Now that its official and The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn will be split up into two films, fans can start wondering about how director Bill Condon plans to adapt the series' most controversial book. One of the key people in charge of figuring out what to show on screen is screenwriter Melissa Rosenberg, who recently chatted up The LA Times and spoke about how, exactly, they were approaching the book's most talked-about moments.

Spoilers to follow … as if there are still fans out there who haven't read the book …

The scenes in question revolve around Bella losing her virginity and then giving birth in a very bloody (and not all too cinematic) way. When Rosenberg was asked about these scenes, she said, "On the fan site, on Facebook, all the comments are 'It has to be R rated! You have to show the childbirth! Gore and guts and sex!' For me it's actually more interesting to not see it. You know, you can do childbirth without seeing childbirth ... it doesn't mean it's any less evocative of an experience."

I completely agree with her, too. Name a film where you, the viewer, actually see the whole childbirth thing go down from a right-between-her-legs camera angle. Why would you even want to see that? I'm sure you can evoke more emotion in a scene like that if the camera stayed on Kristen Stewart's face the whole time, allowing the audience to experience the emotional rollercoaster that is childbirth, instead of actually watching the gory mess unfold.

As far as the whole Bella losing her virginity scene … well, I'm sure you've seen enough sex scenes in your lifetime to figure out the ways in which they can shoot it and still maintain a PG-13 rating. While I'm not crazy about the clichéd shot of two people lying in bed under the covers with their shirts off, it is the one shot that best describes what just took place from a visual standpoint.

What do you Twi-hards think? Do we really need to see these scenes play out on screen like they do in the book, or do you agree that there are tamer ways to approach them?

Kayla Duff I want to have the Esme's island scene, just nit full out. And I think the birthing scene is important but it doesn't need to be done from a right-there angle. *shudders*

Terri (clanmoran) | 286 comments I think if they shoot it JUST LIKE IT WAS DESCRIBED in the book---no actual sex scene needs to be shown. They have changed key points all through the other movies, so why not change these too---you know instead of them both naked in the water on Isle Esme---she can go out in a bathing suit, etc....things like that. As for the birth scene since its described from Jacob's point of view, and I got the impression he was looking and talking to Bella the whole time, we can just "hear" the ripping and tearing. Imagination is a GREAT THING, and we all have great imaginations, so we don't need to SEE IT ALL!!!

thae way it was described in Stephanies first post is like the exact way i thought they would and would have to show so if they do it that way i wont be dissappointed and it will just make it all the more easier to watch with, either my parent or a friends parent, without being uncomfortable the whole time and then my mom possably getting mad at me!! :o)

Jilian (jlayne94) | 18 comments There are some pieces in Breaking Dawn that absoultely HAVE to be in the movie. They can stop when Bella drops her towel BUT the camera can be at like her legs so we don't see anything inappropriate. The birth scene is also important but again nothing inappropriate. Others would be the imprinting between Nessie amd Jacob and if the fight scene(more like negotiation) isn't in the movie I'm gonna be majorly p.o.ed!!! Lets hope!!!! Ttyl :>

Kayla Duff In my opinion, the birthing scene, the Isle Esme scenes (the one we've been talking about and i think something about her getting sick or sleeping a lot is important), the first scene when she is a vampire as she wakes up, her first hunting, her finding out about jake and nessie (and he needs to actually be shown imprinting i think) and trying t protect her, then all the new vampires need to come and the fight scene at the end i neccessary. oooooh, and the wedding!!!!!!!!!!

Rizam Umer | 450 comments I really really dont think that the movies should be R-Rated...
I mean therez no point!!
Nothing in the book appeals the R-rating..
I just want everything....
and Kayla dont forget the scene when Edwards suggests Jacob to have pupps with Bella .. =P
I'm sooo damn looking forward to Breaking Dawn movies..

message 8: by Kayla (new)

Kayla Duff Oh, yeah.. Jake and Edward's heart-to-heart talk is completely necessary as well. In fact, that may be the one I'm looking forward to most of all...

message 9: by Daisy (new)

Daisy Oh yeah, me and my friend had a whole discussion on how they could keep the rated R scenes PG-13.

message 10: by Kayla (new)

Kayla Duff Yes, and they'd better or I am going to hit someone. Because if they make it rated R, I won't be allowed to see it until three years after it comes out.
GO PG-13!

message 11: by [deleted user] (new)

I dont think it needs to be R rated at all! the book is writen PG-13! its just the fact of taken writen words have to put in to ACTAUL ACTIONS that turns it in to an R rating. OK so like sorry if that made NO scence! it did in my head but i couldnt find a way to say it. :o)

lol that made me laugh so bad

I think the book's most "controversial" scenes need to be in the movie. It wouldn't make sense without them. I agree with Melissa Rosenberg, there are definitely ways of making R-rated scenes PG-13. Some of the best love scenes I've ever seen have been PG-13.

The birthing scene has to be there. They can dial down the gore that's in the book, but the scene itself has to be on-screen. It might be very effective to focus on Bella's face and the faces of Edward, Jacob and Rosalie. We can know what they're doing without actually getting too graphic.

In any case, I think it would be a big mistake if these scenes were off-screen or only implied.

I agree..I can do with out the sex...Bc in the book she does not really go into anything..But the birth part I think that needs to stay how it is in the book. That is a HUGE part of breaking dawn.I am not sure they should keep this movie PG13..Sorry but everyone who has read the books already knows how it turns out.WHY cut things out an change them that much?I mean in eclipse they didn't REALLY show how victoria died..IT was cool but I wish I could have seen a little more blood..Like in the book the way it was written.I know that people may not agree with me but I think that Bella giving birth should be the way it is in the book from Jake's side...People want to see what they have read
