Sir Gerard, a mercenary in the service of the King of France, is as godless as he is fearless -- until he receives an unexpected summons to the bedside of a dying monk: his father. The encounter sets him on a journey to confront the man who stole his family's titles and lands. Set against the backdrop of the Albigensian crusades of the early 13th century, this is the story of a man's search for peace in a world gone mad.

In other news. Permuted Press just released an anthology I compiled titled "Outbreak: Visions of the Apocalypse." Contributors include Hugh Howey, Craig DiLouie, Rhiannon Frater, and MANY more. The best news is that all proceeds go to Direct Relief International (a top rated medical NGO that has helped to save millions of lives around the world). I am really proud to have been able to organize this effort and grateful to the authors that donated their work for such a worthy cause. See http://www.amazon.com/Outbreak-Vision...
Oh, and watch for my own new release, "Interludes in Hell," on Amazon later this week. :)

Secret Thoughts is Profound, Prophetic, and Fun!
I love this book! It's truly a unique work, a new approach to fiction from a master storyteller. Dr. Clark takes you where no reader has gone before, into the inner circles of modern, high-tech medicine. Secret Thoughts is an engaging whodunit murder mystery with a frightening look at what healthcare is becoming, as technolgy outpaces moral values. Don't make plans, because you'll find it hard to stop reading, and Secret Thoughts will keep you guessing from beginning to end. I was swept up in the narrative with the delightful set of sympathetic characters, as I journeyed with them, propelled by events beyond their control. It's medical intrigue turned struggle for survival, a desperate hunt for a killer who stays one step ahead by knowing everyone's Secret Thoughts. I'd recommend Secret Thoughts to anyone who likes thrillers or mysteries. A great read!

I'm also working on 4 other books at the moment, co-authoring, either with another author or with the person who has a story to tell, but are not writers.
The first of the 4 will be out mid-March. The other 3, who knows. We're working on them.
If you get a chance, pop on over to the website and check out what's available now. All but one are non-fiction/memoirs, with a fantasy thrown in to round it all out.

I’m also most delighted that it follows Paul Steadman’s excellent book, for we take a totally different approach yet we both use similar literary tools to achieve the same goal, good story telling & I think it will be a great compare & contrast opportunity for those who enjoy the Time Traveling genre.
I had three main aims with the book & I believe I achieved them: Simply told, compelling and very weird.
As in all of my Epic Fables, this one deals with the Elastic Limit, both a technical term inherent to the process but also a metaphor for the human imagination & given it’s all about Time, it’s presented in a unique fashion (as the table of contents shows), for the action is already well underway when you start reading, something that enhances the overall theme of the story.
Numerous literary tricks were used, so called ‘hooks’ & as they may not be obvious the affect is often mystifying at first & as Amy’s updates when reading demonstrated, questions will no doubt abound.
Yet the answers will become self-evident as the narrative flows, at least that was my intent, but if not, I’ll be happy to elucidate, just ask.
For now, I’ll just stick to the moderator’s description which states the book has ‘…cavemen, a forest monster, time travelers, space ships, love triangles, gods, a beast, warring factions, holy water, people that don't appear to age, and an old hag ... among other things. And the book definitely is epic in proportion…’
Hope everyone reads the newest edition, still a free download on Smashwords.com, which gives many downloadable venues from which to choose: https://www.smashwords.com/books/view...

It was voted as one of GoodReads top 10 'Most Interesting Novels of 2013' and was featured on the Science Fiction Spotlight radio show.
I hope you all like it.

***** WOW
I want to first start off by saying that I've used Amazon religiously for the last 5 years and have only written one other review ( and that was for my own father's book ). That being said, I was absolutely enthralled by this. A totally unexpected gem.
In the Kindle Edition, I was originally thrown off by the amount of spelling and grammatical mistakes in the prologue/introduction. I was disheartened, convinced this had not really been edited, and was already throwing in the towel thinking that I had wasted my money. After skipping to the first chapter, my dismay dissolved. The author's writing quickly blossomed into a coming of age tale chock full of rich history and pieced together with a fruitful imagination. The characters are so wonderfully different and developed, one can't help but be taken along for the ride. In short, I loved it!
I am currently in my second year of study for a Masters degree in Education and Literature. This book compliments my own studies of education, not just for its historical insight, but also for how well the author jives historical political issues with contemporary ones. We certainly can't avoid being human, and it is clear the same problems within Spartan society still exist today. There are undertones in this book for the search for that ideal government and society, and how the cycle and fight for perfection is constantly brought to its knees by corruption, greed, and the occasional blind-eye. We, the reader, watch Spartan societies' difficulties unfold through the perceptive eyes of Leonidas. He carefully observes what he sees in his own people and its policies, unsure and questioning at times as he learns from them and uses this information to shape his own identity and views.
I already purchased the second book in the Trilogy and can't wait. Even if it doesn't match up to the first, I still want to thank you, Helena, for making my week.

***** Enchanting
I read this book in less than 2 days and look forward to downloading the next two. The author gives a logical and realistic version of ancient Sparta that makes me feel as though I had been there myself.

