RandomAnthony | 14536 comments There's an interesting article on NPR this morning about the phrases most associated with incriminating email...

http://www.npr.org/templates/story/st...

But beyond the "criminal" aspect of some email, I find the way people respond to electronic correspondence fascinating. For example, some people at work hate talking about curriculum via email (esp. if it's one of those long "reply all" threads) and someone actually set up a separate message board for political discussion because too many people were using the list serv to share materials that some found controversial. Personally, I didn't care, I can hit "delete" without difficulty. But others don't like sharing personal information via email, as they consider it too impersonal, etc.

What do you think is appropriate for electronic communication, and what isn't? Other comments?

Heidi (heidihooo) | 10825 comments You SHOULD NOT communicate by email:

your first "I love you" to someone... or your first "I can't love you."

Phil | 11837 comments If safety is a concern, then people are giving away much too much IRL (meat world) information in e-mail, online forums, etc.

Based on the communication in this forum, there are probably 20 or so of us who could easily be found & injured in some way (I don't mean physically).   In a friendly group like this, people tend to share more than is prudent. I continue to take the risk because I like the sense of community more than I fear your evil intent.

RandomAnthony | 14536 comments I use the "write nothing online that you wouldn't want your son to read when he's eighteen" guideline. So I'm not worried about anything I've posted here. Um, except some people would discover I'm way, way more immature than I may seem in public.

(Of course, I'm responding to a person who has Perry the Platypus as his avatar, so I'm not the only one.)

Rebecca White (rebecca_white) | 1027 comments I was seeing somebody who told me he was getting married by email (to somebody else, of course). You shouldn't do that.

Actually, I do have one. I just haven't written there in over 5 years... and I don't know if I can remember the web address. :) But it's out there somewhere...

I also used to have one on myspace. I eventually deleted my profile on there... along with ALL my blogs (which I fortunately saved on my laptop). I've posted a few of my faves as writing on GR. Only a few, though. I wrote ALOT back then. Gus read my blog back in the day when I had one. Not so much anymore...
