I seem to have missed this one too - Yay I've now got a new book to read ;) thanks.
Tigerland is a nice visit with old friends, and I've got Special Forces on my list of books to read :)

It took a long time for me to get around to it, 'cause the blurb and cover didn't do much for me either.

I've read a whoooooole lot of sff over the years, in addition to the mm romance I've been reading lately. This is a very very rare book in that, IMNSHO, it can stand up to scrutiny from both the sf and romance perspectives. It has very interesting and logically consistent ideas about identity, reality, and humanity throughout the book -- and it also has a very sweet and moving romance.

The sf ideas *are* important and prominent throughout the book, so anyone who has a serious allergy to sfness should probably stay away. Otherwise, I highly recommend it.

And they are very fun, too. And she writes well, no clunky language or cringe-worthy grammatical or spelling mistakes, just light and elegant prose. I definitely recommend them. Eagerly awaiting no 4 :)

I hope my luck holds out. ^^

And, since we mentioned Gravedigger's Ball earlier...I think that's a GREAT Halloween read. Ghosts! Yikes!

Oh they're very entertaining! And I don't say that merely because LB is one of my best friends. She has a knack for writing humor (one of the hardest things to do) and she writes blazing hot sex scenes, so you put all that together and you're in for a highly entertaining read.

Interesting that the Men of Smithfield titles were changed/dropped in the re-edit/re-issue. I have these four from before they went out-of-print (so to speak).

Gobsmacked - #1 Mark and Tony
Cover Me - #2 Max and Finn
Happy Ending - #3 Seth and David
In and Out - #4 Adam and Holden

I've been hoping for a Romano and Albright 3... great fun!

Reggie Me, of the bulging TBR file, just purchased- How to Repair a Mechanical Heart by J.C. Lillis How to Repair a Mechanical Heart. My feed is being dominated by this one. It is a YA read, it has a road trip to a CON and it has Fandom references. Looks fun and different. I am not much into the YA coming-out books, but this looks different enough to be interesting. I am supposed to be upstairs painting my new office conversion not succumbing to Amazon! Off I go.. then I can read my book when I'm done.;-p

I read this back in August and there was some discussion about it's availability (you can type the title in this page's search window and find the posts discussing this). So is it available through Rainbow now or did you order your copy through Manifold? Absolutely lovely book, highly recommended.

Seems to be only from Manifold. Liked the excerpt enough to buy it, feel uncomfortable about getting the email full of disclaimers after purchasing it though! that and the 'within 48-72hrs' for an ebook -- please say their more professional/reliable than they sound?

Didn't know you could do that search thing, thanks, I'll try that now.

I found the College Boys series (now at 8 books) to be reliable sweet-hot-young, though the installments are uneven in quality. She's particularly good at capturing the "young" (emotionally) aspect of college-age characters. They're nicely priced and rather addictive fast reads. They're intended to be readable in any order, though for me, the best so far (Pride and Politics) had its impact only because we'd met one of the main characters (a definite bad guy, potentially redeemable) in two prior books.

I'm currently reading Quinn's Need (Whispering Pines Ranch, #2) by S.J.D. Peterson , Book 2 of SJD Peterson's Angsty Cowboys Seri-- er, I mean Whispering Pines Ranch. :-) Picked up the whole series when the publisher offered a discount on all titles by GayRomLit attendees.

Nice pageturners if you enjoy cowboys and love triangles, and don't mind a bit of weepiness in your characters.

How scary is it? I have an extremely low threshold for creepiness and pre-ordered this book because I like the author's writing and didn't appreciate that it was scary (yes, I missed the clue in the title). Haven't dared read it yet... Is it safe for a real wimp?

It has a couple scare parts, but all in all, not too bad. It's actually pretty funny too. But, true...might not be for everyone. :)

I didn't think it was that scary, I read it during the night and it didn't bothered me at all. Eerie, but not over the top. I laughed a lot, so... I think you'll be all right if you read it during the day. Don't miss the fun. ^^

ttg | 305 comments Just spent quite a few days reading The God Eaters. Very long book, but a very good m/m fantasy romance read, great world-building and character development. (And very romantic. There is sex, but it's not explicit.) It's available in paperback, but you can also read the whole thing online for free from the author's website. Highly recommended if you like fantasy.

Not exactly a freebie, but a gem anyway... at least for those who have a soft spot for Vic and Jacob — or Halloween. A Brand New PsyCop short story, 1.99 dollars at http://jcpbooks.com:

In the Dark (PsyCop, #6.1) by Jordan Castillo Price

Here's the blurb:

Halloween is fun...at least, it's supposed to be. Costumes, candy, trick-or-treat, even jaded Victor Bayne can get behind those sorts of antics. Too bad this year's Halloween is a grownup event. Not only must Vic don a suit and endure a disco-obsessed DJ, he has to mingle with friends of Jacob's he would much rather ignore.

Vic thinks he has the party's host all figured out--but as he so often realizes, once he looks beneath the surface, things are seldom what they seem.

Unfortunately, no m/m romance made the romance category, but they left a space for a write-in vote. :D With enough write-ins, it's possible for some m/m titles to get through to the next round. (I voted for Shattered Glass by Dani Alexander.)

HJ | 3603 comments I just finished Conduct Unbecoming. I liked it very much - L.A. Witt is so good, and it was interesting to see her love of Okinawa shining through. But I found it difficult to relax and enjoy the book, because the MCs' positions seemed so hopeless. I kept putting off reading the next few chapters because I dreaded what might happen!

Fortunately, there isn't too much angst and I know I'll love to re-read it and really revel in the excellent writing. And if I ever travel that way it is a very good guide book to the attractions of the island! I'd like it to be required reading for all US military posted there, but somehow I doubt that will happen...

Anne | 6816 comments I just read How to Raise an Honest Rabbit by Amy lane, which is about some of the side carachters in The Winter Courtship Rituals of Fur Bearing Critters. A sweet story, not quite as angst-filled as some of her books, but some angst still and enjoyable like all her books are. Makes me want to start knitting again though ;)
