Marie Lavender | 9 comments Hi. My newest release is Upon Your Return, a historical romance novel. Here is the blurb:

Fara Bellamont has been back in society for a year after leaving Cluny Abbey, where her uncle sent her long ago. When he chooses a suitor for her for marriage, she fears that she will be forced to marry a stranger and live a miserable life.

But, Fara finds herself thrust into an adventure of a lifetime when unforeseen circumstances cause her to place her trust in a strange man for protection. His intervention not only saves her, but puts her in an even more compromising position.

Grant Hill, a trading captain, is enchanted by the young heiress not only because of her beauty, but because she is hardly conventional. Underneath her ladylike exterior lies a tigress. Grant cannot help but offer his protection as she is in need and he is far from immune from her charms.

Fara just never bargained on the passion that she feels for Grant Hill. As events unfold, she must decide whether her desires and the dictates of her heart should trump the rules of society...

Howard Loring (howardloringgoodreadscom) | 284 comments I’m not sure if this post fits this thread but here’s a link to several YouTube recordings I’ve read, the Intro & Part One of my newest Time Traveling Epic Fable dealing with the elusive Elastic Limit, which you must, of course, exceed in order to traverse the 4th dimension.

I’ve just posted two more which complete Part One, the first 3 Chapters.

They deal with Julius Caesar & begin the day after the famous battle in Spain that won for him the 1st Roman Civil War in 45BC.

Caesar first travels to, and then has an audience with, the mysterious Oracle of Munda he encounters in Southern Iberia, after which his hectic life continues but who knows for the better?

By the by, my first Epic Fable of the Elastic Limit of Time is a free download on Smashwords, but here’s the Youtube link that I mentioned:

Helena Schrader | 104 comments I will be releasing the second of my "Tales of Chivalry" series in the fall and I'm looking for test readers.

Here's the short description:

Sir Gerard, a mercenary in the service of the French King, is as godless as he is fearless. In 1232 he is summoned to the bedside of a dying monk, his father. His father pleads with him to change his ways, but Sir Gerard is not receptive. Instead, he finds himself lured back to his birthplace – and a confrontation with the man who has assumed his family’s titles and occupied the castle of his birth. This novel set in the aftermath of the Albigensian crusade against the Cathers is the second in Schrader's Tales of Chivalry to be released.

If you are interested in reading the manuscript (roughly 100 pages) and providing feed-back and constructive criticism, please contact me at: hps_books@yahoo.com

Thanks!

Helena

George Bernstein (suspenseguy) | 97 comments My 2nd novel, A 3rd TIME TO DIE, is just released on Amazon. It will also be available in Kindle and in all book stores. For those who loved my 1st novel, TRAPPED, this should be right up your alley.

Here’s the pitch:

Two souls struggle to fulfill their destiny together. Twice, just as they discover the magic of their love, first, during a fox hunt in 17th Century southern England, and then again in 19th Century Philadelphia, their lives are snuffed out by brutal murder. Reborn for the third time, in the 21st Century, their love of jumping horses brings them together again…and their ancient killer may be still stalking them!

A Third Time to Die's is a Paranormal romantic Suspense, published by new Indie “participation” publisher (NOT a Vanity Press), GnD Publishers LLC, that did a great job for me. The novel is different from the glut of vampires, werewolves, angels and demons. Its theme is more in the vein of Nora Robert’s Midnight Bayou, which was also made into a Lifetime Original Movie, or the movie Dead Again.

Untreed Reads (untreedreads) | 36 comments Announcing the digital release of this classic work by American literary powerhouse Sol Stein. The Magician is now available worldwide, published by Untreed Reads.

The Magician by Sol Stein The Magician by Sol Stein

Over 2 million copies sold in print, and now available in digital format for the first time!

At their big prom, Ed Japhet scares the wits out of the attendees with his fantastic and dangerous feats of magic. Then when the young man and his girlfriend leave, they see four figures sitting inside his father's car, one with a chain around his fist. That's only the beginning of this story of a screwed-up justice system and a high-school student who decides to use his magic tricks to stop a tough gang of extortionists from bothering him and his girl.

The New York Times says, "I cannot recall a gripping novel of this type with greater pleasure."

The Library Journal declares, "A shark-like bite that won't be easily forgotten. Fast moving, incisive, angry, fine, and dramatic!"

First published in 1971, this literary thriller shows off the masterful storytelling skills of its legendary author, Sol Stein.

About Author Sol Stein:

Sol Stein edited and published some of the outstanding writers of the 20th century, including James Baldwin, David Frost, Jack Higgins, Elia Kazan, Dylan Thomas, Lionel Trilling, W. H. Auden, Jacques Barzun, and three heads of state. He is a prize-winning playwright produced on Broadway, an anthologized poet, the author of nine novels, plus nonfiction books, screenplays, and TV dramas. His novel The Magician sold over one million copies. His book Stein on Writing is now in trade paperback, and on tape, CD, and MP3. A more advanced writing book, How to Grow a Novel, has been selected by the Book-of-the-Month Club. Stein’s work has been translated into French, German, Italian, Norwegian, Swedish, Finish, Danish, Dutch, Greek, Japanese, and Russian.

