Hi Pamela! Welcome!

lol, I went to the Rainbow Book Fair in NYC yesterday and got to meet some great m/m authors! I got four books signed, and had a blast. My only regret was that I didn't bring enough cash. There were four extra books I couldn't buy... boohoo! lol. But I got six more at least. These are them:
The Path to Forever by Etienne
Prognosis: Forever by Etienne (yeah, it's two books in a series and I went and got both, against my better judgement. I've never heard of the author, but I hope they're good!)
Clouds and Rain by Zahra Owens
A Taste of Love by Andrew Grey
Accompanied by a Waltz by Andrew Grey
A Promise of Tomorrow by Rowan McAllister

Gosh, Andrew is SUCH a dear to talk to! lol, he was at the Dreamspinner Press table along with other authors I'd never heard of before. You know, I think I was standing next to Clare London at one point. I've never read her work though. Oh, there was such a wide variety of books, and it was hard to choose between them. And the panel discussions were great too!

Anyway, that was my day yesterday, and I can't wait to repeat it next year! I'll remember to bring more cash with me when I go too!

Etienne is a fabulous author, so you did good. :) Maybe not for everyone, but the writing is excellent.

You know, I think I was standing next to Clare London at one point. I've never read her work though.

Clare is a wonderful person! She's so funny and has that accent! ;) Her writing is very good and varied in genre than most. It doesn't fall into one single category, but crosses several. Of her stories, I would recommend True Colours or Freeman or Blinded by Our Eyes first... then moving on to the others.

I've heard the same about Andrew, and one of these days, I just know I'll be there to meet him somewhere!

There is! There is! I can honestly say, this is one of the best friends to lovers stories I've ever read. Not to mention the great kick-ass action/adventure. Man! So, now I'm on-to Like Pizza and Beer and wondering when the next in the series will be produced.

The PsyCops series is a fantastic read, and GhosTV just adds to its appeal and reputation. Victor's and Jacob's relationship is real (not to mention hot!). With each book of the series, you see Vic grow and change for the better.

I cannot say enough good about this series.

Dee Wy (deewy) Currently reading Out There in the Night (Out There, #1) by Laura Baumbach . I picked this up for $2.99 and thought I was getting a novella, but it's 189 pages. I'm about 3/4 through the book and it feels like a novel and very good.

I'm also working on the Psy Cop series, having only read the first two and love it so far.

Don't read it just for Jules and Robin though ... Cosmo is SMOKIN' HOT, if you ask me. I could almost seem him going gay, but he's not. He's strong, silent (until he meets his girl) and then he's sweet and sensitive... and OMG, Jane was sooo lucky to have him. lol. A hot guy who gives back massages to sooth someone to sleep, oh that's just the best!

As for Psycop, I just did that when I reread the first three books. Now, I'm patiently waiting for GhosTV to come out in paperback. It's my goal prize. Edit 50 hours of my novel in March, then, and only then, will I allow myself to buy such an esteemed novel. Oh, I can't wait! It's driving me nuts!

And Clare London, yes, I will definitely check out those books you mentioned, Merith. All the writers there were so happy, bubbly, friendly, and wonderful to talk to, it made for a really great experience!

Jan | 100 comments I've got Psycop on my list, and I've got the books, but I've got distracted by P A Brown's LA Heat series. I read L A Heat yesterdsay and its excellent, a bit gory in places, the bodies are described quite graphically, but an excellent mystery all the same. I'm just about to start L A Boneyard. The main protags are so well drawn, that even when you want to smack them, you can't help liking them and wanting things to turn out well for them.

I've been trying to put together a book trailer for the series and it just DEFIES me. I have to start from scratch. I'm realizing that a lot of why I love this series -- love writing it, I mean -- is nebulous. It doesn't translate well into making a book trailer.

Do you want us to tell you why we love reading it? Two hot men, who don't communicate well, but know how to get physical, that can handle weapons, and end up bruised and battered (and shot at sometimes), from a US security agency, that you don't know if you want to slap them or kiss them, in exotic (in a broad sense) environments, who don't communicate well... I'm repeating myself... and are very hot :)

lol, for the past few years I haven't bought anything fun for myself unless it was a) my birthday b) Christmass c) I'd written 50k words in November and won NaNoWriMo or d) I'd edited 50 hours in March and won NaNoEdMo. lol, I should add an "e" to that, for library book sales where books are cheap!

