What else are you reading? (June 2010 - May 2013) *closed*

I haven't seen Sweeney Todd yet, it's in my to watch pile.
Burton is very good at what he does. I enjoyed his version of The Legend of Sleepy Hollow very much.

-> Army of Darkness - cracks me up every time.
-> Tales from the Crypt
-> Zombieland "
I love Army of Darkness! That is a fav of mine. However, The Evil Dead, scares the crap out of me - it's the tree scene
Zombieland had me laughing from the opening credits to the end credits
Another good Bruce Campbell movie that has horror elements is Bubba Ho-tep

Thanks Andy, I'll have to check that one out - especially if he's got that wickedly sarcastic sense of hu..."
It's typical Bruce.
Bubba Ho-tep is a 2002 black comedy film starring Bruce Campbell as Elvis Presley - now a resident in a nursing home. The film also stars Ossie Davis as Jack, a black man who claims to be John F. Kennedy (explaining that he was patched up after the assassination in Dallas, dyed black, and abandoned by Lyndon Johnson). The film was directed by Don Coscarelli. The title comes from a novella by Joe R. Lansdale which originally appeared in the anthology The King Is Dead: Tales of Elvis Post-Mortem.
While the novella and film revolve around an Ancient Egyptian mummy (played by Bob Ivy) terrorizing a retirement home, Bubba Ho-tep also involves the deeper theme of aging and growing old in a culture that values only the young. The film also features a cameo by Reggie Bannister, the cult hero of director Don Coscarelli's Phantasm series.

The Nightmare Before Christmas
Silence of the Lambs
Zombieland"
Silence of the Lambs was an excellent book and movie

So...it's not books, but everyone's favorite Halloween movie(s)? Name the top three (any order is okay)."
I like Monsters, Inc. ; ) I'm a big baby; it's one of the reasons I read romance! But I do like Wizard of Oz and Phantom of the Opera.
My daughter saw Paranormal 2 this past weekend. She thought it was scarier than the first one and she loves scary.

He's the reason I started watching Burn Notice. Army of Darkness is more comedy than horror.

I remember seeing part of Army of Darkness years ago, and it was pretty funny. (Or was I just in the right mood?)

That's a new one to me. What's it about?

I don't think I've ever managed to watch it all the way through. It freaks me out.

Zombieland was awesome campy horror. If you've seen Bill Murray as a zombie, you've seen Zombieland. Kinda hard to forget that, LOL

LC, I used to be the same about action-adventure. There was a time when I'd seen pretty much every kung fu movie ever made in this country or overseas. No amount of violence seemed to register. And now I'm flinching and wincing and closing my eyes...I can't take it anymore.

I thought Sleepy Hollow ultimately went over the top, but it's still an amazing film. What an atmosphere.

There r 4 books and they r free read on the author's site :)
and talking of FBI agents, is there any possibililty of a sequel to Fair Game ??

I don't think I've ever managed to watch it all the way through. It freaks me out."
I read the book to prepare myself for the movie -so I'd know when to look away. The book was excellent, hated the sequel. The movie was creepy but not as bloody as I had thought it would be.

I have an icon I use at my LJ that reads: "Chuck Norris isn't unbeatable. He just hasn't met Bruce Campbell yet." *g*

LOL that's perfect!
Oops. I'll say it's a common theme. It's the theme of my Carina Christmas story. ;-P
I'll have to check those out.
Yes, there will eventually be a sequel to Fair Game. Originally planned for next year but now I'm dithering over it -- the idea of getting the official proposal written -- first three chapters, etc -- before the end of the year is just exhausting right now. I don't think it's in me.

I'll definitely do it, just not sure I can get the proposal in time for next year. Never fear. There will be a second book.*g*

I think it was watching Sherlock on PBS that got me in the mood for this, but whatever it was, I'm grateful, b/c this is goo-od! I'm really enjoying Christopher's self-deprecating voice. Adrien English's voice is self-deprecating too, but in an entirely different way. I can't quite put my finger on how yet, but it's fascinating.

