Most new cars look the same to me, but the old Karmann Ghia makes me think of a French man with a pencil mustache.

I really liked Muscling Through, i think it was the first book by J.L.Merrow that i read. I found it refreshing and it made me smile a lot :)

I started this today, although I had planned to hoard it for a weekend read. I had to google Gok Man; never heard of him. I love JL Merrow.

Mtsnow13 | 1115 comments I bought all those, too! And the Aleksandr's Dark Soul Vol. 1series and a few others. It's a great opportunity to add to my tbr list... I also just finished Amy Lane's latest, Bolt-Hole, and Abi's Touch & Geaux. I also pre-ordered her next book at a discount - It's been a great start to the month! Next on my list is J.R. Ward's Lover At Last, and hoping it doesn't disappoint with all the build up

Reggie It's been awhile since I've read Muscling Through, how is Slam connected?

Thanks for the heads up about the release. I do love the Brit vocab.

I have been re-reading the Psychop series. I am half way through GhostTV. I love it!

message 12965: by Mtsnow13 (last edited Apr 10, 2013 01:38PM) (new)

Mtsnow13 | 1115 comments Bolt Hole was very good, to me, but especially poignant with the inter-racial point of view. Many dynamics I wouldn't have contemplated or even thought about were brought up. Amy Lane never seems to disappoint. I am also glad to see Harper Fox has a new one. Don't know how I missed that one!

As far as Special Forces... Well, all I can say is that it is one of the best series I have read, and I think, being a former Marine myself, it was a series that stuck in my head for a very long time... It has angst, but I have to admit mourning when I finished. Those characters stayed with me for months and are definitely due a re- read.

I haven't tackled the Special Forces either, but Incursion and Dark Edge of Honor are definitely recommended, too! Especially if you don't mind good Sci-Fi :-D

Matthias Williamson (matthiasw) | 340 comments So I take it the abi roux series is good? I've got special forces on my home computer, the first chapter was so hard to read, emotional, I've just started the second chapter.

It's funny I use to buy paperbacks all the time and only read halfway through. My friend reminded me about that the other day, I said that since I got my nook I've read 25 books in two months. Mostly thanks to you all.

I think the Abi Roux (Cut & Run) series is good... It's lighter than Special Forces, but the dynamics between the two MCs gets better and better, and I was pleasantly surprised, as when it ended up that Abi had to decide to continue writing the series on her own, she did a great justice to the characters... more than expected :)

Hob-nobs are definitely biscuits! (or cookies to you) "made from rolled oats and jumbo oats, similar to a flapjack/digestive biscuit hybrid." I bet you're not much wiser now...

I think it's a reference to the word hobnob: "mix socially, especially with those of perceived higher social status: he was hobnobbing with the great and good".

Very good, but tough subject matter, complex personalities.

Take that old promo: "This is easy listening hour." And replace easy with difficult. (smile, but true)

All of Psycop is amazing. And one shouldn't put off any of the books if you can afford to. Once you've read them, you'll want to reread them again. That's why I bought them first in print and then went back to get them in ebook.

I only read vampire stories if they're very unique, like this one and the one by JCP. Blacker Than Black was interesting. Very interesting. And leaves you guessing until the very end. I really liked how the two MCs announce their love for each other.

Oh yeah, and Lou's Spirit Sanguine. Hilarious that story is. For sure. You have to get it when it comes out. No doubt about it.

Honestly, I couldn't get through the first two chapters of Cut and Run, because the editing was so bad. I tried it a second time and couldn't get through chapter 1, so I gave up. But so many people seem to love it. I think I would have really enjoyed the series if the editing had been better. But that's just me.

As for you reading 25 books in one month... go you! That's pretty awesome. Especially when you used to not finish books. Woot! Looks like you found your niche genre. :-)

Aleksandr Voinov (vashtan) Jordan - The books improve on the editing level. I did have the same issues, but I pushed through because I really enjoyed According to Hoyle, and it pays off. The lack of editing is pretty criminal in the whole genre, but not everybody notices it. :)

I'm currently reading 3 books. I sometimes read more than one book at time if I'm just not in love with what I've started. When I do that it means I like the book enough to finish it, but not so much that I can't put it down and supplement it with something else. I am, however, thinking of putting all 3 aside and starting Skybound, which I've been hoarding. :-)
