Too true! i was going to say that that would definitely not be enough for a good mystery, but actually i'd rather it wasn't the only thing generally, as much as i prefer to have gay characters in whatever i'm reading, or at least lgbt-friendly as much as possible.

In 10th grade English, the anthology we had for a textbook used an example from Death and the Dancing Footman. When I recognized it, I blurted it out and the whole class stared. I'll never know if it was the oddness of the quote or they just weren't used to my coming to class, um, conscious.
I have a whole pile of books from the Dreamspinner Press TweetAway event. I don't know where I'm going to start...I am really appreciating it because we had to buy a new fridge today (AND have someone service the washing machine) so books & other fun things are going to be waaaay down on the list of "things to spend money on" for the next few months especially until we find out what's going to happen w/ DH getting out of the military. o.O
I just finished A Spear of Summer Grass by Deanna Raybourn. It was soooo good, y'all. I can't recommend it enough.
I'm delurking to see if anyone knows how to fix this problem. Lately (past couple of weeks) when I come to read new posts here, I'm sent way back many posts prior to the actual new posts. It tells me the correct number of new posts on the home page, like today it was 'one' but I started about 40 posts back. This is the only thread here (or in any other group) in which I'm having this trouble. I always get great reading ideas here but don't like the extra hassle in finding where I left off. Thanks for any suggestions.
I've wondered about that too, I'm in another group where that happened for a while, I don't know what they did to fix it.

I just finished How to Repair a Mechanical Heart. *sigh* Absolutely brilliant!! I'm usually not a big fan of YA novels to be honest (I kinda overdosed on them as a teenager), but this one... it totally spoke to the ever-existing dork in me with all the fandom. It's funny, witty, entertaining, and very young. I really loved it!!

Hi Jax and everyone! This seems to be happening to all of us. Calathea has posted a question on the Goodreads Feedback group to get help for the bug in this topic. We are still waiting if somebody will come up with some kind of solution in the near future...
ETA: And it seems that we are not the only group with the same problem...
I just figured out that the new posts are being placed at the top of the page, although that is not how I have them set up to post. I have to play with the directional arrow to get them to show up. When they do, they are at the top of the page, on top of posts a day or two older.

It's not all about fun, though, there is some angst (or should I say anxiousness?) thrown in, but it's all very real, very... believable. It was the perfect read for my spontaneously free day :-D

I read somewhere that her house burned down last year, that might have had something to do with it too. It must be a traumatic thing to have happened.

Read Rebecca and the Moonspinners (as well as all other Mary Stewart romantic mysteries). Read a number of John Dickson Carrs and Josephine Teys though I don't think the ones you mentioned. Never even heard of Leigh Brackett, I'm sorry to say.
I read and re-read all of Agatha Christie, Ngaio Marsh, Dorothy Sayers (!) and some Elizabeth Linington/Dell Shannon, Ellery Queen, Rex Stout and others of that vintage. Plus of course all the Sherlock Holmes stories.

Yeah, the fire was about a year and a half ago now, I think. It sounds like the remodeling is finished, and they're back home again, but I'm sure it took a chunk out of her productivity. She also had a couple titles expire that she re-released, so that's time consuming, too.
I wish I remembered the details, things just slide right out of my head sometimes, but ZAM was really pumped about an upcoming release. It's the first m/m titles for a big 6 publisher. I don't remember which one- Kensington, maybe? And I don't remember the title or release date, if she even said.
So, yeah. Basically I'm useless. :P But I know she was really excited about it!

She's got two novels with Berkley Intermix. Which is really interesting -- promising! I can't wait to see what happens there.

She is one of my favourite writers; she makes you want to travel to those places (I wish they were still there as she wrote them, but they certainly made me want to go to Corfu and the South of France, and I wasn't disappointed). The appreciation of the simple French food in Madam, Will You Talk? says more about post-war Britain than any grimy dismal book set in England could have done.

Fantasy, Sci-Fi, Mystery, Steampunk, Humour, Romance (well, no M/F romance - that's another genre on which I overdosed as a teenager), Erotica, Light Classics, Heavy Classics, ... It's funny, the more pressure I have at work, the more I devour books in my spare time. It's one of the few things that keeps me reasonably sane these days ;-D
