Not really. Until Jeremy, I though Rathbone is the most convincing Holmes. I think it's because of his voice, since his expression range is exactly - one. I never liked his counterpart, though. He played Dr. Watson as dumb and I hated that.
I googled the show and realized that I watched it, lol. I usually like Brit series, but this one left me pretty indifferent. Sherlock is easy on the eye, though, and Watson guy is new Bilbo Baggins. XD
Lauraadriana wrote: "I just finished Marlowe's Ghost by Sarah Black that came out this week, and it was absolutely fantastic. She takes on the legend of Kit Marlowe and does it so well. Loved that book."I'm reading it now as well. I've loved everything by Sarah Black till now, even one het story!

Ok, further research...
According to PBS ." Masterpiece mystery! premieres Sherlock, season 2, airing in three episodes: A Scandal in Belgravia (May 6, 2012) The Hounds of Baskerville (May 13, 2012) and The Reichenbach Fall (May 20, 2012) at 9pm on PBS "
According to postings on BBCA... series will be shown In May but on PBS first, as part of $$ drive. If you have multi-national DVD player apparently the UK DVD can be ordered now. (gossip)
Have FUN next week! Hope the weather holds nice for you... maybe you can get in some hiking. 8)

I'd suggest US Sherlock fans to get a VPN subscription and get onto BBC iPlayer UK version. All the season 2 episodes are there.
That's how I survived when living in US - and it only costs $5 a month.

I have stumbled across several books (+3) where the married Dad decides to come-out as gay/bi after getting involved with son's (18-20ish) good friend. I just can't wrap my mind around that enough to even sample it.
I would think the emotion involved with being honest at this stage inlife would be enormous. To compound that by being involved with son's friend sounds like a volcanic disater to me.
Does this happen enough to merit several different stories?
Is this believable?
I'm clueless on this one.
It sort of depends on the ages for me. I think 18/38 are different than 25/45, and 45/65 are very believable for me. On the other hand, sleeping with your friend's father? Ew.
Thinking about my father's friends, even ten years ago...ewww! I can't imagine that particular scenario is a common thing in real life. But May to December relationships/sex in general (god...where did I dig up that phrase from?) are not that unusual. Speaking from personal experience. ;-)
Josh wrote: "Lady*M wrote: "The only Sherlock for me is and always will be Jeremy Brett. .."You will laugh, I know, but I love Basil Rathbone and Nigel Bruce."
Basil Rathbone is still my favorite Sherlook Holmes, though the new guy (I've forgotten his name) is pretty darn good too.
Christopher wrote: "Kari wrote: "Must've been the singlet. ;-p "Maybe Josh has a thing for lycra."
I remember them being called 'string vests' and they were definitely not sexy. (Though there was that period in the 80's when mesh tank tops were all the rage.) Hmm.
Christopher wrote: "But May to December relationships/sex in general (god...wher..."Yeah, May / Dec. is common really. This other scenerio? I just can't buy into, nor do I find it an interesting concept. A train wreck in the making, with lots of injured. {shakes head}
Just finished Basic Training by Marquesate. It clarified for me something I prob shd have realized a long time ago. I first read Special Forces on line under only her name. I took fm that a bias toward her as the guiding voice there--one that I held onto and didn't want to let go--but that was surely Voinov, wasn't it?Basic Training lacked bite, or edge. The corners are too soft for my taste. I'll say that I think there will be plenty of readers in this group who won't react to this story that way. Marquesate's got a lot of talent, and this a nice, lengthy story w/good protagonists. Just me, I became bored w/it, prob about 2/3 of the way through.
Voinov is the one w/the gift that allows us a partnership w/out love that becomes love w/out our being aware until it's happened. It draws out the romantic interest to inordinate lengths. (He managed this in that vampire story he wrote as well. And actually, I wasn't nuts about that one.)
I suspect that Marquesate and Voinov may have complemented each other in Special Forces in a very special way, her sentiment softening his hard edges.

Where do you guys go on weekends? Are you only checking out the site at work?Anyway, just finishing Bad Boyfriend by K A Mitchell. VERY good stuff. One of the best.
Chapter 16 had my crying my eyes out at the end. Although this possibly might be because the guy I've been sort of seeing for the last two months has stopped returning my texts.
Anyway, highly recommend the book. Another glass of wine I think.
Oh Christopher, that's tough. Have another glass of wine and maybe a pint of ice cream to go with it (actually that sounds sort of nauseating, maybe just pick one). Love is grand, except when it isn't.
HI, Christopher!I read almost everything by KA Mitchell, always at 4 stars level, apart from ''Bad Company'' (3 stars). That's why I didn't try the sequel.
Too bad about the fella you were ''sort of seeing''. I suppose is not such comfort for you to know that some other people don't even ''sort of see'' someone... But admit you smiled just now ;-).
Buonanotte!

