It is good, isn't it? It just keeps you reading until you reach the conclusion. I couldn't put it down either.
As for not telling you ... I did mention how much I loved it somewhere in these Q&A topics ;)

Anita, someone did say it was good. Lol. I just can't remember who or where. I pretty much knew it was going to be one of those I couldn't stop. I think I've learned my lesson and I don't start any of Josh's books unless I know I won't be interrupted. So I got in bed and didn't stop until it was finished. Oh, and I LOVE the cover of that book!

I just finished My Fair Captain (Sci-Regency Series, #1) by J.L. Langley and sequel The Englor Affair (Sci-Regency Series, #2) by J.L. Langley . Regency period with dashes of kink & sci-fi goodness. Loved the regency setting, though. Think I may be ISO m/m historical recs now. LOL

Emanuela ~plastic duck~ (manutwo) | 1768 comments I liked Outcast Mine by Jamie Craig Outcast Mine very much, but it's rather dark, and comparing our books, I don't think you like dark books :)

Anything by Mark Alders, he writes elaborate plots and they are very funny.

I liked My Fair Captain (Sci-Regency Series, #1) by J.L. Langley My Fair Captain very much, but some friends of mine hated it (but I tend not to take books too seriously).

Why, I LOVE dark stories :) Why did you think I didn't? :) I liked some of Jamie Craig's books too. Will definitely check this one!

And looks like I'm going to spend some time on Mark Adler's site. Thanks!

Comparing your 1/2 stars to my 4/5 stars it seemed it was always for darker stories :) But the sample was very restricted, lol

Oh, no.. trust me, I don't base my rating on the book's mood. I do it according to how much of the text I had to skip :)

Oh dear. That would never ever in a million years work for me, LOL. I swear, I come up on a big paragraph, I read the first sentence, the last and skim the rest. I think that's why I break my own work up so much. (Barring my paranormal -- I think the world-building needs the extra attention.) I write as I read -- in short, staccato-like bursts.

Too much caffeine, probably. Waaaaaaaaaaaay too much caffeine. LOLOL

lol, that's a method of evaluation I'd never heard before :)

message 1069: by [deleted user] (new)

Well, I was not entirely serious, but I'd drop a book easily or skim through it if I don't particularly like it or get bored .. so I guess my method does make sense, doesn't it? :)

I have the exact opposite problem. To call my living space cramped would be generous. I don't have bookshelves anymore and wouldn't have any place to put them if I did. My books live in a box in my closet. So if it weren't for ereaders there would be no books in my life. Totally unacceptable!

The samples file on my Kindle has grown significantly in the last couple of days as I've read this thread, but I still groan every time I come across a rec for something that only comes in paper. There is no room at the inn!

After glutting myself on m/m titles in the last two weeks (8 Lanyons, 3 Prices, and a Langley) I'm taking a little break with Crux by Moira Rogers. Urban Fantasy, very entertaining so far. I'm not sure what I want to read next. I'm trying to balance all these new (to me) authors with the embarrassingly large TBR file I've accumulated.

One bad thing about ebooks-- they're like bunnies. They breed when you're not looking.

message 1072: by Heather C (new)

Heather C (heathercook) I just add them to my wishlist and then download the samples before I purchase. Honestly I don't think I would be reading m/m if ebooks were not available.

I know what you mean! lol. Just this morning I went to check out a few recommended books and they were all ebooks! I love the feel and the smell of a real book in my hands. No batteries needed, no having to worry if something is charged. If we lose power, I don't have to worry. And besides, I love the sight of shelves full of books, even if they're getting crammed. *sigh* my new apartment has slanted floors, like major, so I can't buy real bookshelves because they might not stand up. But yeah, real books are so much better.

True, when I'm on a long vacation and don't know what to take with me, or feel like I need to take everything, then I almost want one. But not quite. I still prefer books. There's just something about them...

Same here... well... maybe only a few authors - like Josh Lanyon and Richard Stevenson. And Konohara.
I've bought books upon reading (or listening to) a sample which I liked but ended up dropping them nonetheless. It's not always helpful :/

Well, if you don't mind BDSM themes, check out Slave Boy by Evangeline Anderson. It's one of my favorites that I love to read over and over and over again, so I highly recommend it! And, yes, it is a sci-fi/m-m romance novel.

I think you're thinking of The Pleasure Slave, which has a Pompeii-ish setting if I remember right. Slave Boy was a master/apprentice sci-fi kind of deal wherein the apprentice had to act as the master's slave due to a certain world's culture...or something like that.

I haven't read The Pleasure Slave, but Slave Boy is pretty much the way Kari described it. Basically, it's about two Servants of Light who do not have any control over the way their lives are going, except that Master Haven saved his novice Wren from a horrible existence on another planet when he was a child, and how they deal with it, during the peace treaty they are sent to put into place, and after.

I hope that made sense, but I don't want to give too much away. There are weird alien type creatures and space ships and several planets are mentioned, so yeah, definitely sci-fi. Though it does have some magic healing, that might or might not be sexy, depending on who's doing the healing. lol.

Dee Wy (deewy) Until I found the m/m group on this site, I thought I was really into m/m, now I realize I was just dabbling and have been making up for lost time in the last few weeks, choosing some of the top rated titles. Polished off Adrien English 1&2, Caught Running, Dangerous Ground, Duck, and Not Knowing Jack, all 4 or 5 stars.

A few hours at a time, I'm reading A Red-Tainted Silence - it moves a bit slow for me so am reading it in small chunks between other books. Meanwhile I've just started The Hell You Say. Thanks Josh, for this great series, I'm laughing already. First mysteries I've read in more than 20 years and loving every minute.
