What else are you reading? (June 2010 - May 2013) *closed*
Yep, Josh is great with the sex scenes. So is Jordan Price. Oh, and let's never forget our very own Anne T. Her sex scenes sizzle like nothing I've ever read before. (I think she needs to ghost write for me on occasion. lol.)
I've been known to skim sex scenes a lot. But these authors? No way.
Sean Michael, I skim every one of them. Well, when I read this one trilogy by her and then decided her books weren't what I was interested in reading. Thankfully I've gotten much better at picking out the good books from the bad.

I meant (view spoiler)

Breathe is angsty, beautifully written IMO, but I'm not sure I like the story, the romance begins from very tragic circumstances and I have no idea how the author will make it work.
Bear, Otter, etc. has a story that I'm interested in, characters I want to succeed, but the narrator is EXHAUSTING, I'm going mad.

Exhausting because of the lenghty inner monologues and flashbacks? Or because of the nine years old going on fifty? ;-)

Inner monologue and flashbacks *shudders*
I like the Kid, one of my little cousins was (and still is, even if he's 20 now, lol) like that, jaw dropping. There are moments when the Kid is really too old, but some quirks are close to those of a very smart kid obsessed with something.

Exhausting bec..."
I absolutely loved Bear, Otter, and the Kidand its sequel Who We Are. I agree that Bear the narrator goes on and on, but that is how he is :) The Kid reminds me very much of my 11 year old nephew who has a double diagnosis of ADD and Asperger's Syndrome. He is a smart guy and can get completely obsessed with one issue. And talks like a grown up, that is actually a part of the syndrome. He is very cute though. :)

I keep forgetting to replace this. I loaned it to a friend and she keeps managing to "forget" to give it back. :-D

Oh Josh... now you know to never lend books out to people! lol. Especially those beloved titles.
I recently got a stamp made that says "From the library of..." with my name on it. I've been stamping all my print books just in case someone does borrow them. Besides, they look pretty cool with that stamp. MY books!

I had that happen once when I was in college. Actually, I'd even written my name in it too. I took a class, bought the book, my best friend took the class the following semester and I said he could save some money and borrow my copy. It wasn't until he mentioned to a group of friends that the bookstore wouldn't take it back that I realized he'd forgotten he'd borrowed it! In the end, I let him keep it. And it turns out, it wasn't a book I would ever need in the future anyway, so I guess it's good.
Last time I let someone borrow a book, it was Dean Koontz's first ever published book. Dumb idea to lend it, but I refused to forget who had it and I kept asking her how it was, as a reminder that I wanted it back!
I'll never do that with special books again. That was an agonizing few months for me.

Don't blame you. One further comment, a thought I had: Writers sometimes seem to get a particular hair and follow it faithfully through, like it or don't, their vision uncompromised. That was my impression w/this, and sometimes that's a wonderful thing. Or sometimes there's some torture involved.

Am reading it now. Love it so far. Boy, Fox gives value, doesn't she?

I was, for the first time, disappointed in something she wrote, for a couple of reasons. Don't want to risk a spoiler. Would be very interested to get others' reactions after having read both parts.

Darling, you need some print books for emergency backup! :-D

Thank goodness! I was imagining you being days without it :( (I'm hugging my Kindle a little closer today.)

Oh, God, yes. I'm now reading

The same happened with mine several times and the last time it didn't ever wake up again. I called Amazon support and they sent me a new Kindle for free, and it took only three days before it arrived! Very impressive. They told me that it froze because of the leather cover I was using, so I bought a new cover (a fancy blue one with lights)
I always have paper books lying about as well (I cannot seem to stop buying them) so even without my Kindle I am never wiithout reading material. That is my greatest fear, to be stuck somewhere without anything to read. Nightmare :)

I have quite the TBR print-pile but it's uninspiring :D

I was minutes away from clicking the buy-button, I was thinking: I buy it now, it'll arrive on Wednesday, one day I can do :)

Part of it is the englishness (I probably just invented that word) I think, I am secretly in love with all things English (including Irish and Scottish as well). Nothing against American writing and American authors either, it is just that English was my first love.

Also, I finished Turning Idolater by Edward C. Patterson. I don't know why this book isn't more popular. Great, great writing, mystery, love story.

How on earth shall I survive this site? JCP is one of my favorites so Magic Mansion is definitely on my buying-list, and even more so after this recommendation. And Turning Idolater really triggered my interest. Thanks for both recommendations. (My Visa card on the other hand doesn't thank you at all) :)

It's really witty, useful and filled with humor. There were some interesting topics there; some of them made me feel vindicated. There were some parts about male characterization that I've been telling my fanfiction circles for ages and of course no one paid any mind when I said it. It was cool to know that a professional writer shares my thoughts on them.

Whereas she just doesn't work for me. Which just goes to show you that even if you have some reading tastes in common, that doesn't mean there won't be sharp divergences as well.

Also, I finished Turnin..."
I'd never heard of Turning Idolater before, and now the sample is on my Kindle because you recommend it so highly. If I'd stumbled across it outside this group I would have given it a pass. The cover copy is uninspiring at best. There are lots of reasons that books find their audience or don't. My guess is that the blurb is turning people away.

I asked her about it a couple of times but she was "still reading." So I'm donating it to the cause. ;-)
I don't mind. It's one of those books people want to hang onto, so I knew I'd probably never see it again.

I do regret one loan. It was a rare vintage hardcover. I never got that one back -- I even sent a letter after I moved away, but never got a reply. I found another copy years later but I don't loan valuable books anymore.

I'm glad. I think the book is a bit dated now -- if you include market info you're shortening your book's lifespan considerably -- but there's still lots of good stuff in it, if I do say so myself.

Yes, Magic Mansion was serialised, but it is now complete.
I enjoyed a lot the fact that one of the MC is much older than the usual protagonists of m/m books. And there is a fresh take on ''behind-the-scenes'' happenings of a reality show.
And don't forget The Starving Years ;-)

I don't know why the cover would make the screen freeze so it wasn't possible to read on the kindle, but the thing is they accepted that it was some kind of production failure or something and gave me a new one for free. Which is all I care about :) It does sound kind of strange. But I didn't really feel like arguing against them you know ;)

Another fantasy writer I would highly recommend is Ginm Hale. Her book Wicked Gentlemen was fanstastic and I'm not making my way through The Rifter Series while on vacation.
Oh yeah, and Mercedes Lackey's series The Last Herald Mage. It's old school fantasy written in 1990, but the main character is gay and has a relationship that's integral to the plot. It's a trilogy. And these days you can only get them seperately, not all in one book unless you buy it used like I did. Magic's Pawn, Magic's Promise, and Magic's Price are the three books.
I just bought another trilogy she wrote that's set in the same kingdom of Valdemar, but there's no M/M to it. These came before she wrote the other series. We'll see how they are when I get there. ... like my coffee table needs more books to weigh it down, right? lol.
