Raven (BlackBirdie2004) | 12 comments I like Tess Gerritsen, who writes mysteries, a couple I thought were really good novels, and the tv series Rizzoli and Isles is based on that. I also read Janet Evanovich, as her books are very humorous. Right Now i am reading the Anita Blake series and Linda Fairstein's newest Alexandra Cooper novel.

Brenda | 221 comments I love Tess Gerritsen, too. Have read quite a few, and have quite a few on my TBR list!! :)

message 53: by Alyssa (new)

Alyssa (alyssa_hesper) I love Janet Evanovich, her Stephanie Plum novels are a hoot! Although I must admit with this many books in the series, the stories are becoming a little redundent and been-there-done-that already.

message 54: by Raven (new)

Raven (BlackBirdie2004) | 12 comments @ Alyssa - I agree, ever since maybe number 10 the novels haven't been 'must' reads, but still entertaining! I keep hoping she will bring it out! What do you think of the movie? I'm not a big Katherine Heigl fan, but we'll see how it goes.

@ Brenda - what is TBR? My fave Tess Gerritsen novel is the historical romance one that takes place in the late 1800's I think. I was pleasently surprised with that one.

Sorry Raven, To Be Read!! ;)

message 57: by Alyssa (new)

Alyssa (alyssa_hesper) @Raven - At first it was hard for me to grasp the idea of Katherine Heigl as Stephanie but after seeing quite a few still shots, I think she'll do a good job. I don't like the Morelli & Ranger that were picked though. Maybe I will once I see the movie, but who knows when that will be since it has now officially been put on hold.

Sara ♥ (saranicole) | 1038 comments Oh wow! I didn't know they were making a Stephanie Plum movie! I'm not sure how I feel about any of the cast... But then again, I've only read the first 4 books. At that point, I was like, "Hmmm... This book was so great, I can't see this getting any better unless Stephanie and Morelli get married." So I asked my best friend if Stephanie and Joe get together, and she let me know about the impending love triangle.... GAG ME. So I stopped reading.

Can you imagine if that were the case in the In Death books? If we were on book 38/39 (or whatever the current count is), and Eve was still trying to decide between Roarke and... I dunno... Webster, or whoever? I'd rather shoot myself in the foot than read about a perpetual love triangle. Gag me (again)... Seriously. Pick a guy... any guy. (And when I say ANY guy, I mean Morelli, of course.)

Oh, and btw... My 8-month-old daughter has started crawling like CRAZY!!! It makes it REALLY difficult to read books, because I have to keep an eagle eye on her at all times! She loves to crawl straight toward our dogs' water bowls... oh boy... So I'm glad I have the In Death mp3 CDs! I'm on Strangers in Death! I love love love these books! They're totally addictive!

message 59: by Sharon (new)

Sharon Michael I can't think of any movie or TV movie/series based on books I've liked that I thought were as good as the books ... or better. Most of them have been ... IMHO ... awful.

I just can't see "In Death" as a TV series ... the interactions between the characters are too complex for anything TV actors to handle and the writers would dumb in down anyway.

And unfortunately it looks like they're going to do it to one of my favorite mystery series ... Craig Johnson's Wyoming mystery series with Sheriff Walt Longmeier has been cast ... and they've already taken 20 years off the lead ... and his Cheyenne Indian friend doesn't even look Indian.

I'm probably enough of a masochist that I'll watch it when it comes out ... at least once ... but I can't imagine thinking they've done a good job ... they haven't even cast the dog!

message 60: by Alyssa (last edited Apr 08, 2011 09:03AM) (new)

Alyssa (alyssa_hesper) I love the Stephanie Plum books but you're right, MAKE A CHOICE ALREADY! Although my choice would be Ranger, babe. That is my biggest complaine with the series - no progression. The 17th book is about to release and I feel like we are reading the same Stephanie as in book 1, no growth at all. Even the stories are starting to feel the same to me, just recycled with different names. The movie was originally supposed to release this summer, however, the studio pushed it back to Jan. 2012. I don't know about you, but I don't think that doesn't sounds like a studio confindent in their movie.