I mostly lurk every day, before and after work I should point out, since I'm a hard worker of course (and I don't have internet access at work).
Christopher, was it you that mentioned Parhelion way back when? I'm really enjoying his work. Thanks for the heads up and sorry about your guy troubles. Maybe it's not what you think. Maybe a taxi ran over his phone.
Thank you, internet people, for the emotional support! It's kind of a downer. He made me laugh.
Anyway, I've just joined a new gym (the same one where the Welsh National Rugby Team works out) so maybe I'll fall madly in love with an international sportsman next.

I just watched a documentary last night about gay men in professional sports. They interviewed Gareth Thomas, who was on the Welsh National team at the time, but alas, it looks like he's retired now. Maybe he still works out with the team occasionally? (Preferably with his dentures in!)
I read Bad Boyfriend a few days ago, and I loved it, too. K.A. Mitchell can be very hit or miss for me. Some of her stuff I love, some of it is kind of meh. But this one I finished and immediately started over again.
Christopher wrote: "...I've just joined a new gym (the same one where the Welsh National Rugby Team works out) so maybe I'll fall madly in love with an international sportsman next."This plan gets my vote, but with a caveat: some jocks stay jocks forevah. While this is stellar in many respects (how many 45yo men have six pack abs?), it also has its disadvantages (no, sweetie, you really really can't hang your jock off the bedroom doorknob, even for a little while, so not sexy, that's what God invented bathrooms for, kthnx). LOL
I only check in from work when it's slow, but ever since I got a helper for the pantry, I'm not hopping nearly as much. Weekends...This weekend, I'm writing.
KA Mitchell, I adore, btw. :D

So sorry about the man you "sorta" seeing. Hopefully things work out soon, or you find a new hot guy by working out. Okay, that is one bad pun. lol.

Mmm, rugby players. I wholeheartedly approve of this plan. *makes supreme effort to resist puns about tackling and tries*
OTOH relationships can really cut into one's reading time....Oh who cares? There are international sportsmen around!

I just finished Collision Course and I have to admit that even if I think the writing was good and the story interesting, there was way too much sex for my taste. Almost only sex, so much it got in the way of the story. Admittedly well written scenes, but I got bored. So a question to you guys, are all the other books the same? Her books get good reviews and I see that Josh recommends them, but frankly, if this is how all her books are constructed, I won't bother.
Anne wrote: "Antonella wrote: "there was way too much sex for my taste. Almost only sex, so much it got in the way of the story. Admittedly well written scenes, but I got bored. So a question to you guys, are all the other books the same?"''Collision Course'' is not my favorite, although it was good. I'm afraid the high number of sex scenes is quite typical for KA Mitchell. I've read the majority of her books a while ago, I suspect I would have your same reaction now ;-).
Slightly OT, but in fact we just talked about the book: today you have a chance to win
Marlowe's Ghost leaving a comment here
KA Mitchell's books are pretty heavy on the sex scenes, but I think Collision Course has a lot even for her! I think it should have been called Crash Course instead, because the book could be used as a quick lesson on the varieties of gay sex! Regularly Scheduled Life might be a little more to your taste, there are fewer sex scenes and the sex scenes aren't integral to the story like they were in CC so you can skip them if you want. For some reason I don't particularly care for the way she writes the sex scenes so I usually skim through them. The only problem I had with Regularly Scheduled Life was that the book starts with an already established couple so it took me a little while to get to know them.

That's good to know about her other books. I did read Regularly Scheduled Life and enjoyed it. The sex, as you said, didn't go overboard and didn't push away an actual plot.
Yeah, there's an established relationship, but it's also about whether they'll stay together or not after what happened. It was good. I'd recommend it.

Too true. Well, I dunno. Get two of them? One for reading and one for... Or get three. One for reading and the other two for... and you just watch and listen. Yeah?

@ Christopher-- Have you checked out Wave's web site? She has a post going asking for the guy's RL perspective on some of the things she reads in m/m. It's entertaining and if you want to give your input that would be great!

Thanks Reggie. I'll check these out!
I'm just over halfway through KA Mitchell's Not Knowing Jack and while it's very good, I find myself having difficulty having much sympathy at all for Jack! What a complete douche! Love Tony though.

I have gone wild on my Kindle this weekend, buying too many books as it is, and am in the middle of the Rifter, so I have to restrain myself a little.
The Rifter had the opposite problem- not enough sex scenes! All those damn fade to black moments... ; )

I forgive her for having (view spoiler)! Truly, good writing covers multitude sins. :P
The writing is excellent, the story spellbinding, and the world rich and detailed. There is nothing to forgive, except maybe my voyeuristic tendencies.
Cheryl wrote: "The writing is excellent, the story spellbinding, and the world rich and detailed. There is nothing to forgive, except maybe my voyeuristic tendencies."I know. I'm just kidding. I mean readers would usually rant and rave against a writer if they encounter some things they dislike, unless the writing is so superb the readers are left speechless. The Rifter is perfect. Everything serves a purpose in the story, even the food. lol.

I actually wondered a bit about that in the book, also because Joey was a self-declared slut, which probably involves some high-risk situations.

I definitely agree in your description of the "landlord"s stories. From my point of view, also the right amount of sex scenes.. ;)
