous two books I had just read were so intense and brilliant and upsetting or what (A Separate Peace, John Knowles, If the Dead Rise Not (Bernard Gunther #6, Philip Kerr).
Or possibly the fact that I had the psycops line-up next to read. Whatever it was, I fled Dash and Dingo and picked up Among the Living and loved it, loved it, loved it. So I know I'm going to finish the psycops series before I come back and take another stab at Dash and Dingo (I'll save my rant for the monthly discussion thread).
You're going to fly through the Psycops series. After reading the first one I just went and downloaded all of them. I'm on the last book already and so, so sad about that.

I never cared for Phan even when he was first introduced in Book 1. He always reminded me of a fly buzzing around your head that you just kept trying to swat away. Letting him into the D/s reationship of Tobias and Noah on a permanent basis in this book is what ruined the dynamic of their 3-book journey for me. It was such a complete surprise and disappointment.

LOL!!! Yep, definitely a "si" for me too. Though I'm still patiently waiting for the print version of book four.
I decided to skip the book this month since it didn't seem all that interesting to me. I'm hoping next month's choice will be more interesting for me.

Well, I won't say I hated Phan that much, but he definitely got in the way, that's for sure. Which is why I kinda wish they'd given him his own series. I might have read that. He was cute, but definitely not what Tobias needed, as we can tell now, and clearly Tobias wasn't good for him either, as we can now tell. But, magically, Noah balances the two out somehow, by working well for both of them and that's apparently all that's needed to get the two back together again, even though Tobias swore it would never happen. Ah well.

On another note... I finished the book about the Iraqi dog, Lava, last night night, and this morning I picked up another nonfic about a working dog named Slugger.
Of course, it was a natural progression from one to the other, especially when the first was such a short read.
lol, I'm such a sap. On my way into work this afternoon I couldn't help but watch the cute gay couple walking in front of me holding hands... now I'm wishing I'd chosen another m/m romance novel to bring with me. *sigh* They really were cute...

I just bought 5 books again from FW. Someone please kill me now or pray to the M/M Gods to bless my business this week...I just found out that there are Asian historical M/M books! Of course I have to check them out. It's research material, so it's tax deductible purchases right? lol (there is no such thing in my country though)
If anyone is curious, I bought
,
, The Red Thread of Forever Love by Nicole Kimberling,
,
. Don't ask me when I will have time to read these ...

I'm telling you, we all need a 12 step program! I have this back log of books to read and yet, just last night I picked up another 6! 6! I tell you. It's either a sickness or an addiction. I just have to have more and more and more...
I liked No Good Deed, Lynn Lorenz's books are very similar in plot, character and action. It's a warm, familiar formula. You can't beat a Nicole Kimberling book! I love her writing. :) I haven't even heard of the other two stories, Fall of State and Two Hearts Two Spirits before. Are these the Asian historicals you mentioned? You'll have to let us know how good (or not) they are.

"This is why an ereader with wifi is such a life saver. As long as you've got the reader with you, you've got an endless supply of whatever kind of book you want! Also possibly soul crushing credit card debt, but that's another story....
I read Drawn Together yesterday and mostly enjoyed it. It took a left turn that I really wasn't expecting from the sample. (That's what I get for not reading the blurb carefully.) The voice at the beginning of the story was more distant than I prefer, but as it progressed it got deeper into Rory and Yamane's POVs, and I enjoyed it more. And the end was kind of adorable.
Also possibly soul crushing credit card debt, but that's another story.... Definitely!Fall of State is Chinese historical and Over the Mountain of the Moon is Japanese historical, Two Hearts Two Spirits is not historical, perhaps a bit paranormal? But the characters and the tribe setting are unique so I am tempted.
Over the Mountain of the Moon looks good. Let us know what you think of it. I'm not surprised there are m/m samurai books, since it wasn't uncommon for samurai to take their apprentices as lovers.
Sure! I don't know when I am going to read it though, with my huge backlog. Hopefully sooner than later!
lol, yep, we've all got this problem. Although, Heather, this is how I'm avoiding that soul crushing credit card debt... rather than buying the stack on my Amazon Wish List now, I'm waiting until GhosTV comes out in print to buy them. I'll buy them together (along with the May book group read), get free shipping, and save a few bucks in the meantime. I hope.
I'm also hoping that the huge pile of m/m books on my coffee table will help keep me too busy to want more books so soon. But that's failing fast. lol.
This is today, however, and things could easily change tomorrow! lol.
Speaking of ereaders... I saw a great comic the other day: Two kids are sitting at the kitchen table. One says to the other "My Dad always said to sit on books so that I could reach my food." And the second says "I just downloaded three new books, but I still can't reach anything!" ... well, it went something like that anyway, but it was pretty priceless, I thought.

