George Bernstein (suspenseguy) | 97 comments The new (4th) Detective Al Warner suspense, WHITE DEATH, would be a great father's day gift. Free if you have Kindle unlimited. Coming soon in print.

Detective Al Warner is back to work, recovered from the brutal climax of his hunt for the serial killer, The Prom Dress Killer.
Ashton Kerry is furious his in-laws left him nothing in their will, but his wife’s massive trust fund provides all he can spend. Determined to have his own stash so he can ditch his family and be with his mistress, he enlists the Cuban mafia to ship cocaine via his company, packaged as brochures. Kerry is paid a nice percentage of their value. But in setting this up, the Cubans murder five of his employees, drowning them in a fake auto accident. Then Kerry’s ties to the Cubans become more complicated–and dangerous–than he ever expected.
Warner’s gut tells him the accidental drowning of five factory workers is highly suspicious, and his “gut” is seldom wrong. It’s one of two cases the “Hero of Miami” is zeroing in on. The other puzzler is the exploding rash of deadly ODs from fentanyl-laced heroin—White Death. The drug is so lethal, he suspects the fatalities may be intentional. Soon everything erupts into a series of stunning revelations and deadly confrontations, with Warner once again thrust into mortal danger.

Glenn Cheney (glenncheney) | 8 comments From "The Best Chronicles of Rubem Alves," who is a Brazilian writer you probably know. He really presents a different slice on life. I translated this book from the original Brazilian Portuguese.

"Sex in old age is, in fact, much different from sex in adolescence. Adolescents, in their normal state, are drugged. Don’t get me wrong! I’m not saying they are snorting cocaine. I’m saying that they are, all of a sudden, invaded by a volcano of hormones that they don’t know, uncontrollable demons that take possession of them, lodging with a certain preference in certain parts of the body which go into motion, painfully, independently of their own will. St. Augustine, in his book De Civitate Dei‬, had already observed this autonomy of the sexual organs, which moved without the permission of reason, creating very embarrassing situations, reason for which the Creator, pitying man’s shame, furnished an apron to hide his uncontrolled genitalia. It became hell. I don’t know about women. I know that, for men sexual desire in adolescence is a suffering. It doesn’t die down. The curious thing is that it breaks out gratuitously, without provocation by any necessity. The adolescent doesn’t need to see naked women, porno films or just a libidinous thought. Sexual desire in the adolescent is independent of any object. It is pure, crude, irrational desire. For anyone who doesn’t understand what I’m saying, let me take advantage of a comparison. Really, it seems like the desire to pee. The bladder swells, swells, begins to hurt, the pain grows and grows, becomes intolerable. There’s no way around it. The bladder must be emptied. And there’s that pleasure, that happiness… The act of peeing, when the bladder is full, really is comparable to the boner and the orgasm in adolescence. I even believe that the analysis Freud did on sexual pleasure takes the act of peeing as a model. The object of pleasure isn’t pleasure; it is being freed of pain, returning to equilibrium, to the Buddhistic experience of not desiring anything: Nirvana..."
