Sadly true.

I've always been curious about your collaboration with Laura Baumbach, Mexican Heat. I've spent more than a bit of time guessing who wrote what, particularly in respect to the action and sex scenes. I'm curious about how this works. (On one GR live discussion the authors talked about dialoguing back and forth through iChat or something similar.)

Also, I'm about midway in Boystown 4: A Time For Secrets, but took a break to read Kim Fielding's Good Bones. Although one of the MCs is a werewolf, it was about much more than that and a very good read. (The cover doesn't do it justice.)
I read I Hunt Killers by Barry Lyga. So far, so good. Everyone say it's like Dexter meets YA. I don't entirely agree, but it's a good attention grabber. Tagline:
It was a beautiful day. It was a beautiful field.
Except for the body.

I woke up craving -- you're all going to laugh at me, I just know it -- Mary Renault fan fiction.
Specifically for Mask of Apollo. Not sure why, what I must have been dreaming to prompt this hankering, but so it is. Today is a day of magazines and fan fiction. I've fallen behind on my PWs again.

lol, that is kinda funny. But you know, there are days when I crave fanfic too. Though they seem to be happening less and less these days the longer I stay away from the community.
Josh wrote: "Well, let's just say I have been reading a lot of Harper lately. ;-)"Ah. I was hoping it might be that :D
I'm rereading Clare London's 72 Hours. I'm always rereading Freeman, so I decided to change the flavor. XD

Basically there wasn't much. Very disappointing. I'm not sure why I had the idea that there would be much out there.

What I particularly loved about the Renault community were the in-depth discussions of the books. I eventually got too busy to participate, but always intended to join in again. It has to be one of the most civil and intellectual of fandoms.

She's got several things coming up -- a new short story in a couple of weeks, a new contemporary novel called Half Moon Chamber, a monk/viking historical that I think is intended for Samhain, and then the sequel to Last Line.

Well, it is just a short story. And the first draft is complete. It shouldn't be *too* lengthy a process.

Yes, I'd like to know it as well. Lady*M didn't say it, and I see some diverging opinions in the GR reviews.
Just finished by Jane Davitt/Alexa SnowBound and Determined, Truthful Change and the following by K.Z. Snow The Zero Knot and Fugly. The last one I just found out is actually part of a series..ugh, and I started at #9.. Hate it when that happens :D But I really enjoy the premise of Fugly, as it touchs on something close to my heart. I will probably delve into the others in the series later.

I am less than a quarter in and, so far, it's mainly world building and getting to know the main players. I like it, but I suspect you need to be a fantasy fan in the first place to fully enjoy it. The author wanted to write a fantasy noir and I can see the skeleton of it. I heard that the story pick up significantly once all three MCs meet. I can see some intriguing stuff on the horizon. ^^

It's definitely aimed at the traditional fantasy readership and NOT the m/m readership. So of course the reviews will be mixed as traditional fantasy readers recoil in horror :-D and m/m readers are left without a lot of emotional satisfaction.
I give the author full marks for daring to write gay characters in an ungay world.

Another I finished last night Caged was much darker, and probably felt more extreme since it started out so sugary sweet. Since it was a kindle-free-read, I tried not to be too critical, but it does show what self-publishing vice having a good editor can do in tightening up a story, and the editor may help a writer 'polish' their end product.

I've heard there are some hot M/M action though (I'm not there yet) so maybe M/M readers could find something to look forward to. ~_^

There are a few of main stream fantasy writers that are including LBGT characters in their novels. I read Carol Berg's stuff and she is pretty straight laced fantasy, but in all her "worlds" she includes LGBT characters. One or two of her protagonists are bisexual.
She hasn't come out and written an LGBT couple yet, but for someone that writes epic fantasy inspired by Tolkien to write LGBT characters and all, well, it's a great step forward, methinks. :)
Josh wrote: "B-b-b-but I thought youse guys only cared about the way we conjugated our verbs!!??"It depends on the verbs. XD

Conjugal activities, yes. Conjugated verbs? What's that? LMAO! You know, that's a good way to teach someone a Romance language... "Let's conjugate the verb 'follar' in the Indicative Mode and Present Tense: Yo follo, Tú follas, Él/Ella folla..."
Ooooo, I just saw something on Fiction With Friction that made me want to drop everything and re-read Angel Land (Victor J Banis). Well, I'll drop everything right after I stop giggling my head off over verb-abuse, and cruise Fugly. ;)

was wonderful, but I'm still waiting for the sequel. I even tried to ask the author and never got an answer. I guess we are spoiled with Josh ;-)

I just finished A Hole in God's Pocket, and even though I wish it was longer, it was very insightful, and touching.

I loved both those books. I've tried one of his sci-fi books but haven't been able to get into it so far. The fantasy ones are great though - I really Like Ringil; he's flawed but interesting. And to me he seems very angry - perhaps unsurprisingly given the world he lives in.

I just read Armed & Dangerous which was fun, and then I of course had to start Warrior's Cross. It is well written but I am not quite sure what to make of it, I am waiting to learn more about the protags but I have an idea I won't be satisfied. In between I also read Night Train to Lisbon: A Novel in the Norwegian version. Something completely different, kind of an old fashioned feel to it, but very good. The kind of book you have to read slowly so not to miss anything.

Only recently have I learned that the books are sorted by the love interest, into gay, straight, m/m, m/f, f/f and so on. I guess in a way it makes sense. On the other hand I sometimes wish for a world where that didn't matter one little bit, that the only thing one should care about is whether the book is well written, the characters interesting, the plot believable and the whole story leaving you with an impact on your emotions. For me that is much more important than the plumbing of the protags.;)I guess I have been a little bit naïve..