I'm new to this, so if this is old stuff, sorry. Have you read Map of the Harbor Islands? I mean, wow. Months after reading it, I still think about it. It occurred to me that, though you've surely read it, if not, you must. It's wonderful.
I didn't care for Bareback at all. I'm not looking for "real," but I am looking for an author to allow me to pretend these are real people. Ms Owens tends to create Edens of gays/accepting straights. Also, to pretty much dance us from one sexual situation to another, all of which are full of hyperbolic best-evers. I don't mean to be excessively critical, but her style just isn't for me.

Suhi, yes let's! ;)
Sushi, I agree! When it comes time to nominate for June's read, let's throw in some ninja stuff! I love reading about people kicking butt!!!
As for Map of the Harbor, I've never even heard of it. I'll have to look into it!
Last night I started reading Alex Beecroft's False Colors. For too long now I've been telling myself I would read it next, but something else always got in the way. So I just grabbed it and started reading. So far, I have to say it's fantastically written and I'm thoroughly enjoying it only two chapters in.

I stayed up until five a.m. this morning to finish Counterpoint: Dylan's Story. There should be a category for books that rate more than five stars, like a gold star rating or something for extraordinary works of fiction. If you pull up the book you'll see my review. Highly recommended and keep the tissues handy - you will need them.
Erm, I managed to get Cut & Run by Madeline Urban and Abigail Roux for free off of ARE. Considered getting it before, but didn't because I have a limited budget. Going to be the first time reading it- I've heard it's an awesome story.ARE's having an Earth Day free book sale or something. I think until April 21, they will offer the first book of a series up for free. Some of it's M/F, some M/M. I've managed to get Deadly Nightshade by Victor J. Banis- and was surprised.
Never read his work before, and judging by the title, I was expecting it to be really dark. It's more of a comedy than anything- it reminded me of a Jennifer Crusie book. Haven't finished it yet, though.
I'm planning to get Woke Up In a Strange Place as well, because I've heard excellent things about it. But not yet. :P
Cleon, Jordan S., Yay! :)
I was struggling with "Dash and Dingo" for 3 day but I'm giving up. I can't get into it.
Started "Snowball in Hell".

, AM Riley's writing is superb as always. But this is definitely not a standard cop or mystery story. It is very emotionally intense. Readers are going to hate it or love it, and perhaps some might throw their books (or ebook readers) across the room through halfway of the book. But I am glad she handled how to write fucked up relationship well, because let's face it, not every relationship is healthy. And in the end, I am quite satisfied with the ending.

There's a sequel! yay! (Well, not really, need to wait later to buy. lol)I read Elegant Corpse, but I didn't like it. Didn't hate it either, it's a 3 stars for me because I think the ending is disappointing. I can't understand the motif of the serial killer at all.

I'm on the side that loves this book. Sometimes I love reading about super flawed characters trying to find their way around a screwed up relationship. What I love most about this book is that the characters are willing to admit their own mistakes and work hard to be together. Not too many people do that nowadays, unfortunately.
