Ruby Emam (goodreadscomruby_emam) | 93 comments Jacketflap has featured a revolutionary song entitled "Samad" about The Little Black Fish, to commemorate Samad Beh-Rang's his memory on the anniversary of his execution.

The song talks about "The Little Black Fish" on his way to the sea, to fight for freedom, equality and justice.

Ronald Paxton | 599 comments Just received a new 5 star review for my novel, "Haven!"

"...After reading his existing novels, I am now a fan of Author Ronald Paxton. He weaves tales that captivate the reader right from the beginning. The reader can actually feel the character of the players in his novels without the author blatantly telling us who they are. Paxton is very adept at relaying a fascinating story. He has the ability to elicit "gasp" moments when the mystery is unraveled. Highly recommended...but start with Winter Songs, you won't be disappointed!"

Camels
Some Camels have one hump.
Some Camels have two.
Why nature has done this,
I haven’t a clue.
Perhaps it’s to help,
Guide them at night.
One humpers bear left,
Two humpers bear right?
Or could it just be,
Say for vanity’s sake,
One hump being common,
So some add a fake?
Or is it just simply,
The luck of the draw?
Two humps you’re a Mama,
One hump you’re a Pa!

Thanks a lot. I will translate it soon, the book and the lyrics being of revolutionary genre, finding the right words is the reason it is taking so long.

Steve Anderson | 63 comments The WWII thriller Under False Flags: A Novel appears in the February issue of the Historical Novels Review, published by the Historical Novel Society in print and online. Here's an excerpt:

"The author clearly brings forth the thoughts, fears, and hopes that run through a soldier’s mind. The dangers and horrors of being a soldier, a civilian living under occupation, or a resistance fighter are well-defined in this book. I liked how the GI narrative voice ... kept the realism alive."

Marja McGraw (marja1) | 569 comments I want to let you know that there’s a new Bogey Man book on the block. The title is, “How Now Purple Cow – A Bogey Man Mystery”, and it’s available in both ebook ($2.99) and paperback format at
http://tinyurl.com/m8s6uux .

What could purple cows and elderly spies possibly have to do with each other?

When young Mikey Cross discovers ceramic purple cows, a ring, and investigative notes left by a mystery writer popular in the 1950s, his parents’ and grandparents’ lives are turned upside down.

Pamela and Chris Cross become involved in vintage intrigue with trepidation and more than a little angst when they find out there’s an elderly assassin on the prowl and the situation isn’t quite as vintage as they thought.

The dead just may come back as the living when it’s least expected.

Thank you for your interest!

Marja
(Sorry, but the cover isn't up yet.)

Howard Loring (howardloringgoodreadscom) | 284 comments I just learned that one of the short stories from TALES of the ELASTIC LIMIT, the chapter where Thomas Jefferson debates Science vs Religion, will be posted in a new online quarterly issued Literary Magazine & also a review of the whole book.

The story, which resolves this apparent Paradox, will be in the Summer Edition on June 15th although I don't yet know when the review will be included, perhaps a later Edition.

I sent a file of the story & a file of the book & two days later the Editor informed me she'd read the story & then passed the book's file on to her SiFi person for a review.

Only a two day turnaround, not bad.

I don't know how many 'member readers' they have but you can navigate their site without joining & here's their link & mine:

Helena Schrader | 104 comments Super review of Leonidas of Sparta: A Boy of the Agoge Leonidas of Sparta A Boy of the Agoge (Leonidas Trilogy, #1) by Helena P. Schrader
went up on amazon.com this past week.
D. Hall writes:
I bought this book after reading the articles on Helena Shrader's website and I really loved it. What I especially appreciate about the works of Helena Shrader is her sensible approach to history. As with any historical research, since we have only limited evidences, it is natural for a historian to make extrapolations and assumptions in regards to the way of life, etc. in the ancient times. But, unlike so many other historians, Helena Schrader doesn't exclude basic human nature and basic logic of things when creating her version of Sparta's everyday life and its citizens.

What I mean, is that there are some basics of human nature that are true today and would have been true thousands of years ago, such as mothers love their children, families members care and support each other, boys and girls taking interest in each other starting at a certain age, etc... something that is very innate to most of people. So, to throw all of that away, as many other historians do, while constructing their visions of Spartan citizens (cold and uncaring robots) - just doesn't make any sense to me.

In Helena's vision of Sparta people remain people, they feel and think like people would.

There is also A LOT of vert good logic in Helena's reconstruction of what an Agoge would be like. So, unlike some other historical works supposing the Agoge amounted to simply beating up little boys or constantly molesting them or forcing them to live in the wilderness on their own for unreasonable periods of time, the Agoge of Helena Schrader actually makes sense. In her view of Agoge, you can really see how little boys are taken gradually, year by year, to a new level of knowledge of themselves and the world around them, as they become more intellectually developed and physically fit and overall competent.