But, now I've been in a relatively good paying job (versus jobless or cashier at a cafe) for long enough that it's starting to make a difference. YAY!!! So,I'm going on a little book buying spree... or I have been just recently. But I promise not to buy anything more until my bday this summer... except GhosTV is part of my prize to myself for winning Edmo when it comes out in paperback.

Merith | 361 comments Josh wrote: "That's my new rule. I'm on a book buying diet. ;-D "

How does that work? I'm better at a nutritional diet (and that's not good at all!) than I am from stopping myself from buying new stories. I have at least 200 on my backlist to read... and it's not like they're bad. Just, I keep seeing new, shiny and can't help myself.

Oh God! Do I need a 12 step program??

Merith, try my idea and only buy them for certain times of the year, or make yourself work hard for them like I do with Wrimo and Edmo. When I do that, I try to keep my spending to no more than $100.00. At the end of Edmo this year, I'm looking at getting my first fountain pen and GhosTV, since I've already bought a ton of new m/m romance books.

For the most part it works well. I just create a wish list on Amazon and choose from that when the time comes. BUT, I try not to order anything before November or March are up. No jumping the gun allowed. lol. Good luck!

For the record, I don't have a lazy eye and I'm not a stripper, B was just trying to get back at me with a stripper name because I call him Bambi and Looksi is the only other stripper name he knew. Lol..

I'm reading Lords of Kellesborne (The Draegan Lords, #2) by M.L. Rhodes right now. I've started and stopped it a few times but I'm actually liking it now. ^_^

And I loved Catch Me If You Can. It's so funny :D

YES!!! Your public library is the best place to go! I work in one, that should have been my first response. Ah well. There are just some books though, that I wouldn't want to borrow and have to return. That would be most of the m/m books I've read. I like to have them on hand whenever I feel the need to reread them, even if I just want to relive a scene or two at random. You know? I love doing that. They're my comfort reads and I want to keep them close.

Also, the m/m books I hated, mostly because they were written badly, I wouldn't want to see on a library shelf because they were written so poorly. Otherwise, I would have donated the books I bought and didn't like to the collection. *sigh*

The other thing is that some libraries just don't have m/m books. In fact, just checking our catalog, the only Josh Lanyon books we have are the ones I bought specifically for the teen collection last year. They are constantly going out though. But, the adult collection development team hasn't caught on yet. And this is a HUGE library in a big city with multiple branches.

Part of the reason I went to the rainbow book fair on Saturday was to get contact info for the library so we can order more of these books! It's sad that we don't carry them for those people who can't afford them. I'm seriously hoping to change that, even though I'm locked into the teen department.

Unfortunately, the tiny library in my small town (in the middle of Nebraska) doesn't carry M/M anything. Well... it does have Prince of Darkness manga, but I think that's because the librarian didn't know what it was. ;)

message 1690: by Yvonne (last edited Mar 28, 2011 12:21PM) (new)

Yvonne (ysareader) Well I live in big city Chicago area suburb & my library doesn't carry m/m romance books. They do carry the occasional gay themed book. I got a book called "Yield" by Lee Houck which was about a man who was a gay hustler by day & a file clerk in a hospital at night in New York during I think the 80's or 90's. It's a pretty good book and reads like a memoir(it's fiction) and apparently is based somewhat on the author's life.

I've also gotten from the library "Almost Like Being in Love" which is basically a gay romance/coming of age and reunion story that spans over 20 year. It's a great book but you have to get used to the writing style (the story is told in journal entries, memos & post it notes).

I'm a big big user of the public library so other than those, I get the more mainstream publisher & bestsellers from there. Especially the ones that are charging 16.99 to 19.99 for an ebook. I have a budget to think about.

What I generally purchase now are ebooks (I have no room for 'actual' books) & mainly m/m books, books from smaller/independent publishers (in any genre) & a few bestsellers & non fiction books that I'm going to read more slowly & may want to read again.