Stein has lectured on creative writing at Columbia University, the University of Iowa, and the University of California at Irvine, which presented him with the Distinguished Instructor Award in 1993 for his courses on dialogue and advanced fiction writing. Columbia University has established an archive for more than 1600 books published by Stein and Day, and an archive of Stein’s own manuscripts and his editorial work on the manuscripts of successful authors. In 1999, a distinguished panel selected by the Modern Library chose two nonfiction books edited by Stein in the top half of “the 100 best nonfiction works of the century,” James Baldwin’s Notes of a Native Son and George Orwell’s Homage to Catalonia. Native Sons (8/2/04) contains the correspondence that produced Notes of a Native Son, as well as newly-discovered photographs and their two collaborations, "Dark Runner" and the television play Equal in Paris.

Stein's play "Napoleon" won the Dramatists Alliance Prize for "the best full-length play of 1953" and was performed both in New York and California. With Tennessee Williams, William Inge, and Robert Anderson, he was a founding member of the Playwrights Group at the Actors Studio.

How to Purchase The Magician:

The Magician is $5.99 from The Untreed Reads Store in Kindle, EPUB and PDF formats. Through June 30th, 2013, this title is 30% off.

Frontiers will be the second book in the Cybersp@ce Trilogy. Here's a little information about it...

"Scientists at Area 51 have finally been able to reverse-engineer alien technology recovered from Roswell, to build Earth's first interstellar craft. Hank Reynolds, the man chosen to test fly the new ship to Alpha Centauri, has the highest ever I.Q. ever recorded, which he will need to overcome the plots, people, and obstacles that stand in his way.

In Cybersp@ce, Nick Reynolds was the first human being to interface with a living, sentient, alien computer known as Ignis. In Frontiers, Nick's son Hank is destined to be the first human being to fly a human-built, prototype ship named Frontier to another star system, using the revolutionary quantum drive technology. Hank, the other members of the Frontier team, and the United States Government will have to overcome their own fears and paranoia, along with plots and assassination attempts, if they are to find a way to ensure Frontier's success. Only after Frontier is sabotaged, leaving Hank stranded and alone in the Alpha Centauri system, do they discover who is really behind the plots to steal the alien technology, and murder those closest to it."

Ken Consaul | 307 comments Today and Monday, the first four introductory chapters to The Platte River Waltz, introductory chapters are free for all on Amazon.

Set in a panorama of the American West as its portrait is first being painted, The Platte River Waltz is the initial stroke in the unfolding of Josh Bonner’s tale. In 1848, only seventeen years old, on the Oregon Trail and suddenly orphaned, Josh begins a journey through the unsettled frontier of a wild continent. Just making first acquaintance with manhood, he quickly finds his future linked to Elizabeth Hampton, a coquette from his old hometown. Together they resolve to venture into an uncertain and dangerous future. Accompanied by Jubilee, an escaped slave, Josh and Elizabeth join a wagon train of Missouri emigrants led by a voyageur scout and a town constable turned captain. The couple commences a lusty exploration of the lands they pass and of each other.

"What a wonderful and superbly written account of a journey West!
I was completely absorbed by the remarkable characters and sweeping landscapes- caught so brilliantly by the magnificent writing and plotting!
A winner!!!"

Carmel Audsley (httpwwwoursyoursandmineswebscom) | 10 comments Sex, drugs, violence, nudity, foul language - you won't find any of those things in 'Ours, Yours and Mines' and its sequel 'Far Across The Sea' which has just been released. Instead you will be taken into the lives of families in the miners' rows of Scotland in the mid-1800s, and experience Australia in the 1950s as the first in the family line leaves Scotland for a new life in the lucky country. Both family sagas, based on the author's ancestors, are getting good reviews from the most important critics of all - readers. Here is a recent review:
Congratulations! You've done it again. I just finished 'Far Across the Sea' about 0100 this morning. No way could I put it down before I'd finished!
Just like in the first book, I have felt almost a part of the McMurdo family, wrinkles, warts and all, although the wrinkles and warts are those of loveable real people. What shines through the last few chapters is your love of your father - I was right with him there at the end. You have managed to take a very sore recent sadness and make it the most satisfactory end to a book imaginable. A wee tear or two escaped!

P.J. Parker (pjparker) | 4 comments Rachel, a young American biographer researching the life of Mary Shelley in Montreux, Switzerland, is entangled and consumed by the escalating threads of her investigation. Shards of Shelley’s creation are exhumed from the past. Precious memories are hacked and sutured to the unthinkable. The unblemished flesh of the one she loves is stripped back to reveal what lies beneath—aspects of Frankenstein incised and ripped from the nineteenth century and transplanted into her own.

The archival records contained within the chiseled stone of Château de Chillon give some insight into a life long gone. It is, however, the contents of a document trunk that has remained unopened for generations that discloses what truly occurred in the idyllic Swiss Riviera village of Montreux to jolt the monster into existence. Personal letters and diaries detailing events, suppers, lectures, and conversations between Mary Shelley and her confidant, Doctor John Polidori, reveal a spiraling progression of horrors, dismembered cadavers, and uncertainties. Doctor Polidori assists the local gendarmerie in their investigation, unaware of how closely the knife will cut to Mary’s life and his own.

Rachel is drawn into the centuries-old conversations as she attempts to discern fact from fiction. But opening the trunk could not come at a more difficult time for Rachel. Her boyfriend has recently been killed in a motorbike accident and now, as she attempts to reconstruct her life, she is repeatedly confronted by a man of gigantic structure, of uncommon beauty, of intriguing origin.

Fire on the Water: A Companion to Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein interweaves Rachel’s search with the plot of Frankenstein and the horrific occurrences of the summer of 1816 when Mary Shelley dared to dip her quill into the ink of her darkest of waking dreams.

The truth is given life.
