That's a lot of credits! Do you buy extra ones when they are offered? I haven't done that yet, because I rarely listen more than two or three audiobooks a month, but you must listen to a lot more audiobooks than that.

I found out to my shock that credits expire after a while (on Audible UK). I was saving them up for when I went on holiday (I tend to buy CDs and cassettes on eBay etc. for day to day), and was surprised to find fewer than I expected. To their credit (haha) Audible reinstated them when I asked what had happened.

I must say I don't understand the logic - I'd paid for them! Meant to investigate on my return, maybe I'll get round to that soon...

Susinok | 5205 comments Yes I buy extra credits when the credit sales come up. The price is a bit cheaper per credit than the monthly credit price. I also have the 2 credit per month option.

On my plan I can have up to 12 credits in my "bank" and they expire after 1 year, which hasn't happened. I always find something to get.

Oh, okay. :)

And Hj, I didn't know either that credits expire after a certain time.

Johanna - can you automatically forward your work emails into a different folder so that they aren't sitting in your normal Inbox catching your eye whenever you check it for more fun emails? Just a thought, to help you keep to your resolution not to look at them late in the evening or at weekends.

Yes, a very good idea indeed. I've been planning to start using totally different email addresses for work and fun stuff. But I haven't gotten into it yet. Actually, this is something that hubby has been telling me for ages already... I don't know why I've been against it until now. The advice sounds more convincing coming from my Goodreads friends? ;)

I believe that's called a "productive" cough. Such a bland description.

"Productive," yup. lol, never thought of it as bland. But then again, I associate the term "productive cough" with phlegm, blood, and other, even less savory, body fluids...none of which are, um, bland. ^.^;;

That's sort of what I meant. I remember going to the drug store once and asking the pharmacist for a recommendation on cough medicine. He asked me if my cough was "productive" and it struck me as funny.
It sounds so innocuous, but meanwhile the poor person is doing a pretty good impersonation of Bill the Cat.

LOL!

Now that I think about it, I guess we use a lot of terms in healthcare that...just...don't do justice to a person's actual experience. Like "aspiration." That doesn't sound much like you just inhaled food or drink or...nastier stuff into your lungs and are probably choking your head off (or can't breathe at all) and might get pneumonia, does it? It sounds more like you're a young, energetic college student with stars in her eyes--you've got goals. You've got aspirations. Aspiration. Nope. You've just sucked crap into your lungs.

Then, we use big, jargon-y words for really simple things. Like, "ambulate" instead of "walk." I mean, really?

To be fair, we use the terms because they are a little more accurate for our purposes. You can hardly call the shuffling two-step that some guy who hasn't gotten out of bed for a week "walking," but he's on his two legs and managed to move himself a foot or two, so you can call it "ambulating." Likewise, "productive cough" is a good, broad term for coughing up any kind of gunk, even if it sounds kind of...practical and sterile.

Or you could use the more sophisticated "getting his ass in gear."

"Likewise, "productive cough" is a good, broad term for coughing up any kind of gunk."

My doctor uses "hawking and spitting." (Oh, wait. I'm one of those privileged people who doesn't have a doctor. Maybe it was Jimmy Stepkowski who said that.)

I do the same! That's why I was taken aback by the pronunciation of Tara (which we discussed a while ago). But isn't the audiobook good? Longing for the rest of Adrien in Chris Patton's dulcet tones.

I can imagine Adrien with an English accent but Jake does seem very American to me.

Glad it's not just me. Tara? - that would be the murder victim's wife then - known to me as Terror because she is one and that's how Chris Patton says it.

I've been going back for strategic listens during the day and to be soothed. I found myself unaccountably ruffled by the news of Tony Conran's death. I didn't know him only his work and he'd had a full life but still it feels like a beloved Oak tree that you assumed would be there forever has just vanished from the landscape.

message 11091: by Pender (new)

Pender | 638 comments A couple of days ago I popped over to JCP's website and re downloaded the 1st and 2nd books in the Turbulence series. (JCP recommended this as she's edited out some minor world-building type inconsistencies.) I'd gone there with the sole purpose of buying the latest installment though I also bought The Starving Years

I settled down to read tonight and ended up totally confused. I couldn't find the story with the blurb I'd read. I ended up going through all my ebooks and figuring out the order of the installments.

I'm still not 100% sure, but I think I might have bought Flying Blind twice. And it turns out there's a 7th book that I haven't bought yet, which was the blurb I must have read.

Maybe next time I should wait until all the installments are available at once.

I hadn't realised you could buy credits. Where does one buy them?

message 11093: by Susinok (new)

Susinok | 5205 comments Fehu wrote: "I hadn't realised you could buy credits. Where does one buy them? ..."

There are 1/2/3 credit deals which come around about once a month and you'll be notified via email. You have to have less than 3 credits banked, I think, in order to get the deal email. The price is slightly less per credit the more you buy. I normally pick them up 3 at a time.

Audible's deals vary by the state of your account. If you have 3 or more credits, you'll be notified of a 2 books for 3 credits deal. If you have fewer banked, you'll be offered to buy more credits.

What I like is when the buy 4 in x time and get $10. Then I save that $10 for the next time a 3 credit purchase comes up. Then my per/credit price goes down again.

This is the USA Audible. Not sure if it's different for others.

I'm on the last of the sniffles. I currently look a bit like Rudolph, but it never developed into a chest cold or cough. This might sound gross, but I usually do a nasal rinse when I have a cold or flu coming on. For me it seems to speed up my recovery.

My book launch? Well, I think. I've had a few short stories out before, but I don't really have anything to compare this launch to. Stage Fright is still active on Amazon, but it peaked in the high 40's and is dropping now. It's only the first week so it's still in a state of flux.