5.0 out of 5 stars A riveting knuckle biting sci fi adventure, October 22, 2013
"Among the many authors I used to read growing up, I remember when I discovered the Big Three writers: Isaac Asimov, Robert Heinlein, and Arthur C. Clarke. They were science fiction writers known for expanding the genre in its early days. What attracted me most about those early writings was the wonder of space exploration, the excitement of discovery, the adventure in expanding what we knew of the universe in that time period, and of course the ability to create plausible possibilities with what we didn't know. The very definition of creativity. Since then the genre has exploded and branched off, creating numerous sub-genres than could be counted. Some of them spawned some terrific movies and television series. Some created series of books that were fun to read. Many current scientists today can point to those early reads as the catalyst for their careers in science.
Unfortunately some of the luster has rubbed off the science fiction (or sci fi) field. For me, the tarnish is due mostly to the loss of wonder, the lack of awe in new discoveries, the encroachment of horror, cynicism, disillusion, and dystopia. Somewhere along the way, I feel we have lost the fun. When I read Cyberspace by Jeff Horton, I felt some of the wonder and fun return. Yes, there is tension and mystery and a race against time. No good story plot can do without some conflict. Yes, there is an antagonist who thinks nothing of killing others to obtain his goal. But it does not need blood and gore to up the ante. Once the tension builds and the reader begins to suspect an inevitable disaster, the suspense makes it difficult to put the book down.
In addition to the main elements of the story, there's a smidgen of world politics, a touch of romance, some history, some alien presence, speculation for the future, and a glimpse into a loving family unit. The ingredients may sound a bit old-fashioned to some, but refreshingly works together as a breath of fresh air in comparison to the doom, gloom and crude of modern sci fi. Altogether, I found it a satisfying read and now look forward to reading other books by this author.

I'm a mystery writer, but something's been tugging at me for a long time, and that's this love story I've been longing to write. Well, for my 21st book, I finally did it, and The Seacrest was born! It just came out as an eBook and will be available in print and audio book soon. ;o) Here's a little bit about it if you'd like to see more:
They say it’s better to have loved and lost than never to have loved at all.
Finn McGraw disagrees.
He was just seventeen when he had a torrid summer affair with the girl who stole his heart—and then inexplicably turned on him. Finn may have moved on with his life, but he’s never forgotten her.
Now, ten years later, he’s got more than his lost love to worry about. A horrific accident turns his life upside down, resurrecting the ghosts of his long-dead family and taking the lives of the few people he has left.
Finn always believed his estranged brother was responsible for the fire that killed their family—but an unexpected inheritance with a mystery attached throws everything he knows into doubt.
And on top of that, the beguiling daughter of his wealthy employer has secrets of her own. But the closer he gets, the harder she pushes him away.
The Seacrest is a story of intrigue and betrayal, of secrets and second chances—and above all, of a love that never dies.

Imagine you're a young female private investigator, it's late at night and you're watching the motel room of an errant husband. The angry wife shows up and blows your cover, and the husband comes after you. Now imagine Humphrey Bogart coming to your rescue. The problem is, he’s been dead since 1957.

Here is the book blurb: Planning on self-publishing a book? Here’s how to do it.
The book describes the complete process necessary to self-published a book. Unlike those who maintain that self-publishing a book consists of simply uploading the cover and manuscript files, this book details all of the necessary preliminary tasks that have to be finished before uploading the files.
It’s a complete roadmap to get a book self-published. It’s organized by timeframes to break up the workload into manageable chunks.
I'm looking for early reviewers. If you're interested, DM me with an email addy.

A Widow's Crusade

Liz S reviewed A Widow's Crusade (Tales from the Languedoc)
A good tale of the Middle Ages October 29, 2013
I love modern medieval tales and this one was very enjoyable. The time period, during the Third Crusade, was very accurately portrayed and the research was thorough. I liked the way the author wove in other events that were happening at that time, The Children's Crusade and the Church's prosecution of so-called heretics in the South of France, that would result in the Albigensian Crusdade. Yet, it wasn't dry history: the author told a good story, with believable characters that had good back stories and came to life well. My only complaint is that the book was too short and our visit with these characters ends too soon. I look forward to more books by this author, set in the same time period. I really enjoy books by trained historians, who can also write well. Trained in medieval studies myself, I find it jarring to read a book set in this period that has not been well researched.

Luis Ojeda owes his life to the Pacifico Norte cartel. Literally. Now it’s time to pay.
Luis led escaping American Muslims out of the U.S. during the ten years following a 2019 terrorist attack on Chicago. He retired after nearly being killed by a border guard. But now in 2032, the Nortes give Luis a choice: pay back the fortune they spent saving his life, or take on a special job.
The job: Nora Khaled – FBI agent, wife, mother of two, and Muslim. She claims her husband will be exiled to one of the nation’s remote prison camps to rot with over 400,000 other Muslim Americans. Faced with her family’s destruction, she’s forced to turn to Luis – the kind of man she’s spent her career bringing to justice.
But when the FBI publicly accuses Nora of terrorism, Luis learns Nora’s real motive for heading south: she has proof that the nation’s recent history is based on a lie – a lie that reaches to the government’s highest levels.
Torn between self-preservation and the last shreds of his idealism, Luis guides Nora and her family toward refuge in civil war-wracked Mexico. The FBI, a dogged ICE agent, killer drones, bandits, and the fearsome Zeta cartel all plan to stop him. Success might just free Luis from the Nortes…but failure means disappearing into a black-site prison, or a gruesome death for them all.
In a day-after-tomorrow America where government has been downsized and outsourced into irrelevance, and none but the very wealthy few can afford hopes or dreams, Luis and Nora must learn to trust each other to ensure the survival of the truth – and of the people they love.
