Yuri Aoi (gabby_chan) | 11 comments Hi Josh and everyone,
I'm gabbychan, or MrsMalone_emmie sometimes, a Japanese living in Tokyo. I recently exchanged some messages with Josh over twitter and blog and finally found the right place to introduce myself.

As you can see, English is my second language, so it takes me quite longer than native speakers to read or write in English, but I hope some day I'll be able to gather up my courage and barge in the monthly book club discussion thread. ^^

I just finished reading "Cards on the table." Since I happen to have a friend who suffers from catatonic syndrome and heard of the fear of having seizure, the story did speak to me with reality. It was good to know that Tim admitted in the end that he'd been yearning for someone to cuddle him and love him.

Now, I have a question/request to Josh. For a learner of English, audio books are great for fun, easy reading/listening and also language learning. However, only one title of yours, Fair game, is released in audio, and to my huge regret, it's not available for customers in Asia.

Do you have any plan to turn any of your titles into an audio book from now on?

Thank you!

I've been encouraging him to do this also. That sucks that Fair Game isn't available where you are. Is it a publisher restriction?

**CHOKE**

Maybe you could just start by doing a ride along with your local PD. So much easier and safer than getting involved in a murder investigation. :-D

Hello Mrs. Malone. So nice to see you here.

Carina Press has an arrangement with Audible.com so those are the only titles considered for audio books. In addition to FG, His for the Holiday is also an audio book, and there's probably a decent chance that this year's Christmas anthology will also make it to audio.

I do like audio books a lot myself and one of these days I hope to check into what's involved and how expensive it would be to make some of these other titles audio.

I was reading about the territorial restrictions for audio over the weekend. Audio and ebooks, as a matter of fact. There was a suggestion that it's a deliberate attempt to slow global digitalization -- though I'm not really sure where audio ties in with that -- just that it can be all but impossible to get music/audio books in different countries.

LOL...Yeah the ride along is probably a better idea! You're the one that comes up with all those crazy hot cops, gets a girl all crazy :OP

This just increases pirating. I don't get the business sense in this.

I've always assumed (and read somewhere more than once) that it's a deliberate attempt to keep the American publishing market from making all the money. I think as a secondary reason, it's supposed to somehow keep a lid on piracy. LMAO

Lori K Josh, Richard Stevenson did his own audiobook for Death Vows. He actually did the voice work himself. I don't know how much authors communicate with each other but you could ask him for the details.

I know you don't want to do the voice work but some out of work actor? You are near LA after all.

Seems like another way to increase your profits with minor expense.

Careful, though. John Simpson did the same thing, and apparently not with good results.

Hiring an out of work actor sounds like a great idea though.

Different vendors slap different restrictions on their sites, Mrs. Malone. I'm trying to be conscious of overseas readers as I set some of these things up. There's a lot to consider!

message 318: by Yuri (new)

Yuri Aoi (gabby_chan) | 11 comments Some books are not in audible for customers in Asia, but can be obtained with CD like Shit My Dad Says. I wouldn't mind going so far as to buy CD or anything!Producing CD must be costly and time consuming, though.
BTW, I'm a moderator of a small GR community, m/m BL 大好き、and talked about you with another Japanese fan of yours. She said she was reading Man, Oh Man! Writing M/M Fiction for Kinks & Cash and rushed to an online bookstore to buy Dead Run yesterday ^^ (Mrs. Malone_emmie)

Lisa, I honestly don't know the answer. I rely on my computer's security program and our home network firewalls. I don't know that any of that is enough. I've just assumed it was.

Another little tidbit of info you might find somewhat useful regarding audio books is that often times schools for the blind have volunteers come in to record books for them. I don't know what these people do for a living, maybe they are actors or voice people, but it might be worth finding a school in your area and asking about it.

When I went to library school we took a tour of the local library that the school for the blind had, and watched a few people reading books. It really was kind of interesting.

As far as hot cops and ride-alongs go, I really have to put a link here to retired cop Lee Lofland's blog post for today: http://www.leelofland.com/wordpress/?...

It's the most hysterical read ever, with the best pictures to go along with it. Basically, it's patrol officers right out of the academy versus detectives and which one is ready for a fight, works out more often, and actually does the chasing down of bad guys. I had a good laugh earlier today with it, so I'll share the fun with you guys. Enjoy!

But they explain why in the FAQs:

// Why can't I pay via PayPal?
Due to recent actions taken by PayPal against purchasers of adult-oriented e-books, we can no longer offer PayPal as a payment option for Loose Id merchandise. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause. Please rest assured that all payment information sent to Loose Id is secure. For more information on the security of your personal information, we invite you to read our Privacy Policy. //

Emanuela ~plastic duck~ (manutwo) | 1768 comments We rant about it time and again :) I think this was the last time.

I hope they'll change their minds :)

That's a very old message, though! That message was up when I first started publishing with them 4 years ago. I think a lot of things have changed since then, Paypal included.

Emanuela ~plastic duck~ (manutwo) | 1768 comments JCP Books uses a payment method similar to paypal but it's hosted by google (I think). If LooseID doesn't want to use paypal, maybe that other method could work and a few more readers would be happy.

That's true. I think JCP did have some Paypal issues -- and risking losing your account isn't something to be taken lightly.

Cleon Lee | 2235 comments Artfire.com where I used to sell my handicraft has 3 alternative payment method: Paypal, Amazon, and Google Checkout. Amazon is strictly for US buyers, but I've used Google Checkout to pay for online RPG game before.

I wrote to LooseID marketing address about it. We'll see. If someone wants to write to them too about Google Checkout, maybe they'll think about it. If they sold their new-released books from other sites at the same date they sell it, people would have a choice, but this is really frustrating. I have a pre-paid credit card I use in this case, and I'm lucky my bank provides it with my account at no expense. I wonder if this affects their immediate sales :-/

Indie Reviews | 4 comments Hi Josh.

I've been lurking here for a few weeks, reading the discussion threads and getting a feel for your little corner of GR. Some very intresting and intelligent discussions about reading, writing and of course your books. I must admit that I do like the dynamic of this group.

I wasn't sure if this is the right spot to post for the first time, but I thought I'd introduce myself all the same.

Hi Indigene. Welcome.

Now that you mention it, maybe a little hello-and-introduce-yourself thread would be a good idea?

Either way, it's nice to meet you! Welcome.
