Lady*M | 197 comments I just finished Line and Orbit by Sunny Moraine and Lisa Some and this is, so far, the best book I've read this year. And I can't wait for the sequel.

Edit: As I am now in the mood for sci-fi, I'll probably try Aliens, Smith and Jones soon.

Anne | 6816 comments This is not m/m, but I am currently reading Written in Redby Anne Bishop. It has a complete new twist on the shifter trope, and is very well written. It is at least a trilogy and very complex, and she has drawn me completely into her world and her protags' life. Recommended if you like fantasy outside the m/m genre.

That sounds very interesting, and I haven't been disappointed yet by listening to your recommendations :)

Oh, awesome, Line and Orbit is probably the next book I'll read :) So looking forward to it!! And I have to check out the other one right away...

I have a really strong psychosomatic reaction to them (almost like an allergy; actually, that's what I usually tell to make people understand it's not just a matter of dislike). Basically, I eat them and then run to the next restroom to revert the eating process. Except for truffels, those are awesome! Friends like to say that this is evidence for my inherent and unconscious snobbiness :)

I'm sorry you have this quasi-allergic reaction. I love them, and was worried that your biology training meant you knew they were really bad for us.

Funny about the truffles - except that they are a different fungus. Googled and: "Mushrooms are from the division Basidiomycota, the club fungi. Truffles are of the division Ascomycota, the cup fungi." More than you needed to know... Obviously your palate is very refined, and can tell the difference!!

Katharina | 656 comments Hj wrote: "Obviously your palate is very refined, and can tell the difference!!"

That must be it, LOL! Interesting, though, I didn't know that.
And no, there really is nothing inherently bad about mushrooms (I wish my digestive system knew that). I'd be careful about the toxic ones, but besides that... :)

That's good! I like it when I start watching movies I've seen before (and enjoyed, obviously) but don't quite remember the details of the who-dunnit.

Which simply reinforces my belief that the who-dunnit is pretty much the least important or interesting part of any mystery.

When it comes to mystery fiction, it's all about the journey rather than the destination.

I have to say this was a book with loads of potential but -- in my opinion -- desperately in need of a real editor. As I read, I rewrote that thing from start to finish. It had so much potential. But I got bored and gave up three quarters in.

I wonder what the possibilities would be for a Heidi if they (okay, she) had the chance to work with a Miki Nuding, for example?

I read the single most glowing review of any m/m novel EVER in Publisher's Weekly for Line and Orbit by Sunny Moraine

I mean, they could not say enough wonderful things about this book -- which I bought (naturally) but haven't read yet.

Have any of you read it?

message 12114: by Katharina (new)

Katharina | 656 comments It's the next book on my list, Josh. I've read a lot of reviews saying how great it is! Almost makes me sceptical ;)
On the other hand, it was the same thing with Wicked Gentlemen and this book turned out to be absolutely brilliant!

That's why I bought it. I have the same reaction to such overwhelming glowing praise. But PW is pretty neutral. They have zero investment in this genre or this community. So I figure if the book impressed their romance reviewer that much, it's got to have something pretty powerful going on.

Yes. Ouch indeed.

But you know what, as incoherent as that review is at points, that's pure, unadulterated passion. That's a reader who cares. Cares deeply. Wanted to love that book, even expected to love that book. The anger on behalf of those characters! And the disappointment there -- it's almost hurt, hurt that Ward disappointed her so badly.

I don't know yet. I haven't even made it past book 9. I think after Lover Mine it fell off for me. I'll wait and see the response after it's released.

Idk how I would feel about M/M going mainstream.

So many writers seem to think it would result in more sales and more money. I'm truly curious to get the reader perspective on this.

I like that it would benefit you. The writer. You'd gain more sales, money, fans. Am I right? I guess for me personally I like how this is..idk what word to decribe..I guess independent. It's like a cult following. Not everyone is aware of M/M and not everyone's going to understand it. I feel like it's my thing. I guess I just worry about it going mainstream and getting commercialized. That things will change. I don't know how to word this well, since I haven't given it that much thought to be honest. But I'd be happy that is would benefit the authors because you all work hard and deserve it. It's just me being greedy lol.

KC | 4897 comments Hi everyone,
reading now through the Psycop series, i'm on to the 3rd and really enjoying it (it's not as scary as i expected it to be which is good :)) and braving The Year of the Flood - i found Oryx and Crake fascinating, but i'm finding this one ... less easy to get into, still interesting thou.
Next on my list: Ghost Wife, The Charioteer, and first of Rifter.

message 12138: by Aleksandr (new)

Aleksandr Voinov (vashtan) Personally, I'd hope that some of us who go mainstream (I'll write two things for the mainstream, which feature bisexual characters - one woman in the Steampunk, one man in the historical) will draw more readers and get a bigger following, which I hope will result in more sales and visibility. But I'm mostly writing those things because the Muse is chewing on my brain that way.

Regarding LAL - I'm not invested in the series at all (I cant get over the spelling, nor do I read hetero romance doorstoppers - I have big enough issues reading ANY doorstoppers these days...).

message 12139: by Charlinda (new)

Oh okay lol. Yeah I don't have time to read books that long anymore because of school and work. And her books tend to drag on in the middle. I borrowed the first 6 books from a friend over the summer and read them all within a week or two because I had a lot of time on my hands. But I don't think I can do the 500+ pages right now. Plus $14.99 is out of my price range for an ebook.
