You would hope so. But I am sorry to report that I don't think I'm a whole heck of a lot wiser about my eating -- luckily for me, I just stopped loving sweets quite so much.

Sure we do, although if we listen to our new-found knowledge is something else entirely ;) There are a few things that do have a profound effect on the mind (coffeine, alcohol, e.g.), I'd think others are just metabolized and you find them then in the fat cells on your body (man do I hate if that happens) - or not ;)

This is such a brilliant article, thanks Antonella!! You always find the most interesting news stories.
...and I absolutely agree. Football does look much more interesting to me now. (At least if somebody can explain it to me. What the hell are all these people doing building man piles on the field? When I was living in Boston for a few months, I had a hard enough time understanding what all the fuss with the Sox was about, but football - huge mystery to me so far.)

Yes, that seems to always happen when I have similar plans. I now forbid myself from buying anything to that regard. I've never had weight problems, but it seems that every year it gets harder to lose the extra winter insulation.

No, it really is that good.

But I mean you have to be open to old movies. If you hate black and white films -- as a surprising number of people do -- then I don't think it will work for you. But it's such a classic! Everyone should at least see it just for cultural reference if nothing else.

Kinda like me and Nemo. :-D

Susinok | 5205 comments Several years ago I got the digitally remastered version of Casablanca with all of it's film graininess and white lines scrubbed out. It was like watching for the first time. That time I watched it I really paid attention to the cinematography, something I normally barely notice.

I don't think I've ever seen such a pristine version.

It's so beautifully shot, so beautifully written, such great acting...there's a reason it's universally regarded as a classic.

I actually love black and white movies. There was an old refurbished theater in the town where I grew up that showed black and white films, and I loved going. They even showed silent films and had someone performing on a pipe organ while it played... It was great. So, yes, I am Casablanca audience material. :-)

I love old movies. Touch of Evil, Casablanca, Rear Window, War of the Worlds, Day of the Triffids… (Though the last three aren't black and white.)

I saw it only because the children of a friend wanted to see it. I thought adults can get much more from the movies (all the hidden references...).

Ha. The thing is, 20-somethings don't grow out of YA. They're flocking to it! We always have adults looking for books in the teen room at the library, and it's not for their own kids either.

Also, at least here at this library, we're trying to make a distinction by calling the books "teen" and not "YA", because technically, YA is the 20-something crowd! At least by psychology standards I think. We are the Teen Room now, where we used to be the YA Room, and all of our new books are getting labeled "Teen" rather than "YA".
