Finished "Zero", read the three shorts on Jane Seville's web site for desert! Will check out the discussion, thanks!

It is a journal, NOT a plot. It is a clever piece of writing. The narrator is writing a letter/journal to his (male) SO. It is cleverly done because it presumes the listener (SO) is in the know, yet the author subtly lets the reader (me) into the background story. See! I can't even write it in a sentence but this author kept it up throughout the story (meanwhile switching time frames)! It was baffling and astonishing at the same time. And the scenery was beautiful! (No, not THAT kind of scenery.....OutDoor scenery....)
It was hard for me to get through, because I had to be awake enough to concentrate, but not TOO awake, so I could sit still. ;-D
It was worth the 99 cent risk, I paid for it! =D

Just finished Dangerous Ground #3 yesterday. That was a perfect read for my day trip. Started it in the morning and finished it just before reaching my destination in the early afternoon. Love those guys so much! I still think I like the first book in the series best though, but the more I read the more I have to know what happens next!
And so, right now, I'm reading Mahu Fire. Whenever I read the Mahu books, I like to say I'm on vacation in Hawaii, because I certainly feel like I'm right there with Kimo. Gosh, Neil's got talent in descriptions!

Thanks Johanna. Oksanen has been on my radar for a while, she is definitely translated, so after your recommendation I shall give her a try.

You're not wrong :)

It's surprisingly well written. I found it! YEAY!

I also read Mysterious Skin, a book that made a big impact. It is very well written and deals with a painful issue in an original way. I am a little thrown by the last part though, wondering if some of the details were written like that for the shock value only or if it was necessary to the story. I saw the book was compared to Dennis Cooper's writing, who in my opinion goes too far just to shock. I don't think this books was like that, except maybe at the end. It is the kind of book that I have to work with afterwards and it stays in my mind for a while. Which is good, I suppose.

Do you find the single author much different from the pairing?

No more coffee por vous! ;-p"
Well yeah, that goes without saying. But what is with the reply to a post that somehow changes the book to a different book?
Something is seriously messed up in their database because this has been going on for over a week.
A week being -- apparently -- the limit of my patience. :-D

I've been wondering that same thing about the covers too.
About the book, I had no idea the series was now written by one author instead of two. I'm curious to see if it's any better. lol. This is just one of those series where people either love it or hate it, and sadly, I was on the hate it end, no matter how much I tried to like it. Well, the first book in the series anyway.

Every time they do some kind of update or add some new gimmick something other goes wrong... this is one of the more bugging malfunctions. :(
So. Flipping. Annoying.
How can you have a book discussion when half the people are looking at the wrong book?

I just finished Mahu Fire (purposefully NOT putting in the cover for fear it might turn into something else!) yesterday and it was good. Really good. Well, Neil Plakcy is just amazing. I will say this mystery was a little more confusing than some of his others, but not by much.
Apparently my grandfather and I are going to keep swapping books every time I come to visit now. He had to read Mahu Fire when I was done with it, just to see what it was like. (I tried to explain that it was book three in a series, but he didn't seem to hear me until he was finished with it.) He skimmed through it in an afternoon, pronounced "all these mystery books" too complicated and said the book wasn't too bad after all the "garbage." I didn't want to ask what the "garbage" was, so I have no clue what he was talking about. The best I can figure is that he meant the murders and the bombings. lol, that was a little awkward, especially knowing it's MM and not het romance. But at least he didn't throw the book at me and denounce everything in it, I suppose. Will he attempt to read the next MM romance I bring home? Who knows. If it's print, he might. But he's afraid of accidentally ordering a book on a kindle so he won't touch my kindle. lol. I have to say, I never imagined him to pick up books like that, but at his age (88) I guess it's not really a bad thing for him to be so adventurous. lol.
Well, anyway, that's been my book experience with my second (and final) mini vacation for awhile. I'm currently reading Amaranth & Ash and it's pretty good. The gender neutral character really is gender neutral, with all the body parts to go with it, which makes for an interesting read, sex scenes and otherwise. But that's all I can say for now. Once I get to the end, I can probably say a bit more on it.

It seems that administration does know about the bug and it's on the to-do list. http://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/8...
They say, that there will be another update in a week or so and after that they'll fix the wrong-bookcover-bug.

And then I think this is only in one's head and the real monsters are for ex. the (probably mafia) people who this morning put a bomb in a school in southern Italy killing a 16 years old girl and injuring 7 others...

Too funny - I saw this in my GR newsfeed, and had no idea you were talking about book covers. I just assumed that there were identical titles, which is something I run into a lot here at the library. My understanding is that you can't copyright a title, so multiple books can be released at the same time with the same title but different authors.
Even better? I requested a title for myself thru Interlibrary loan - AND GOT THE WRONG BOOK! Turns out there were 2 books with the same title, and basically about the same subject. I read the "wrong" one, then requested the "right" one. Turns out I liked the "wrong" one better :D

And then I think this is only in one's head an..."
There are no monsters so scary as the ones who live and breathe among us.. I read about it this morning, these things make me so angry, and so sorry for that lovely young girl and her family.
Oh it bugs me when patrons come in looking for a title but don't know the author. And then I have to tell them that there are ten books with that title all by difference authors. Usually I end up having to send them home to find out who the author is because they have no clue and they don't want me reading all the summaries to them. And all they have to go on is a simple title. Really irks me.

I'm ... I don't know, shocked doesn't begin to cover it, because Italy has a known history of terrorism, but never were kids an intentional target. Never. We're doing nothing for our younger generations and on top of that people are killing them. I'm outraged, and mad, and I can't stop crying.

Weird, as my message #8365 has the right bookcover, but the responses have some bookcover for a book called 'Zack'? Anyway, to answer your question, Josh, on the pairing of two authors, vice the single author, she hasn't disappointed me so far :) I haven't completed the book yet, but am in the process of doing so, and then I can respond more realistically. From what I understood, the author typically wrote one of the MCs, and the other author wrote the other MC, so this should be interesting to see if she was able to be true to the other 4 books. I will try once again to post the correct book here :D

I saw the movie for Mysterious Skin and I know I was very pulled in to the storyline. I'm thinking the book would have been even more uncomfortable for me,as they are usually more detailed, and you can take what comes at a different pace, but it did leave me a lot to think about when it was finished. Very thought provoking.

And create three new bugs in the process. It's an adventure!

I'm always fascinated by writing partnerships.
Truthfully, this book could be better than the previous books. Sometimes one strong, primary vision is better than collaboration which always means compromise.

Yup. One of my friends works in a bookstore and gets questions like that all the time.
Of course for me, people assume I can view a cover in my database when I look to see if we have something on shelf. They don't understand that I'm not always using the online catalog, where you can view the covers. So when they don't know the author, or they don't know the title, they start describing the cover. Oiy.
Sometimes for things like that, Amazon is my best friend. The catalog is terrible because you can't spell anything wrong in it, or it will tell you that book doesn't exist, when indeed it does. Some titles I hate looking up for that very reason. I know I'll never remember how to spell Fehrenheight for Ray Bradbury's "F451". lol.

Josh, you sound like you have insider info. Care to share with the class?

I knew you would make me say them out loud. ;) Okay... *takes a deep breath*... here we go (and Anne, correct me if I'm wrong here *grin*):
Kit is overly organized and he likes peace and quiet. He is extremely stubborn and he would like to live his life in a very secure environment. He is terrible with small talk and with expressing his feelings outright. A typical Scandinavian middle-aged man. :)
