What else are you reading? (June 2010 - May 2013) *closed*

(I had gotten this as a freebie from Dreamspinner during their October twitter give-aways, and I definitely think it was a great freebie. Now I want to check out more from Black, so it worked well as a "gateway" book to check out an author's style.)
Does anyone have a recs for Black's other works? What would you recommend to read next by her?

Hmm, maybe we should open a thread about the Travelling Books, so we can keep track of who has them and who wants them? It might get difficult doing that in a thread that has so many various topics on the run at the same time :-D
ETA: That's good news about the postage!! Sounds like veeeery reasonable pricing ;)

I think that's a great idea, in case anyone else would like to send a book out that they loved and that others are having a hard time getting.
I know I have a couple of books that are out of print, my only fear for sending them out is wondering if I'd ever see it again. But, I understand the need for sharing. Has anyone ever read The Carnivorous Lamb by Agustin Gomez-Arcos?

Nope, never heard of it, tbh :)

Yes. Almost entirely different stories.

Yeah. I'd be all in favor of that.

Yeah. I'd be all in favor of that.

It's out of print as far as I know. Written in French in 1975, I have a translated copy from 1986. I found it here...

I put The Travelling Books of Our Group topic in the Book of the Month Club folder.
(Help! Why does my computer want to take the other letter l away from the word travelling? Is it really spelled with only one L?)

I think traveling is the American way of spelling it. Proper English spelling would be travelling, obviously ;P

Oh no. I can't read when I'm sick either. I usually glom onto a series and just stream the whole thing. The last time was New Tricks. I got all the way to series 8.

I'll definitely have a look at that, thanks!

I have to say readers came up with some very good ideas as well as helping me clarify my thoughts.
The thing about creating a solid audio library is even if it doesn't do more than pay for itself short term -- which I have to trust will happen -- in seven years I'll have the rights back and maybe I'll really need those earnings then?

Yes!! Great story, too.
Yes, it's a story with happy m/m couple but at the centre is yet another one of Sarah Black's many great warm very close and very odd families. Nobody else does them quite like she does.

Does anyone have a recs for Black's other works? What would you recommend to read next by her? "
The same question has been asked yesterday by Valerie, see answers 13391 (Lady*M), 13408 (mine) and 13413 (Marge) in this page and the one before.

I like Border Roads a lot. I don't know if she has that one still available or not?

Hey there, Liade, long time no see! What have you been up to in the mean time?

Regarding the travelling books: Just put your name on the list here for "Every Time I Think of You". I can send it to you then or should we send it to Tina first?

I've got it on paper in the Italian translation and I haven't read it yet. But the reviews are quite positive, see for ex. here.
Anyway it is not (anymore) out of print: http://www.amazon.com/dp/1551522306/?...
I suspect that the Brazilian move ''From Beginning to End'' is based on it.

The same I thought! *waves at Lia*

It is by Loose ID:
http://www.loose-id.com/border-roads....
or
amazon
ETA: I'd like it also on paper though...

It is sad to me that it is almost identical to the book, but I see nothing that says that it is.

Than you can confirm this? I had this idea but I went to check about the movie and saw nowhere a mention of the book. So I thought maybe I'm wrong.

I can't confirm it, I just can say that in the description of the movie it says that he was born with his eyes closed and when they opened a couple of weeks later he looked at his five year old brother.
From the book: "Sixteen days!" she exclaimed. "Can you believe it? He waited sixteen days to open his eyes! We were all standing around his cradle, and do you know what he did? Without hesitating, he looked straight at his brother, staring at him as if he were trying to hypnotize him."

*More waving Liade's way* How are you?! :)
By the way, Every Time I Think of You isn't a very thick book, so I assume that the postage for it won't be too bad. Your estimation is probably right, Liade.

Oh, good! I just finished it last night, and it was wonderful. Hope you enjoy it as much as I did.

I think the story can be read as fantasy; that's how I read it, so the literal historical context became unimportant.
As for the kink, almost as soon as I was introduced to the captive, I found I definitely did not want him to learn to love his slavery--the s/m slant. I liked him and I wanted him to keep his chin up. That's exactly what he did, too. He fought through to ultimately earning respect as well as a meaningful place for himself right where he was for as long as he had to be there.
The romance also worked very well for me; and again, sex did not lead but followed. So, when it did arrive, it carried weight.
I think you should at least start the book. The author's a good storyteller.

Oh, thanks! And sorry to ask again. I hadn't seen those earlier messages. (This is a pretty active thread with often parallel discussions going at once, so I don't always look through older posts.) I'll check those out.
And thanks for the rec for Border Roads, Josh! :)
I thought Marathon Cowboys was pretty stellar. It's nice to find an author through one book and then happily dig through their backlist. Lots to look forward to. :D

I do agree. It should be read as a fantasy. It is well written and has a captivating story line. It is certainly not a BDSM story. I did enjoy it.

Wow! You won a kindle? That's quite a prize. Why did it take you so long to start using it?

No problem. I'm always happy to advertise a bit for Sarah Black!

I went to the UK GLBT Meet last year and they usually organize a lottery for an organization helping homeless young GLBT, the Albert Kennedy Trust. I won the first prize. The funny thing is that I wasn't interested in a Kindle at first... But then Eve showed me the potentiality of the device and helped me to set it up and in two hours I was quite happy.
But it took me a while start using it. I was used to read at my computer or in bed with print books. I also kept buying new books as PDF because the Kindle doesn't look safe to me having no backup. In the meantime I buy books in both formats when possible.

I took a little lurking break

And it's great to be missed

Yes! Years ago. I loved that book and have never quite gotten it out of my head. I think I mentioned it at some point in this forum, but it would have been a lot of pages and msgs ago. I still have a good copy in my bookcase.

Any kindle books that I download to my computer I back up as usual to an external hard-drive just in case.

This is what happened when I was reading Kindle books without a Kindle device. But I thought that if I download directly to the Kindle there is no backup. Now I've seen that I can organize it myself.

Juthi, the m/m romance group on Goodreads has a pretty neat ebook lending section for kindle and nook. It's a great place to seek out and borrow books (whenever budgets are tight.) :) They're a really nice, helpful group.

I haven't posted much in the M/M group but I do have a Kindle lendable shelf - anyone is welcome to check it out. :-)
Finished CUTYS a few days ago and am horribly sad as a result. I loved it very much and didn't want it to end. But it did. I have a feeling I'll be reading that one over many times. :-)

I'm in the middle of listening to it. I read it ages ago so don't remember all the plot twists and turns. Worrying now because you're sad - but now I look again, I think you're only sad because you've finished it?

*offers shoulder* I think you need to join the CUTYS discussion in May... ;-)
Meanwhile I might need your shoulder, because I'm in the middle of As Meat Loves Salt — well, actually only on page 100, but I'm sad nevertheless (and for the different reasons than you are).

Thanks for posting that! Very interesting thoughts on the future, and some of the upcoming titles look really good! I'll definitely be ordering the new ones for our LGBTQ section in the library!

Oh gosh, I read that awhile back. I understand your pain. You will need a shoulder for this book for sure. I'll bring the kleenex, several pints of chocolate gelato, and more chocolate on top of that. We can comiserate together.

I love the idea of the travelling the books but I would only be interested in Every Time I Think of You, As Meat Loves Salt sounds just a little tooooo depressing.