Sharon I also agree with you about book series being made into TV/Movie. I haven't met one yet that I like as well as the books. The powers that be always change to much about the series, some to the point that you don't even recognize it. For me, it's almost a slap in the face to the devoted fans of the books. The studio heads say "Hey, we know you love these books so we want to make a show/movie so we can make tons of $, but we're going to take our own creative license with it and change everything about it. Will you still watch?" For me the best example of this is True Blood. In order for me to even enjoy the series, which I do, I've had to accept that the TV show is a completely seperate enjoyment from the books. If start watching the show expecting to have a re-creation of the books, you will be sorely disappointed. Alan Ball has throughly butchered the books IMO.

message 61: by Raven (new)

Raven (BlackBirdie2004) | 12 comments I like Stephanie Plum books and honestly since about the fifth book we have known that Stephanie would never pick Ranger, he is mostly just for fantasy purposes. She and Ranger never really get together, the only love triangle is Steph and Morelli's constantly on and off again relationship when she goes back to her apartment and Rex. These books have a very different tone than the In Death series. Even though there is crime and mayhem, there is a light and funny tone to the books, fostered by the stereotypical Jersey crimes and people. Also, the books have been getting a little repetitive and seem to be at a stalemate. But you can read at least until book 10 and still get a good laugh. As for the movie, I'm not exactly happy about much of the casting, but it should provide for a slightly entertaining movie. I'm not expecting to love the movie. But, the tv shows made from my favorite books are pretty good. For example, Bones and True Blood!

At the end of book 4, Ranger is still a peripheral character, so... *shrugs* I feel very very happy having stopped there, though. It was great.

Vanessa (vanessamc) | 646 comments That's against Gibbs' rules. I don't know if that would be a good thing with two people who face such dangerous situations. Maybe it's a good rule.

Petra, I feel the same way about NCIS LA. I just keep wishing the woman agent on there was a little more tough. I know she's intelligent and has great fighting skills, but her personality seems a little blah. I watch it, mostly, for Hettie, played by Linda Hunt.

I don't watch any Law and Order anymore, I'm not really sure why.

message 71: by Vanessa (new)

Vanessa (vanessamc) | 646 comments Hey Elizabeth, I watched last week but didn't see the previews. This past week was an excellent show. The way you describe it, I can't wait. I wonder if it's the season finale. I know that one has to be coming up soon. They always end the season way too early for me.

Vanessa (vanessamc) | 646 comments My daughter just received her very expensive prom dress. It was handmade; she got it off an internet site. Little fairies must have made it because it is adorable. We came into a little inheritance money and so we let her indulge herself. She'll be turning 18 soon, and I don't know if I'm happy or sad; probably a little of both.

message 75: by Sara ♥ (new)

Sara ♥ (saranicole) | 1038 comments Yeah, she's not walking yet, but she pulls up and scoots along the coffee table. She crawls REALLY FAST these days, and tries to eat EVERYTHING! I'm really glad she loves her pacifier, because it's a great mouthguard!

message 76: by Alyssa (new)

Alyssa (alyssa_hesper) They do indeed grow up very fast...just yesterday mine were babies & now they're 18, 15 & 9. Time sure flies.

@Vanessa, you'll have to post a pic of your dtr in the dress or at least of the dress itself. I bet that it's beautiful ♥

There are a lot of causes of a baby crying all night, from getting their days and nights mixed up to teething to colic.
My suggestions is really watch his movements if he/she does see if that gives you a clue. Past that if your baby continues to cry all night long get your baby to a doctor. Like I said it could be colic That tends to make a baby cry alot. Also, and I hope this isn't the case, my friend had a baby that was impacted (constipated) he would still poop but not a lot. Doctors said told her she was spoiling the baby and ignored her. When they finally they xrayed him they had to eat their words. The doctors eating crow doesn't help mother or baby. Good luck!

Stephen Goldin (stephengoldin) | 43 comments For those of you who like feisty female characters, I'd like to suggest a book my wife and I wrote: Jade Darcy and the Affair of Honor (The Rehumanization of Jade Darcy, #1) by Stephen Goldin . My wife Mary and I are big fans of the ID books, and we see a lot of parallels that other ID fans might find interesting.

Like Eve, our heroine Jade Darcy is a strong woman, a peacekeeper (she's a mercenary, but between wars she works as a bouncer at an interspecies bar and grill, much like the Star Wars cantina). Like Eve, she has nightmares from an abusive past. And like Eve, she takes shit from no one.

If yuou think you might be interested, we're having a debut weekend special on the ebook edition at Smashwords. Just enter coupon code MJ27G when you buy it to get 50% off the normal list price. But hurry; the coupon expires 3/18.

Unfortunately, there's no analog of Roarke or Peabody in the book--but there are other characters you might enjoy.

Pleasant reading.
