Bubbles Hunty Honest & Direct Opinions (vapidbubbles) Josh I didn't like (as in hated) Regularly Scheduled Life for a lot of reasons, all in my review. I read her Diving deep series but didn’t care for it either.

I didn't have a run of bad books per se but more i tend to talk about the ones i don't like more than the ones I love. Most books I really like, I like for the same reasons so I tend to stop talking about them.

Oops. Remind me not to try and buy you books. :-D

Where's the review, Dane? What didn't work for you specifically? Did anything work for you?

Bubbles Hunty Honest & Direct Opinions (vapidbubbles) all my reviews our here on GR but i will post it here. Uh i just read it and looks like i whine a lot but

I hated this book. I thought it was going to be sad, it wasn’t it was just annoyingly frustrating. I would have liked it better if Kyle wouldn’t have taken Sean back.

I hated Sean and how selfish and inconsiderate he was towards Kyle.

(view spoiler)

On the plus side it wasn’t sad and I didn’t cry

So it was primarily frustration with the actions of one character?

message 1107: by Bubbles Hunty (new)

Bubbles Hunty Honest & Direct Opinions (vapidbubbles) Yes, Sean i the main reason I hated it so strongly. Also there was too much sex and i hated it how when the MC's weren't able to have sex she flashed back to previous sex scenes

message 1108: by Heather C (new)

Heather C (heathercook) I've also read KA's Diving in Deep Series. They were actually the 1st m/m books I read. I agree with Bubbles, they just have too much sex for me. Every other scene is a sex scene. And the plot is centered entirely around it. Even most of the conversations were during a sex scene. Since then I've discovered other authors I love who's books actually contain a plot. I haven't read anymore books by her since

Heather, YES!!!! I can't wait for GhosTV!!!

I just started the first Petit Morts books last night, and I'm partway into the first story. I have to say, even late at night, dead tired, knowing I'd have to get up wicked early, I was laughing out loud and "OMG"ing at what was going on. So far, it's a truly enjoyable book. lol. But of course it is. Look who the authors are!

No, it is not a fundraiser. It's free. It was written to honor Patric, a memorial. Patric knew about it and since he is doing better they released it now to show his courage.

When you say 'them all', seriously? :) Or just the ones everyone talks about? Are you more interested in crime drama type stories or mystery type stories? I can dig through my list of books and rec a few. But, just to knock some out of the way, have you read James Buchanan? Anne Brooke? PA Brown? LB Gregg? Urban and Roux? DJ Manly? ZA Maxfield? JP Bowie? AM Riley? Charlie Cochrane? Nicole Kimberling? And while I'm not a fan of some of her other stories, I hear Mary Calmers' "A Matter of Time" series if very good. I haven't read it personally, so cannot rec it. ...these are all I can think of off the top of my head

I started reading this, read Patric's blog posts describing what was happening to him and couldn't go further. See, last year a little less than a year ago, I too was diagnosed with non-hodgekin's lymphoma. Not as rare as Patric's, but no less scary. And while I didn't have the horrible side-effects everyone talks about, treatment sucks. I'm six-month clear, but still not 100%. One day, I hope to go back to 'Wishing' and read it through. With tears, of course. :)

message 1120: by itmfiddler (new)

itmfiddler | 1 comments I just finished Wishing on a Blue Star as well and enjoyed it very much. Patric's posts are interspersed with short stories and notes from his friends written for him. The book is not a fundraiser (although considering the tales of his struggle with money, I wanted it to be), it is free for the ebook and just covering the cost to print it for the hard copy. It was intended to be a memorial for him, a way for people to celebrate his life and their love for him, as well as a way for him to share with others going through similar problems. They were hoping that he would live to see the book published, but not much more as his cancer was aggressive and seemed to be untreatable. Patric is an amazing man, and it comes across in his blog posts. I found his fight to understand what was happening to him, the disease, the treatments, etc. fascinating reading. Against the odds, he went into remission in Dec last year. The end of the book had me in tears.

As far as mysteries -- meaning the crime plot stands on its own -- I rec AM Riley, Anne Brooke, PA Brown, LB Gregg, Charlie Cochrane and Nicole Kimberling. The others are certainly enjoyable books, but the mysteries are--IMO--weak. Meaning not enough clues, suspects, detecting, or believable motivation.

Agreed, but depending on what kind of story the reader is looking for - a little adventure or mystery or action mixed with their sex or romance, it works.

Merith | 361 comments Josh wrote: "Merith, how are you doing these days?"

Thank you for asking. For the most part, I'm doing great. Seems every day my ability to do things I used to increases. Still fighting the lack of energy; I have more than I did while going through and just after treatment, but with this big project (the one I begged to be on), it's a bit of a struggle sometimes.

I'm reading again, finding a creative voice again, and my concentration levels keep increasing all the time. Oh, and my hair is growing back! Nearly 2 inches now. :)

Merith | 361 comments These days when I talk books, I usually speak of ebooks in the m/m romance spectrum. I keep forgetting that there are so many other books out there I should include when discussing and/or recommending.

So, Lori K - Michael Thomas Ford has a good crime/mystery story out there - What We Remember. It might fit what you're searching for. Ford is a contemporary writer of male fiction (and commentary/non-fiction), but this story isn't about male protags getting together, but about a long unsolved murder with a gay male character.

Dee Wy (deewy) Merith, glad to hear you are feeling better - don't push yourself too much. Reign in that type A behavior if you can, :D

I think reading a different genre now and then is a nice break from the more love-scene laden titles, even when they are very good. That's why I'm enjoying the Adrien English Mysteries so much right now, nice change of pace and I'm really into the characters. About 90% into Hell you Say and want to kill Jake right now, but I just know things will surely change before the book is done. We'll see.

Thanks! I've never thought I had a type A personality; I'm driven to work and work hard, but not in an overly ambitious sort of way.

As Josh says :D ...things surely change before the book is done. And change again (and again) before the series is done. Hope that isn't too much of a spoiler.

I want to thank the lovely person who mentioned here Lee Rowan's "Ransom". I'm in the middle of the second book of her Naval series and loving it. I love historical romance (I mean, m/m of course) and naval themes. When I was reading O'Brian's "Aubrey-Maturin" series I couldn't help wishing there was an m/m novel like that. And here I got it! You can tell the author made a great deal of research, I like all those details of the naval life. I also like the writing style, the romance and the action. Very nice rec!

Yvonne (ysareader) Re the reading topic: I recently read the two books in the Holmes & Moriarity series which I thought was great. I love mysteries with a dash of humor like these and I like Kit's POV on things. I'm looking forward to the next book in this series.

for Josh: I don't generally read short stories, but do you have any that are in a collection in an ebook format?

Other author's books: I tried Thief of Hearts: Tempted in Thailand which was better in idea(Indiana Jones/Romancing the Stone style) than execution. It was a little choppy in places, with the action stopped for the couple to have sex at the most unlikeliest of times. It's one of those books also where the author could make the main character a woman without having to change very little (except the obvious what goes into what)

Other recent reads are Outcast Mine which I really loved. I guess this would be Science fiction/fantasy type book with humanoid prisoner Aleron & his prison guard alien Jasak (he has retractable claws--I kept picturing Wolverine here)

I also read Amor en Retrogrado by AM Riley which I loved as well. This one features a 15 year dysfunctional relationship, some flashbacks, spanish slangs, a murder mystery and a little amnesia. It's an ambitious book and it's for those who don't mind very flawed heroes & some angst.