I cannot agree more; I'm on no.4 now and I soo wish the series wouldn't end; no.5 will be finished by tomorrow and the extras r too short; now the fingers r crossed for the brand new one :D

Now there's an image! *g*
ETA: BTW, Bella, I recently discovered the PsyCop series too. :-)

Isn't it awesome! Now I wonder why did I keep avoiding the series all this time. I mean a cop and a psychic-it's my fav combo :P :D

Oh, I'm glad! Even if it does interfere a bit with your own work. *g* I've had readers say they drank more wine reading that book than they did in a regular month! Heh.

It's very entertaining, isn't it? A very fun vibe.

I've made this commitment to read one ebook a week (fingers crossed), so last week was
Astrid Amara's HALF PASS. It's not actually out yet, it releases from Samhain next year. Anyway, it's an equestrian-themed mystery romance. The mystery is probably the weakest element. The romance and the world-building -- the main story -- is just great. She does such a terrific job describing the stable and the riding world. She gives you a glimpse of both the glamour and the horse shit (literally), and her characters -- including the horses -- are really well done. She's captured it wonderfully. There were so many parts I was smiling or laughing at.
She's got a solid romantic dynamic -- closeted Brazilian dressage trainer and the struggling, down-to-earth and openly out owner of the stable. Something a little more original than we usually see.
One thing Amara really conveyed -- and I haven't seen almost anyone other than Dick Francis get this across so effectively -- is how scary and dangerous horses are even when you love them dearly. They're big and they're heavy and they're sometimes unpredictable, and you can be badly hurt by them.
Anyway, I enjoyed this one very much! Keep an eye out for it.

I just finished both of those and loved them. The head-hopping in the first book was a bit much to take at first, but I got so into..."
I agree ; I read them months ago yet I can't forget their chemistry, Ty and Zane r awesome and very different types of characters; I was waiting forever for Fish and Chips. Now that Abigail Roux has confirmed it's coming dec 6th I just can't wait :D

I have to admit the first one did little for me. I'd had it recced a million times, and in theory it's everything I should like, but...it just didn't click. The switching POV was a lot of it, probably. But the characters didn't grab me either. (Which is why I sympathize with readers who don't get the whole Adrien thing -- sometimes, nothing personal, the stories and characters aren't your kind of thing.)
I do want to try the next book or two to see if the series grows on me, because that sometimes happens -- and there's got to be a reason people keep telling me I'm going to love these books.

Astrid definitely knows her horses -- but she's a horse nut. In fact, I think her main incentive to write is to feed her habit. Literally. (I'm kidding -- she's too good a writer for that to be true -- but she *is* a horse nut. But I consider that a compliment.)
I don't know that I'd have the nerve to get back in the saddle after breaking my back.

OMG don't remind me ;P I'm dying to hear those words <3
Lets hope this time they'll forget all those ego clashes and confess their REAL feelings for gods sake :P

I'm sorry I don't get it; Adrien is an awesome book with more awesome characters ; what's there not to get honestly O_o ??

I'll watch out for it, I used to ride a lot when I was younger and richer! There is something about the horse world that is just special.
Thanks for the heads up.

So...it's not books, but everyone's favorite Halloween movie(s)? Name the top three (any order is okay).
1. Dawn of the Dead (remake, tho the Romero original...Well, Romero is King of All Zombie Awesomeness, let's just say that)
2. Resident Evil (#1 and #3...#2 was okay, but...)
3. Cloverfield
None of these were particularly frightening to me, but I adored the monsters. And I liked looking for the easter eggs in Cloverfield.
If you want what scared me? Final Destination. My daughter and I escorted each other to the fricking bathroom after that one because neither one of us wanted to go anywhere by ourselves, LOL.[/wuss]
