What else are you reading? (June 2010 - May 2013) *closed*

Yes, you can read pdf documents on the Kindle."
You can, but I strongly recommend converting them to mobi first. PDFs are fixed font (usually way too small). Calibre will convert these and it's free.

Yeah, don't get the wrong idea. She delivers on story and quality of writing like she always does. I have a complaint re story, but frankly, if I had loved the way she ended the whole, I wouldn't say much about the other. Again, to be clear, there was your happy ending, and it'll no doubt be the one some readers dearly wished for. It just wasn't the one I wished for. Definitely a strong rec nevertheless for everyone contributing here.
Re the Manna Francis books, I believe that the Casperian print books are POD. They are very nicely designed. I ordered a set after reading the free online text. It's unfortunate about the limited (un)availability of this series as ebooks. I'm guessing the rights are tied up. Casperian floated an ebook version of Mind Fuck that didn't do very well (per Manna's blog) and decided not to release any of the others electronically. I'm sure the confusing formatting issues contributed to poor ebook sales. I don't know why a .mobi or .prc version couldn't have been made available. It's a shame, because this is an amazing series and really deserves a wider audience.

Good idea. I have to say "Primal Red" didn't even do it that much for me. I am so glad I kept on reading the series, though!
I love it and my favorite is still "Baby, it's cold outside". It has this classy crime story feeling to it: snow, cabin, one of them the murderer..

That's exactly what I did. After reading the stories bit by bit as free read, I couldn't resist buying the print ones. I'm afraid I favor ebooks these days, so yeah, the lack of them with this particular series was frustrating. But... let's look at it this way: Toreth and Warrick are so worth of all the struggling!!! LOL. And I couldn't agree more, when you say that the series is amazing and deserves wider audience!

Chances are I won't read book 3, I overlooked it when I bought them on B&N's website and when I realized -- after I had read book 5 -- it just didn't sound interesting enough, also I'd rather save up for book 6.

Hmmm... if I remember correctly #3 Body and Soul has a wonderful Thanksgiving dinner scene with Jacob's family in it and some nice moments with Crash and his, ah, so lovable attitude! :)

But it's Vic and Jacob!!!
I really hate it when I realise I've missed books out or read them out of order. I read Josh's I-Spy books in the wrong order (I wasn't paying attention - I got carried away with the 50% off codes on the website :D) and I couldn't get the first one ordered quick enough once I realised my mistake!

One of the best scenes in the series indeed!

Like you needed a lot of persuading!
:D

That does look good. I might have to add it to my tbr list.

Vivian's fault!
Oh, Antonella!
I am going to buy the book now. My penance for having lured you into reading it. :D

That's probably my favorite too, although I've enjoyed every one of them. She writes a nice solid mystery and she really does have her characters try to investigate. Such a relief. So much of what passes for mystery in this genre amounts to people running around like chickens with their heads cut off.

Where there are no JCP or Josh Lanyon books and only Twilight and 50 Shades of Grey to keep you company. And of course the only TV shows you can watch are Toddlers and Tiaras or Keeping up with the Kardashians.
Are you still sure you want to skip book 3? ;)

YES! I loved that Thanksgiving scene. Trust me, you cannot skip a Psycop book. Go back and reread it. You'll love it, even if it's just for those little moments between the guys. And I believe there were a few good ones in that story.

OUCH! Cleon, that sounds like pure torture. But, it would be appropriate for someone who skips book three of Psycop.
I have to say, that bathroom scene in the middle of Thanksgiving dinner really was sweet. I loved rereading it a few times recently.

Oh goodness gracious, NOoooo! *dunks brain on bleach*
I have read PsyCop 3, you know! I am good with the angels of hot m/m romance.

I loved to read how they chose their home. It's also cool to read how their relationship evolved.

God, how I hate that. Plus, there is this impression that if you wait long enough, wish it strong enough, the right clue will fall right into your lap.

One of the reasons I love your books. If your reader is observant enough, and has a bit of logic training, he or she should be able to know or have a strong idea of who the whodunit is at the time of the denouement. Every single book you have written follows that golden rule, and for that I am grateful. That's a good solid mystery.
I hate it when a mystery does not follow logic and the whodunit turns out to be some outrageous plot twist that doesn't fit and doesn't have any breadcrumb trail to trace it back. It makes me want to throw the book against the wall.
As you can tell, I am very picky about my mysteries. :D

There's a very popular mainstream romantic suspense author whose stories drive me up the wall. Without even reading the story I can tell you who the killer is. Within the first 1/3 or so of the story there will be a character who makes it into maybe 2 scenes and has a half dozen lines, max. Then you never see them again. That's the killer. They may not even be mentioned in passing by the other characters until the next to last scene, when they come back on stage to explain why they've been killing people. Unless you're watching for them, you probably won't even remember that the heroine has a brother, or whatever. What's the point in that?

This is exactly why I joined in here. I've gotten cowardly with my book budget. There are plenty of books by my go-to authors in this genre that I have yet to read, but you all are giving me a bit more courage.
I'm like Vivian, but I do e-books, and throwing my laptop against the wall... is to be avoided at all costs! ;P
Sooooo... I know I've been talking a lot about Jordan Castillo Price lately, but... I finished reading Mnevermind 1: The Persistence of Memory yesterday and I think we truly are in for a treat with this series. I though it was absolutely brilliant! I know that some of you might be busy reading Magic Mansion and The Starving Years, but I think you should not miss this one! I'm not going to add my review here, but the story is such a beautiful love story in so many levels. It's a story about guilt and change and acceptance and fantasies and... it's written in such a visual way, it's overwhelming. I loved it (can you tell?).
So, Antonella, you have to read it, even though the series isn't completed yet! ;)

I didn't mean to wait till the series is complete, but at least to the second book. I'll think about it...

It would be one thing if we could see them cogitating the problem like the old master detectives, so maybe there isn't a lot of interviewing and investigating, but instead lots of reasoning and psychology and deducing. But no. Mostly lots of luck and happy coincidence.

Thank you. My aim is not to trick the reader -- the solution should make sense to the reader. The reader should be able to figure it out once he has all the clues. What I enjoy is the characterization and the motivation.

Thank you!

Yes (Zane) - I think it gets mentioned in Cut & Run, especially towards the end. I can't remember how much it's mentioned in Sticks & Stones. Mentioned a bit in Fish & Chips. (And will be starting the 4th one soon so not sure about that one).

Well I hope you enjoy every book in the series!"
Yes, enjoying a lot, thanks! Completely within my safety zone with these.

I added this to my reading list, thanks for the tip Johanna. The blurb reminds me of the series "Fringe".
Ooooh! Dangerous Ground! *drools* I have them all, but I'm parsing them out, so I've read the first two so far. Terrible of me, I know. It really does kill. I'll have to add book three to my current reading lineup! And if I magically finish the two print books I'm taking with me for my four day vacation, I know I'll be reading book 3 next on my Kindle!

I'm kind of eager to write the fifth DG book, Kickstart, but I don't want to get moving on it until the rights revert on the last book that Loose Id currently holds. But that's okay. I'm unexpectedly feeling creative again -- unexpected because last month I really did think that desire to write just might not ever come back.
I think accepting that it might not come back -- combined with the fact that I had set a mental deadline on finishing a little short story -- somehow triggered...or maybe it's nothing to do with either of those things.
Anyway, I suddenly feel more creative again. More energetic.

All your readers and friends here are very glad to hear that!
I do think a lot of it had to do with accepting that it might take a lot longer than I was thinking. That came from listening to you and so many others.
I think letting go and accepting that it might be months, might even be (gulp) a couple of years freed something up inside me.
I don't know.
