I just checked Amazon USA- Kindle $3.99!
I think it is so inexpensive because it includes excerpts from the multi-voice audio edition. They are hoping for up-sales. http://www.amazon.com/American-Gods-A...

I found a copy of And Four to Go in the loft. Have left it out to read. Thanks for reminding me Josh. Can you recommend any other Christmas themed vintage mysteries?

You will not be sorry. It's a perfect book to escape to during long, cold, winter days. And I wasn't joking about gay Ifrit. XD

O-kay. I bought the American Gods too. Thank you for the recommendation everyone. And thank you, Anne, for reminding us of Simple Gifts — you have recommended this one to me earlier this year and I'd forgotten all about it. I'm definitely going to read it during the Holidays. :)

I've always wanted to write to the authors that moved me, but never been brave enough. It's less daunting with social media somehow, but it still took me over a year to join this group. I'm so glad I did though. :)

And of course you can't forget The Thin Man. Although -- sacrilege, I know -- the movie is better. The SO and I watch the movie every Christmas Eve when we get back from my parents.

One of my favorite movies. There's definitely more humor in the movie than in the book with Powell and Loye working off each other so well.
When I have time, my own favorite book series to read at this time of the year is The Dark Is Rising Sequence , by Susan Cooper.

Maybe there are other hidden treasures here. =D

Right now I'm reading Demon Dog by Ally Blue. While the characters are familiar, the style is a bit different then all of her other books and I'm not sure how I feel about it. Has anyone else read it? Will post a review when I'm done!

I would be interested in what you thought about the first part in the series Oleander House. I never got through the book because the monsters scared me away, so, although the blurbs of the following installments sound intriguing, I'm not brave enough to ty again... ;)

The monsters are scarey - the idea of something that you're not able to see or do anything about is just terrifying. However, I really liked the characters and the story, so it was well worth reading, as is the rest of the series.

I love these books, I don't find them scary tho, just about to start Demon Dog :D

I'm currently reading Missouri Dalton's The Hanged Man's Ghost and I'm enjoying it immensely.

OMG Tied Up In Tinselis on that list. I read that a million years ago. I wonder if I still have a copy.

I LOVE Nick and Nora! Great series of movies.

@Lady*M: Maddening! The man's a verbal magician. Although I've seen the movie, I still couldn't put the book down -- even though the characters made me feel soiled.
So my aunt just told me about this non-fiction tome about how kids grow up to be, or are born, different from their parents. Examples are kids born deaf to hearing parents or gay/transgender kids born to straight parents. It's called Far from the Tree: Parents, Children, and the Search for Identity.
It's a tome, and pricy, but I glanced through it and it looks like it would be a good read for anyone interested in the topic and for parents/families who have kids that aren't like them.
I just bought it and will give it a try. It'll likely take me ten years to read it though, so I can't promise a review right after Christmas. We'll see how it goes.

Thanks for sharing, K.Z. I read the first couple of chapters in a bookstore once, but decided not to buy the book as I'm squeamish about certain subjects. Looks like I made the right choice (for me).

You probably did, Pender. But I give Lehane a whole lot of credit for being able to write such an absorbing story while making his characters so odious. I'll definitely be reading more of his work. He's a remarkable writer.

Had damadged kindle replaced and Christmas is a good excuse for a little indulgence ;)
I like mysteries but Josh's are the only real m/m ones I seem to have read.
Or maybe some of those non racist/phobic Sheriffs? ;)
Currently re-reading 'The Administration' series and the 'Shadow of the Templer' books, but craving something new (new to me).

Or maybe Amor En Retrogrado, Death by Misfortune or The Elegant Corpse by A.M. Riley.

Have you read the Psycop series by JCP? They are paranormal mysteries and the first book starts off with:
Once upon a time if you told doctors you heard voices, they'd diagnose you as schizophrenic, put you on heavy drugs, and lock you away in a cozy state institution to keep you from hurting yourself or others.
Nowadays they test you first to see if you're psychic.
Excellent books. I love them.

I've read the first one and it's ok but for some reason JCP's writting never fully meshes with me, can't pin down why.
Thanks for the suggestion though :)

Me four, those were my first m/m books, then I discovered Josh's books and the rest is history ..;)

For me it was the opposite. I discovered JCP soon after I finished Adrien, while in withdrawal. Great medicine :)

I think someone from this group recommended them to me. I like to pass the love around :)

And thank you for everyone who recommended the Regularly Scheduled Life for me when I was asking about K.A. Mitchell books. I finished it last night and I actually liked it a lot. It was very difficult to put down. And as for the sex in the book: (view spoiler)
I'm currently reading Simple Gifts by L.B. Gregg and listening The Lion of Kent audiobook by Aleksandr Voinov and Kate Cotoner. Both books are good ones and worth reading. :)

The writing craft is a little inconsistent within the story, but I didn't mind. It was very entertaining. I enjoyed the mystery too. ;-p

I'm saving the Third You Die for the spring break. I enjoyed First You Fall and Second You Sin — although I liked the first one better. :)

Thanks Johanna. At around $10 a pop I don't know if I'll be getting the others. I am happy enough where this one ended, and I'm not feeling the addiction for more. But it was plenty fun and had some very repeatable one liners! lol

Spine Intact, Some Creases by Victor J. Banis went down in price!
The kindle edition is now $4.39 USA and 2.55 pounds UK amazon!
So I of course bought mine! yay....

I really LOVED American Gods! It is my favorite of Gaiman's books. I don't care for his young adult stuff much.
