Hi all you Outlander series fans, I'm new to the group, but I've got a question about something that happened way back in Outlander...does anyone remember at the beginning of the book when Claire and Frank are in Scotland and he comes back from a visit with Wakefield and he sees a "ghost"? Says that the man was dressed in full out highlander gear staring up at Claire who was brushing her hair. We have to assume that's Jamie right? But I want to know more about that. Any thoughts?

We have all speculated about that many times here. So there might be some anwers to you question on other posts. But yes, I think that it is Jamie.
Yes, that was Jamie. He has told Claire (in the much later book -- I don't really recall if it was in the BOSA or Echo) that he had the vision in his dream of her in the same setting in the "strange" lighting. He was asking Claire whether that was the "electric" light that Bree has explained to him once before.
LOL... the debate on this continues and has been very long... I think there is a whole thread on this topic - even though DG did say it was Jamie, we are not sure about the details and speculations abound!!!

Hi Amy,Great to have another Outlander 'freak' among us. That ghost thing is fascinating isn't it? I really gives me a shiver down my spine thinking Jamie was looking for her even before she realised he existed.

Hmm, hadn't thought about it that way before Sally! Makes that scene even more ominous!
Man, I am reading DOA, and I have already decided I need to reread the entire series so I can pick up on all these details I missed the first time!
According to a video of Gabaldon on her website she will address the "ghost" fully in the last book. She also said it would be the LAST topic in the book too...so it may be awhile before that answer comes around!

I cannot stand the idea of there not ever being another Jaime book.
Maybe she'll develop William's character even more in the next book, since she did so in Echo - and we may find ourselves moving with her into a new series about William? If time travel runs in the family, the possibilities are endless! He is so much like Jamie and Bree - I can see myself following his story, though it would be hard to touch Jamie and Claire.

Yes, I remember the episode in Echo, which William recalls there from his childhood, but I'm afraid to find all the main characters congenially connected - this Percy Beauchamp still lingers in the wings - would stretch the coincidences more than a bit too far. We'll find out eventually and after Echo - who can tell?
I don't think William can time travel. Bree can because she is related to Claire. Jamie can't time travel he can only "see things" but not actually travel, that is why Frank saw only his "ghost" in Scotland.
I need to find the thread about the ghost. I was thinking about that scene today and I got a shiver when I thought maybe it actually IS Jamie's ghost. He would be long dead by the 1940's, so he could be "haunting" Claire.