One of my most favorite books is "Gates of Fire" by Steven Pressfield. The works by Helena Schrider not only did not disappoint me, I found them being an EXCELLENT companion to Gates of Fire, as they provide a colossal amount of little everyday details of Spartan life and societal organization, their laws and customs, and the historical events surrounding and leading to the Battle of Thermopile.

I highly recommend her works and looking forward reading her other books on Sparta.

"This delightful book combines a fun short story with with some very funny poems. The book is very inventive and while the author says it is for 9-12 year old kids (which it is) I would also have to say that younger kids would have a complete blast if a parent or grandparent would read it to them. The biggest problem with this book is trying to get some of the rhyming lines out of your head."

Ronald Paxton | 599 comments Advance praise for "Soul Man." Coming April 2015.

"Ronald Paxton has done a wonderful job with his contemporary who-done-it, "Soul Man." He masterfully pulls the reader from page to page with powerful characters and his classic narrative style. Paxton keeps his readers guessing at every turn. I liken him to a magician with his skill at misdirection, but he gives us a satisfying conclusion as he pulls it all together. A must read for all murder mystery aficionados."

K. (maiel) | 81 comments March 9, 2015 will see the rerelease of my second novel OP-DEC: Operation Deceit.

It's 1933 and the height of Boston's social season. Claire Healey overhears a terrible argument between her industrial-tycoon father and her socialite mother. Claire's father sends her mother away, declaring she is hysterical with fatigue. Displaced by this disastrous outcome, Claire is brought to New York by her spirited aunt, to be raised beyond the reach of the damaging turn of events.

Nine years later, Claire returns to her childhood home to face her past once more. The world has long since exploded in war. A mysterious stranger named Carsten Reiniger has infiltrated the scene, placing his commanding presence among the old familiar faces of Boston's elite. Intrigued by the newcomer, Claire struggles to piece together his identity and finds a dangerous connection to her troubling past.

When Claire's prying comes to light, she and her aunt are whisked away in the middle of the night to ensure their silence. Can Carsten Reiniger be trusted or is he implacably loyal to duty alone?

Rolando Calzada (rolandosueshusband) | 5 comments I'm traditionally published and while I patiently wait for the first 4000 books to roll off the printing press so that the publisher can commit to distribution, I'll share a snippet from Pieces of Ten...Pieces of Ten “Resurrection”

She began, “It was the anniversary of their first kiss. Two hands met and bodies embraced. As they came together and completed each other, it was as if they had just met for the first time. Soon they are thrust into the present, no longer as young but just as impetuous. The kisses are long and probing, each one an attempt to recapture some distant memory.

He touches her face; there are a few new wrinkles. She notices his hands haven’t been treated kindly over the years, but his firm touch is enough to set her skin ablaze.”

Serena insisted that those words were indicative of how she felt; that was the way she’d always felt. I sat there dumbfounded with an expression on my face that provided her with all the assurance she needed. I felt exactly the same way.

Serena told me that we’d been born as two distant points; but as sure as calm followed a storm, we’d eventually come together. It was as if we’d been drawn to each other like a moth to a flame. She lit ten candles: one white, one black, and eight more in different shades of gray. She said the black-and-white candles were the extremes. Black and white are boundaries, but in reality life is a complicated game of cat and mouse. The game is played in shades of gray. http://www.rolandofcalzada.com

Rolando Calzada (rolandosueshusband) | 5 comments While I continue to rise, in this convoluted arena of modern publishing, I remain grounded and thankful of my accomplishment. I've been considered an aberration after having broken into the realm of traditional publishing, as they say, without breaking a sweat. As to continue to prove that my success was not purely by luck, I'll offer a glimpse of my second novel, We Survive. Unfortunately, my publisher has deemed that you won't see this one on shelves till 2016. Just a tease...

Upon leaving Eden, I was inexplicably drawn. I swooped down, as if possessed and dismounted next to Clarissa; her stare was foreign yet hauntingly familiar. I’m still not sure if three years spent, idle and celibate fueled my lecherous mien or if my transformation had made me more beast than man. We looked into each other’s eyes and, it was as-if, we were of one mind. Aristotle wrote, “Love is composed of a single soul inhabiting two bodies.” I dare to say a soul divided knows, not love, only lust.

While the sun blossomed in the horizon, a sky draped in overlapping sheets, in shades of reddish hue, blessed our union. There was no pomp and ceremony like that, which pronounced Victoria’s union and mine; we were two wick that chance brought together and burned, bright with lust’s intensity.
